I mean, it's pretty apparent that the Chinese government does manipulate the platform to control some political narratives. As do many other governments. Same goes for Twitter, Facebook, and basically every other social media platform.
The entire internet is basically a huge public-manipulation-through-misinformation nightmare right now. Very few people get their data from sources that aren't controlled by an algorithm that can be bought out or gamed in various ways. I don't think banning TikTok is a good or bad thing, but I do think it would be a bit naive to imagine that banning this one app is going to solve any of those problems.
