Yes. It’s illegal in the same way that it was illegal – meaning unconstitutional – for him to suspend enforcement of an anti-corruption law.

This administration is putting a lot of work into saving TikTok, and I'm not even 100% sure why. 😬

I think it’s pretty obvious. They’ve realized that owning social media and being able to control the algorithm is the single most effective way to influence the thinking and behavior of people - particularly the younger demographics - to do their bidding.
Having it in the hands of one American controlled company or individual gives Trump leverage to force them into promoting or censoring whatever he wants.

You think so? My guess is the gargantuan amount of goodwill from China Trump's recent moves have secured will smooth things out. There's no way Xi, out of sheer happiness, would deny anything to Trump now.
We made it through 4 years of Biden. A guy with severe senile behavior and dementia.
He's the same guy that didn't try to end the Ukraine War, let it happen to begin with, and didn't do anything to ease inflation. He's the same guy that continued to allow the country's national debt to uncontrollably rise and not offer a solution to fix it --- and also the same guy that contributed to our immigration/border crisis.
Trump is way more involved in everything, which is a better solution than the guy before him. America has been using an old, ready to fall off band aid well before this administration took over, and now people are upset because this administration finally ripped it off so the wound can heal.
And then Elon could be CEO of a 5th company? I’m sure Elon believes he has time for that
