That's odd - I don't recall Porsche or BMW following me around to make sure I used their recommended fuel. Try a better argument next time.
Oddly, if you bring your Porsche in for service for damage that Porsche determines is caused by preignition, you may want to revise. They won’t follow you, but you might come to them.

Lol. Whatever you say friend.

For? So its cool if I go in your house and take what I want and use all your stuff for free?
Enterprise pays $299 per year to be on the app store. It's not free. Basically Apple was very quick promote Tile for all the benefits to Apple users and then discarded them like trash once Apple launched a competing service and product.

Apple is privileged. What in the actual bonkers? As if they are gifted? They built their network. They own the network. That’s call building your product. I wonder how many believe they are privileged to own a phone. 😅😅. Stay well.
Basically the good old Embrace, Extend, Extinguish.

Many of you fall for the illusion of competition. There's no competition. It's predatory.

Tile has a non choice. It can keep its own network and stay off Find My. But Apple won't give Tile the keys to have their network be as robust as Find My. E.g., they could figure out a solution to extend the iPhone/BluetoothLE pings for Tile's network, but they wont.

So then Tile's forced off their network onto Find My. But once on Find My, Apple products are again privileged with special abilities.

I'm not arguing Tile on the merits. Maybe it's the best product on Earth, maybe it's the worst. I don't care. The point is they can't build the best product because of Apple's 3rd party restrictions.

And if your response is "if you don't like it, go build your own cell phone company!", that argument is reductionist and absurd.

I love Apple as much as the next, but many of you are Apple sycophants. They are behaving as a cartel.
When you tie your entire business model to the support of a big shark you’re playing a dangerous game from the start.

Maybe it is unfair, and to the victor belongs the spoils.

I agree with you that Apple has a huge advantage in any market they enter thanks to their ecosystem, and I would argue that Apple has earned the right to that. They fended off numerous competitors from blackberry to android to windows phone, and they painstakingly built up their install base from scratch.

Tile trackers don’t work any better or worse today than they did many years back. The only difference now is that Apple is able to offer a more polished and integrated experience made possible by its control over hardware and software. So Tile is now worse in comparison to the competition, even if it may have improved software or hardware-wise over time (I don’t know, and I really don’t care).

All this involves work, and countless hours of R&D, so why is Apple obligated to share their technology and their install base with other companies at no benefit to themselves?

Not to mention that airtags were apparently ready to go from as early as 2019, so if anything, I will point an accusing finger at Tile for delaying its launch by more than a year. They had a much inferior product, and are trying to prevent a superior offering from entering the market via the threat of legislation.

Maybe Tile deserves to fail.

You fall for the illusion of entitlement. Tile has already built "a best product". And you want to blame Apple for tile's inferior network? You want Apple to figure out a solution for tile? If tile fails because they don't have the network they need, then maybe they should do their own R&D and build their own/a better mesh protocol. That would be called innovation.

This might be a bit valid, but I don't want 3rd party App Stores. The ability to download apps off the web should just be restricted to iPad OS, that way iPad OS is more like macOS.

That is the scary thing about Apple. They will steal your idea and then put roadblocks in place so that your product will not work as good as theirs.

You see the same with Apple TV and Apple Music. Spotify and Netflix are at a disadvantage as they have to be 30% more expensive in order to compete against Apple their products on iOS, that Apple stole from them.

Apple opened the find my network...what more do you want to be fair?? For apple to make you a revolutionary product like iphone??
U1 chip? maybe you want the entire Apple company...
Stop crying...you HAD the TIME to bring something until now...you didnt..now you cry because Apple is coming with some useful device for the ecosystem ?
Jesus, no one is growing up these days ?! Samsung is crying, Tile is crying...Microsoft and Intel makes childish ads..
they spent the time to roll out a subscription plan to their hardware

Tile had the market for the longest time. Rather to kept innovating, like say create a UWB next gen tile. Instead, they roll out a subscription plan to their hardware. I'd say Tile deserves it. it comes down to evolve or perish. I'm speaking as someone who bought every tile I could when it was on sale. All my duffle bags, luggage and EDC items (wallet and keys) have a tile. Hell I even bought a handful for love ones. They are all going to the trash now. good riddance to last gen tech and dinosaur companies.

I don't know about whether Apple has an unfair competitive advantage or not. What I do know is I was an earlier adopter of Tiles and gave up on them after poor performance issues and how it interfered with my regular bluetooth operations. So for me, Tile competed against itself, and lost. I picked up some airtags and much prefer them. So I see why Tile is scared. Stop giving money to lawyers Tile, start investing in making a better product.
don't forget the subscription plan they rolled out. I hated that move so much

Tile has had years - since airtag was rumored - to develop a superior product - and compete. In the last two and a half years, it seems all they've done is cry about "unfair competition"...

Let's be honest, the tile app is trash. You have to subscribe in order to get a decent feature set.

Tile has produced different form factors, but their battery life is poor and the performance is unreliable. That's not to say airtag is perfect; it's not. They need to improve tracking performance and increase uwb range.

Why hasn't tile tried to produce a tracker with uwb support?

Because of limited device with U1 chip. Only iPhone 11 and 12. Not even the 2021 iPad Pro will have a u1. U tried using air with any other device that doesn’t have u1? No visual. All you do is beep the air tag. Most of the time the airtag is not even close to the spot on the map where it says it is. On top of short range of less than 50ft. In a crowded place and interference, its going to take u a good minute to find your item. A theif will more likely to find it before u can since there’s no visual indicator on how far u are from the airtag.

Basically the good old Embrace, Extend, Extinguish.
That analogy fails because Tile wasn't an open standard.

EEE is Microsoft's tactic against open standards. Like what they did in making a proprietary replacement for JNI to break Java, ActiveX controls in Internet Exploiter to break the web, and on and on.

This move is the "Sherlock gambit." You see someone making a useful extension to your platform, so you add a copy of it to the platform and they wither on the vine.

I tried to translate your wall of text into much easier to understand format:

1. Apple sell a lot of iPhones.
2. now they're rolling out a product similar to yours,
3. and they set its price tag at the same level as yours,
4. and it has much more and better features than yours,
5. and it has more compact and stylish design than yours,
6. and it requires no extra subscription fee, unlike yours.

Yeah I agree this is not competition. This is natural selection and survival of the fittest.

From all the negative comments from Tile users in this thread... it sounds it's Tile's own fault that they couldn't make a good product... not Apple's roadblocks... :p

Spotify and Netflix... disadvantaged?

The two largest streaming media companies in the world? That Apple's media ambitions will never catch up to?

They'll be fine.

And you cannot purchase a streaming subscription inside the Netflix app or the Spotify app anymore. So no... they don't have to charge 30% more for IAP because those options simply don't exist.

They already lost the fair treatment battle regardless though offering any one company a discount or special privilege over the next when they all pay the same service fee by contractual terms and agreement as their only legal breach claims epic had done.
They didn’t, but don’t let facts cloud your thoughts :)

If you’re going toss it. Send them to me. It’s still useful to me. Subscription for tile isn’t required so I don’t know what you’re taking about. The free version is pretty much same features as airtag. The subscription premium they offer more 3 year warranty, Smart alert, unlimited sharing, 30 days history, free batteries.

How u can say tile needs to innovate but airtags has subpar features. Bluetooth devices been around for over 5 years. Airtags rumored for release for 2 years. What kind of innovation did they do? They couldn’t even put a key hole. Airtag range is only 50ft while others are 200-400ft. Airtag sound decibel is in the 80s while others are over 120db. No option to share. No option to change ring tone. No option to change ring volume. Any non u1 device can only ring the airtag. There’s no kind visual indicator for distance. Atleast with tile all devices show a signal ring and words tell u if you’re getting closer or further. The Bluetooth on airtag isn’t close to accurate. I left my airtag in the car in the drive way to test out some features. On the maps it would sometimes tell me it’s in my neighbors house, across the street, or inside my house. Never at the right spot.

So, it’s rumored that the AirTags might have been packaged ready to go up to 2 years ago. What if they were providing Tile ample up front opportunity to clean Apple’s clocks? “Hey, Tile, we’re gonna be doing this thing soon. We’re not in a hurry, though, so if you want to bulk up your network and user base, go ahead. We’ll make it a nice spirited contest, eh?”

Tile:
“What? Sorry, I’ve still got a few customers and I’m trying my best to get them to quit so that I’ll have more to complain about in a few years… ok now back to raising the subscription price…”

People are presenting a false choice here. The choice shouldn’t be “use the find my network” vs “build your own network”. What Tile wants to do is to leverage the find my network but not actually be part of the find my app. If you work for software, you should know that it’s usually not a good idea for your customers to open someone else’s app.

No it’s about install base, compatibility and a huge head start in the form of years of research and development and billions of dollars. We are stuck with google and Apple for the long term.
You… DO realize that…

Blackberry,
Nokia,
WindowsCE,
Palm, AND others all had an enormous head start in the form of years of research and development and billions of dollars AND the support of ALL the major carriers all around the world. At that time, Apple’s only mobile devices anywhere close to the leaders of the industry were music players.

Sooooo, is that something that only happens once? Or, ONLY to companies named after 5 letter fruits when “A” is the first letter? I can’t foretell the future, but I still know that something better than the iPhone WILL come out in the future. I’d like to think that some other company that’s NOT Apple will be the one that does it… but, unfortunately, it appears that so many companies are so focused on where the puck IS (current iPhone) that they’ll be caught flat footed when Apple has skated to where the puck WILL be.
