Taylor Swift is #8 on this list. Nuff said.

Oh and had Cook not come out as a gay man would he top this list? Somehow I think not.

What a stupid overstatement. Fortune is a has-been magazine that even in its best years was filled with unsupported hype. I used to run IBM public relations and I knew them well.

CEO of gimmick company named worlds greatest leader. Thanks to Fortune for reaffirming by believe in humanity.

I was pessimistic at first, but I'm slowly starting to become a believer. I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say he's the world's greatest leader, but I do believe he is a darn good one. He doesn't need to have all the answers himself - he just needs to be able to get the best out of his people.

He's different from Jobs in many ways, but that's OK. We've always thought of Apple in a Jobs-centric way. Maybe its time to start to think different?

Well when you compare him to say Sony's CEO (especially when Sony is "broke") and hardly anyone in the news talks much about Dell anymore, and HP is what it is...which doesn't say much and Microsoft's previous leader was screwing up the company royally. Then there's Exxon Mobile who used to be the worlds most valuable company. Jobs wasn't even able to get Apple to top that.
With Tim Cook running the show Apple is now the most valuable company worldwide. I would say the title of "World's Greatest Leader" is pretty spot on.

While Tim's innovation might not be era-breaking like Steve's legacy, one thing Tim has that Steve didn't was the ability to be more "down to earth" with his employees...anyone remember the Ron Johnson-era? Thanks Steve ¬.¬

I agree. We get Fortune and although I am no financial planner, many of the articles/issues are just garbage and filled with hype...and you can see how Fortune plays favorites with interviews and such, also.

Maybe 20 years ago Fortune had more clout...but not in the past few years that I've seen their issues.

So Tim Cook > Barack Obama, David Cameron, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and all the other leaders?

I think 'World's Greatest Leader' is the wrong term here. Apple isn't a country.

hmmm

Elect Tim Cook as President of Earth?

Considering how things are atm, I'd rather have this:

"World's greatest leader", what? "World greatest CEO" would be better. (I don't know wether or not he is the world greatest CEO, but CEO would be better than leader).

Here's the problem with this...

"The results have been favorable, as Apple has grown to become the world's most valuable company"

This result is based on how much money Apple has made under Cook's stewardship. We shouldn't be driven by money/greed. How about the best CEO in business being the one who helps reduce poverty, famine, etc. Things that actually matter rather than the amount of cash a business is raking in.

Don't be so short sighted in thinking making as much cash as possible is the end goal.

However I do think Cook is doing a decent job, he's improving environmental issues by reducing Apple's footprint which is far better than most companies. Just wish we didn't view money as our gauge for how successful a person or business is, there are far more important things.
Why would you think he has the moral obligation to "help reduce poverty, famine, etc"?

Tim Cook understands what equality is more than most people in this planet. He doesn't hide the subject (Like MR does with it's PRSI forum). His idea is people are equal, there would be no black rights or gay rights or any other specialists rights movements as every minority group would be treated equally as everyone else.

Not many people are as willing at Tim Cook is to treat everyone equally. And I respect Tim Cook a lot for this.

Puh-lease. World's greatest leader my ______. He's been sitting at the CEO spot of a company at its peak for 2-3 years now. All he's done is churn out new versions of old products. Oh, but wait, the miracle Watch is coming in a few weeks.

Hmmm. Stock was $50.69 (adjusted for splits) the day he took over as CEO. It closed at $123.30 yesterday.

Quarterly earnings for the company the quarter he took over were $28.3 billion. Last quarter their earnings were $74.6 billion.

Seems he's raising the bar, from where I sit.

I guess you are automatically becoming the 'greatest leader' when your company becomes the biggest one in market caps.

Jimmy Fallon on the list ? Wow. Good for him, watch tonight show everyday.

I think Tim deserve it, he is a great leader. Apple is in safe hands for years to come.

I like what he's done in some areas but not in others.

Likey:
- Smaller iPad
- Larger iPhone
- Opening up iOS (albeit slowly)
- Settled lawsuits, and also he's not so trigger-happy on the suing front

Not so likey:
- Mac revisions slower than their predecessors
- Soldered RAM
- Removal of functionality just so they can be thinner
- Drop in level of quality control on software and hardware

I don't think Tim is personally responsible for the hardware and software revisions - that's not his area. Yes, the buck stops with him, but he also trust his team to make good decisions. That's typically the mantra of a good leader: surround yourself with talent and trust their decisions.

"Tim Cook Named 'World's Greatest Leader,' Reflects on Leading Post-Jobs Era at Apple"

And yet, there are people on this forum demanding his head on a platter.

Maybe not his head on a platter but it was just a year ago that many wanted to replace him since he was not SJ.

Oh, how the world turns.
