Tim Cook Named 'World's Greatest Leader,' Reflects on Leading Post-Jobs Era at Apple

He does good work. Definitely an admirer of his accomplishments. There will always be things that everyone does wrong, but he has a warm, positive style and has successfully steered the company for 4 years now. Good job.

I honestly think we're fresh out of good ones right now. Come to think of it I can't think of any in the past, either. Such is the made up thing by humans called "civilization."

This is the same BS that Time did naming Jobs the person of the decade or CEO. Whatever made up title they gave him.

What about Bill Gates, not only a fantastic CEO but a humanitarian that has refrained from using slander. Im sorry but Apple watch, iPhone 90, and iPad Helium arent going to progress us as humans nearly as much as eradicating diseases. How about we give praise where it is due. Name Bill Gates Worlds Greatest Leader. He has done leaps and bounds more for humanity than Tim Cook.

You must be forgetting about BlackBerry! Sorry but a personal device that holds no historical value is gimmicky. In 10 years there is a good chance Apple will be on the verge of collapsing again and no one will remember what they did. World Leaders are people that changed the world, not incremented their bank accounts. Best I can do is CEO of worlds richest company.

It's too bad Bill Gates can't win EVERY award. No one else should even be considered. Why hasn't BG ever been named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive? Is philanthropy not sexy enough?

Come on. Bill Gates has been given so many awards that he has to keep some of them in boxes in his garage.

Oh I agree completely. Dont give it to Gates. That was an example. But give it to someone that has changed the world and not their pocket book. That was my point. The only problem is that most of the new generation dont know who Gates is. In order to sell magazines they had to put someone up there that people can relate to. I just dont agree with it.
 
Probably been said before but darn I think it's worth repeating. One of the best decisions Steve made was picking Tim to succeed him

Oh please, everybody knows Picard was the better Captain - and the one most people prefer. I don't much care for what people think of Tim Cook/Steve Jobs, but I'll argue this one until the cows come home. ;)

- Mac revisions slower than their predecessors

- Removal of functionality just so they can be thinner
- Drop in level of quality control on software and hardware

To be fair, other than the last point, this could easily have happened with Jobs as CEO, too.

And if the rumours are true about iOS 9 being a "snow leopard" type release, then everything will be right again, soon. :)

Blackberries were not gimmicks just like Horse & Buggy were not gimmicks.

I think you need to consult the dictionary on what a 'gimmick' is.

By your analysis, the original rotary-dial home phone was a gimmick, because it's not around anymore.

i see it without a doubt. his strength, resolve, and leadership amazes me. i still feel like he should have been quite a few notches down on anyone's list of 'numero uno in the world.' people mentioning bill gates are closer to identifying the crux of global leadership than fortune magazine, evidently.

also, i just jumped in on this discussion, i have no idea what point you were on earlier

Tim has taken the ball & run far higher thanks to his ability to be an empathetic leader, treat everybody fairly & not be afraid to change when needed. Steve was completely incapable of that due to his swollen ego & inability to admit mistakes.

The stock price & company wide growth since Steve's passing help show this.

The stock has been going up for years before steve's death, nothing changed.
