Those who criticize Tim lack even the slightest insight as to what he has to deal with on a day to day basis.

Those who speak critically of the event are equally clueless. Charity functions like this happen with great frequency. At least Cook is open minded & generous enough to do what tightwad SJ wouldn't.

As far as pricing is concerned. The people in those circles not only can easily afford it, but usually write it off.

For once Apple via Cook, does something good for the community & the "naysayers" just can't stand it.

Tim is the most boring person I've yet had to listen to. Company is "wall street tanking" mostly because of his persona. I wouldn't want to talk to him even if I was paid to do it.

Do you know him in person ? Most high profile people act completely different than their public persona.

I would have liked to meet the Steve Jobs public persona but from what I hear, the real Steve Jobs was not someone you would want to spend time with.

I'm the Rory O'Neill bidding, I saw the article here on macrumors and decided to bid.

Its not the VP of RIM although thats really funny...

Can you tell us why you bid $62,777 for a chat with Tim Cook? Not being sarcastic, I just really want to know.

Apple can afford to donate directly to the JFK center. With profits sinking fast, high profile charity donations could be a slimy PR strategy. I think Mr. Cook should focus on stopping the companies downturn, namely by resigning.

Well yeah charity is part of it but let's not deny that ego plays a part here with all parties involved. Lets face it if you really want to support charity you can do so without a public discourse. While charity is served this is also a publicity stunt.

But with the estimated value of $50k Tim gets a free 50k contribution and the purchaser gets a contribution of whatever it goes over 50k. I suppose Tim could have just given $250k (or whatever this will ultimately go for), but this process is a lot more publicity for the charity.

Just a suggestion...judge a behavior on it's own merits...not the presumed motives.

If the behavior is laudable...then good, irrespective of the motive.

Nice thing to do.

The only sad thing about it is that Tim wont reveal or say anything that he hasn't already told in public. Not even 1 on 1.

I was at an charity auction last night and the right to a private dinner cooked by Eric Ripert at your home went for $34,000. And folks were commenting that that was less than they thought it would go for. Some folks have tons of money and getting some neat experience and doing good by a charity at the same time is a great combination.

This looks like yet another instance of java causing potential security problems for Apple. :p

No, seriously, great thing to be doing.

Just some perspective: Estimated Value 50,000.

so. They estimate 1 hour of his time is to be worth 50,000.
1 day would be worth 375,000. (based on a 7.5 hour working day)
1 week would be worth 1,875,000 (based on a 5 day working week)
1 Year would be worth 97,500,000 (based on a 52 week year).

Compared to the Minimum wage of say, 10.50 (ontario)
1 day would be worth 78.75.
1 week would be worth 393.75.
1 year would be 20,475.00

It would take you approximately 4,760 years to be worth what Tim's "perceived" worth is for 1 year.

I know this is for charity... But really. this valuation is just something that blows my mind'

I'm an Apple fan.. Thought it would be fun & always wanted to visit the mothership.

Well, since you have that much to burn, if you end up not winning, mind throwing a few grand my way? I'll show you my mothership of student loans! ;)

I dunno, but maybe less people will donate to charities in general when there are flashy media stunts like this.
