I don't think Apple should name their campus after SJ. Jobs hated looking to the past. He didn't like talking about how the Apple 2 was the bread and butter of the company. He got rid of the Apple museum. He got rid of PowerPC because he wanted to make the best products looking forward. He wanted to look forward and he would want the new campus to look forward.

He didn't hate looking to the past - he hated resting on laurels.

He created the Apple University so that lessons that were painfully learned by one leader at Apple could be passed on to others without repeating mistakes.

I don't think he would mind if Apple paid respect to him by naming Campus 2 after him - Apple employees wouldn't see the name and think "Hey, what I do now isn't too important - this company has already done enough good.". If anything, I think it would push them to work harder, to live up to the expectations of someone who is working in a building named after him.

"And we don’t go into very many categories..."

Now that's funny...

The iPod and server portions of the company are all but gone.

They're in personal computers, tablets, phones, smart watches, and home entertainment/automation. When you can list everything you do on a single hand, I'd agree you can say that you're not going into very many categories.

They'll probably phase something out from that list if/when they introduce a car.

As far as the naming of the new campus is concerned, I'd say that building is definitely an 'Infinite Loop', Steve's hand-picked name for the old campus.
The campus was built and named Infinite Loop in 1993. That's before Steve Jobs returned to Apple.

Dear Tim,

I am overjoyed that you're focusing on customer satisfaction. Does this mean you'll refund me for the costs of the replacement power adaptors for my kid's MacBook, since the cable strain relief is clearly inadequate? I did write you a letter to ask about this, but neither your nor your team responded. Also, it be nice on my 27" iMac to have Finder windows display full file names without user intervention. The old system of truncating file names to a certain length dates back to the 1980's and the small screen of the MacPlus...

Thanx, bye

Music, they were/are possibly working on a TV, they are working on something to do with a car, creating TV content, VR... Just some things I would include off the top of my head.

I'm sick of Cook saying "We don't want to be first, we want to be best." I LOVED the 17" MBP. I loved the risk and attempt to make something great that nobody else made. I loved the backlit keyboard that nobody had. I could use dozens of more examples in the SJ days. Tim, it's okay to risk and go for something nobody has done and be the best at the same time.

Well there are some things that came first for Apple: A7 chip, first 64bit mobile phone chip. 3D/Force touch, cylinder Mac Pro, Apple Pay... just to name a few

Tim, please focus on MacOS and iOS. Software and hardware. Be careful spreading Apple all over the place.

Jesus Christ... haven't you lot got the memo that Apple is NOT two people working out of a garage anymore??!

Here's your same comment, rooted this time in REALITY:
"Tim, please take the hundreds of people you've newly hired with automotive experience & let them take the reins on squashing software bugs."
Sounds pretty silly, right??

Apple has only one A team, and it is too small to handle all the bugs being found.

"Cook said that he and Apple attempt to ignore such chatter and focus on the tenets of customer satisfaction and product quality, believing that "over time," he's sure "that everything else will catch up."

That's what we refer to as the name of a big river in Egypt.

Am I the only one who reads this as, he doesn't want to lay out any plans on what they're doing and not that they aren't doing a car? Here's the actual question from the article and response

Why not take this opportunity to say, “You know what? It’s basically all there, and this is why we’re doing it”?

Yeah, I’m probably not going to do that. The great thing about being here is we’re curious people. We explore technologies, and we explore products. And we’re always thinking about ways that Apple can make great products that people love, that help them in some way. And we don’t go into very many categories, as you know. We edit very much. We talk about a lot of things and do fewer. We debate many things and do a lot fewer.

That's surely a way of honoring him in the new campus, without plastering his name all over the building.

Nope.
You're wrong.
Infinite Loop is the name of the STREET that Apple 1 Campus is on... NOT the name of the campus itself.
See, that makes sense, as "Loop" is a street name (like lane or boulevard)... NOT a building title. Sooooo... if you hear someone say "I work at the Infinite Loop campus", they are referring to the LOCATION (like saying "I work at the downtown office").
That idea of yours... I find unimaginative, uninspired, boring, silly, bland, & honestly- struggle to see how it it even remotely "honors" a man that was the opposite.

Google did the right thing by spinning out into Alphabet. I think Apple would be smart to do something similar. There's just too much out there that they could do and wouldn't make sense under the Apple umbrella. There are certainly things that wouldn't fit the brand – especially the car. I'd much rather buy a car made by some new company, knowing they were part of Apple rather than an actual Apple Car. This would afford them multiple CEOs so each one could focus more on the things they love. It might also allow more experimentation if the teams are comprised of different people with different motivations and design sensibilities.

I stand corrected. Thought I'd read that somewhere around the time of his passing, but apparently that was inaccurate info. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Ok.... and??????!

Assuming that is 100% true... does that make a comment on the topic of an APPLE CAR siderailing to this completely seperate topic somehow appropriate??
No. No it does not.
It's simple.
There's an "iOS discussions" section of this forum. Go post your opinion there & it will be on topic. Responses to people working on an Apple Car, that say "they should be coding iOS bugs instead!" Are nonsensical... and read like: "my dentist should patch the leak in my roof, before he concerns himself with my root canal!". Get it???! That doesn't make sense.

You get worked up way to ****** much over your defense of Apple. Time to block, you are seriously annoying as hell and you need to grow the **** up.

I don't know WHAT you're talking about! They haven't announced ANYTHING! lol

Precisely. Whenever this rumored product is mentioned here, they refer to it not only with the definite article (the) but also proceeding a proper noun, strongly suggesting that not only is the project real, but they also know what it will be called. Neither of which is actually true.

Considering that Chevy is coming out with the Bolt next year, and Tesla will eventually release the Tesla 3 within the next 2 years (probably), Apple's car better be spectacular if it is an electric or revolutionary if it is some other type of fuel or multiple power car. Releasing something with about the same range and cost while being third or 4th to market isn't a formula for success.
I love how Apple has always been the first! /sarcasm
Being fourth or last does not make any difference, it never has, how you make it is more important than when you make it, ask Samsung, they should have learned a thing or two by now.....

And he made some mistakes along the way.

So in other words, "the shareholders have nothing to be excited about."

The stock will just keep falling, because Apple will continue to release nearly identical products year after year.

Tim: "Well we know it's been a whole year, but here's this new iPad with a new chip and that's it, there you go guys."
