Whether or not something is flattering is often subjective.
Sorry. I don't know anyone who wears arrogance well. It's why the word (objectively) is a pejorative.

He also pointed out the feature that pings people when they've been sitting for too long, which he sees in use on a daily basis at Apple.
Really, that's the best you've got? I need a $349 device to do that? My phone that's constantly with me can't give me the same reminder?
I suppose for people who need to ask their phone whether it's raining outside...
Heaven forbid anyone actually think...
Heaven forbid anyone actually think, gee, I've been sitting on my butt all day and it's numb, as are my legs. Also, my back is killing me. Without an Apple watch, people would never have the thought to move.
I disagree. IMO some people pull off being arrogant very well. Steve Jobs comes to mind, for imstance.
Why bother having a brain to utilize memory & function if you need all these electronic devices to do what your capable brain can do?All sensors and measurement devices are extraneous.
Why bother using a fever thermometer when you already know you feel hot? Why test blood-glucose levels when you just came to from a faint? Why bother wearing a watch when it'll get dark when it gets dark?
No he got away with it because he WAS a genius and contributed much to society. He was still an arrogant jerk and not much loved by people closest to him because of it by his own admission in his bio.
But no one here is a Jobs level anyway. So arrogance is not a good look for any of us.

It's disgusting the laziness of people these days and they wonder why they are helpless or go bonkers when they can't find their electronic device to assist them in EVERYDAY, REMIDEAL TASKS.
People are getting dumber by the year and exponentially increases yearly as these "life assist" devices take over their brain functions.
Last time it was checked by a survey, 80% of adults between 18-25 did NOT know the Social Security number!
All sensors and measurement devices are extraneous.

This is a just a variation on the noble savage concept. What humans will lose in memorizing trivial minutae, they will gain many times over in the breadth and depth of the ideas they will be able to analyze with the adjunct of machine intelligence. Of course, if you don't like it, you can move back to the woods and focus exclusively on your "EVERYDAY, REMIDEAL TASKS".

But expensive watches are attractive or convey status. The apple watch is ugly and heavy, and conveys brand participation--but not really status. Does it do more than tell time? It will tell you your pulse, it will tell you if you have a phonecall or text, and if you squint, you might able to use it for maps.

Yes, we have lost so much because we don't spend all that looking for food. Now, we can roam grocery stores for 10 minutes and be done with it : that's called progress ;-).
Indeed, we lose some... But gain others. Like hand writing. People are bemoaning we are losing this skill. Well, this skill has been used by humans for a very short time by a very small number of humans as whole. A few hundred years and maybe 10-20% of the planet. So, losing it doesn't mean we are returning to savagery (although my signature is so horrible that indeed It could have been done by an ape, just moving on to something else.
You quoted the wrong person - - bawbac wrote that.
Yes, that other post had the spelling error but I was replying to YOUR post about what that OTHER person should be doing with their time. Sorry I confused you, lol. Didn't think it was that hard to figure out that I was joking with you about them.
As for your assessment of 'ugly' that's subjective. I happen to think Apple have done an excellent job. In fact I think the use of the word ugly is simply misinformed, especially if you've not even seen a real one. For me, I think that a typical Breitling watch is too 'busy' as I like a cleaner look in my watch. But for me to call it 'ugly' just because I like less stuff on the face would be pretty unreasonable.
If you think about the MP3 industry, we weren't the first company to make an MP3 player, there were lots of companies in this. They weren't used very much. They were fundamentally hard to use the user interface was bad and you almost needed a PhD to use them. They're not memorable. I see the smart watch category very much like that. There are several things that are called smart watches, but I'm not sure you could name any. There hasn't been one that changed the way people live their lives. At Apple, that's our objective. We want to change the way you live your life.

If my use of the word "ugly" is subjective, then it can't be misinformed--as that implies an objective "informing" standard. I have not seen the watch in person--but the idea i can't draw conclusions from photos of the product is inane.
Woz is saying the exact... Same... Thing.

My mentality is classically fine.
