Apple Maps is a complete cluster-***** and a totally embarrassing episode for post Jobs Apple.

I upgraded to the iPhone 6 and have barely used if since opting for my work's Galaxy S3 simply due to the inaccuracies presented in Apple Maps.

The 2% of Barista fan boiz who are experiencing no issues I wish u well but the 98% who are, I feel sorry for you.

Steve would NEVER have allowed this.

waaaaahhhh. It's not that bad, stop crying. I actually think it's significantly better.

I'm with you on this one. I used Google Maps *extensively" and I much prefer Apple Maps. It's cleaner, faster and it offers turn-by-turn navigation that had been spot on every time I've used it.

I too have had nothing less then a great experience with the new Apple Maps, Turn By Turn has been dead on! I have seen error's on Google, one in particular is still incorrect after 2yrs. and just for fun I put the same address in Apple Maps and it was dead on! I agree that Google Maps is a little more polished. But think for a moment with an open minds, google has been refining it for some years now and it's still not perfect, Maps for a company will be a constant game of update & change as we are changing roads, buildings being put up and changed!
For example on Google Maps I've lived in my current house for going on 6 years, however the satellite View still shows my house & street prior to me buying it.
One thing that has always bothered me about Google Maps is an exclusive area where a civic Arts Plaza was built about 10 years or more and up until recently when I checked it shows it. However there has been another development built next to it and still show an empty field but in reality it's a very a very high end strip for stores & restaurants. Apple maps has a very up to date satellite view as well as my neighbor hood. So when you ask for directions to this address, Google will take you to it i think but people not familiar with the area will think its leading them to a field. My point is they both have pros & cons and I'm sure Apple will fine tune their Maps. I'm sure Google will have a Maps App in the Apple Store and then we all can have both or at least a choice!

Apple will always get an all out critique assault at every launch to find the one week or small problem and all the anti Apple people come out in force along with the Media and ATTACK with vengeance!

As far a complaints about scratches on anodized aluminum is absolutely ludicrous, do you take your car back to dealer when the paint gets scratches and say what's this, this cars no good! This is stupidity, and just people wanting something for nothing. iPhone 4 & 4s it was the back glass cracked to easy, I never broke a glass or screen and my wife & 2 kids have iPhones, my daughter is 12 and only broke one back glass from 4 & 4s. I have yet to see any wear on my iPhone 5 or my daughters. My wife's and sons will be here soon & I'll see how they do!

I love my iPhone 5, I've love each and every one of them since the first iPhone and Maps has never been a deal breaker when there is still an App for everything!

Its funny how when a POI is wrong on Apple Maps, its also wrong on Google Maps, yet you don't hear anyone bitching about Google.

Let's face it, Apple is one of the top brands out there that's being looked at from every angle. So one slip up, and they get called out on it. Tim is doing very well handling the criticism.

However, in the letter I would've pointed out what's being done and how users can help make our Maps a better application. Then state you can search for other maps in our App Store.

Listing which maps are available is a big no-no.

And if Google is so 'perfect' as everyone claims, then why is my house located in the wrong spot. It's listed 5 houses away. Yet I submit a request each and every year and Google has done absolutely nothing to fix it. I even submitted paperwork from the township as further evidence of the errors.

Are Apple users really that blind? I mean, they lined up in queues outside Apple stores without even knowing how it performs; how its reviews are?

Geeze. Such iTards just spoil the whole brand. That is why I decided to buy a Nexus 7 for my sister instead of iPod Touch.

I think the best thing they could have done is just buy some Garmin technology or the whole company for that matter. Then make an Apple App called Directions which is basically a GPS set up. Then keep maps as it was. That's basically what they did anyway minus Google.
I will say though the turn by turn that TomTom provides is about as nice looking as I've ever seen. I've not had any issues with accuracy but those places that are messed up have to be sorted out!

I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED

The new Map App has been designed by the people in charge of SIRI !

I hope this was just a fluke... Seriously...

We can all hope.

But the facts are that the last two major iPhone upgrades each contained a major software product; SIRI and now Maps.

And both were not ready for prime time.

Apple has had a lot of problems with major software lately, and their old-line Mac Pro and iMac products have not been getting nearly as much attention lately.

The times, they are a-changing?

I for one like the new Apple maps; the navigation has been great for me.
The odd satellite images are humorous, the images near my home are poor at best. But these things will improve. I would like an online apple maps and a better way to report bugs though.

I agree, there are some bugs, but overall I have had a lot of positives from this NEW Apple Maps! About an easier method of reporting bugs, from my experience it is quite simple. Right in the Maps app, where you can select what type of map you want to see (Standard, Hybrid or Satellite), right above the "Print" button there is a "Report a Problem", you tap on that and there you have it! For me, I was quite impressed, living in Canada, reported an insignificant street and a incorrect U Turn I was being told to do with the maps app, the next day it had been corrected!

"The more our customers use our Maps the better it will get and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you."

Apple is driving itself more and more towards the massive consumers, quantity instead of quality. Steve Jobs worked the other way around.

Dear navigation neophytes,

I'm glad you are so happy with the new turn-by-turn driving directions in iOS 6. But you do realize that multiple articles have reported that Google was willing to allow the same capability using Google's map database, right?

If Apple had been willing to put its "thermonuclear war" against Google aside for the sake of its customers, we all could have had our cake and eaten it too!

Instead, we get mediocre turn-by-turn and abysmal everything else in iOS 6 Maps.

Apple is reinventing the wheel. Google already has a really really nice wheel. In fact, Google has the BEST wheel. Until iOS 6, the iPhone was all about the BEST user experience. Now, with iOS 6, users get mediocre (at best) and apologies.

Disappointing, to say the least.

Mark

Google was allowing spoken TBT navigation on iOS at what price?

For those that say the apple's map app is fine, simply have not used it in areas it doesn't work. I live in a very developed city and the GPS was jumping all over the place. It would not properly track my current location, and would take me to the wrong destination. It caused me to get lost several times which is a serious issue because I could have ended up in a dangerous part of the city.

That being said, I'm glad to see they are taking the responsibility. I believe they knew there were problems with it, but I don't think they realized to what extent. Millions of users were able to catch problems that their staff could not. Same reason there will always be bugs on a newly released software. Sometimes it is more or less than what they expected. I hope to see apple maps compete with googles. I really wan't to like it, but right now, for me, it is unusable.

Steve would have never allowed this.

But with the bad press, Apple will set a contract down on the desk of Google map employees, that has a whole bunch of 0's and comma's and then its off to the races.

They will get better, and I am will to bet that the maps surpass Google, eventually.

The new maps would have been fine, if I didn't need to use public transportation. But well, I learned to use embark within half a hour. I think everybody can do it in a short time, if I can. It is not a big deal to me now. I think a lot of people were just venting. I know eventually, apple maps will get better for sure. First, maps is really not that bad, at least not that bad in NYC. Second, Apple has enough money to improve it greatly.

Apart from some wrongly located shops, I don't have much problems with Apple Maps at my location (Singapore).

I just hope Maps improves fast.

I've said it on twitter and I'll say it again: I have had better experience with Apple's new Maps app on iOS 6 / iPhone 5 in the last week than any other time using a GPS prior.

I have had good luck with it, too.

Unfortunately, you won't really know ahead of time if you run into one of the errors, and if you do it could be really rather unfortunate.

Virginia, DC, Maryland, here, and it seems to be fine for me.

I don't know about everyone else here, but I for one am sick of the whole "Jobs wouldn't have let this happen" Steve did let something like this happen. Does anyone remember the iPhone 4? It was released with reception problems! The all-mighty Steve jobs allowed a phone to be released that didn't work properly as a phone!!! He also apologized, by releasing a bandaid solution bumper. Is the maps app as good as google, no, will it be... we don't know, but it is a damn good start. Tim/Apple has acknowledged the problem and is obviously working on it. I for one believe that is better customer support than what most consumer product companies offer. Would Steve have let this happen, we don't know. Why? Because he is long gone. Sorry.. that we know for sure.

People are afraid of change, which is obviously normal behaviour in general, but seriously misplaced when applied to the doings of a large multi-national in which they have no personal involvement.

It'll pass. Probably.

That's the thing - I happen to like the idea of apple slowly weaning itself off the influence of google maps. And I am willing to (possibly) inconvenience myself in the short run in the hope that Apple sorts out its maps quickly enough to give us a viable alternative.

I don't expect it to rival google maps anytime soon, but I do not rely on maps that heavily that I am prepared to settle for an inferior alternative that still works reasonably well. :)

So apple, you have my understanding and patience for a while. Don't squander it. :p

Looks like an opportunity to post my edited South Park pic...

sorry.jpg

I'm just being silly btw. I have nothing against the guy.

Maps is a disaster in NYC. It frequently messes up E. XXth St and W. XXth St in business listings. The same is true for north and south. And some roads which traverse boroughs have businesses listed in the wrong borough, and sometimes even New Jersey. It's a joke.

According to some people on here when you open Maps on Manhattan it should just open up a page saying:

"fugeddaboutit - E is east of park, W is west, building numbers go low to high from park in each direction, streets go low to high from the south, avenues low to high from the east, you got apple stores here here and here, it all gets a bit weird south of 14th, don't go north of 110th unless you look like you can handle yourself and you can't have any transit directions, have a nice day"

waaaaahhhh. It's not that bad, stop crying. I actually think it's significantly better.

Thats because you're deluded and don't live in anywhere of significance where street view and transit directions are a must. Nice try trollin' tho.

It's already being done actually.

I don't think Maps is that bad. I'm sure Google Maps wasn't as great as it is now in it's infant days.

Ahhh...the siren song of the Apple Apologist.

Listen...nobody gives a crap what Google maps was like when it was released. Only a myopic Apple fanboy would say, "well sure, it's missing massive amounts of information, the product is useless outside the US, and you can no longer simply plan trips using public transportation, but it's better now than the product you like was 5 years ago."
