Maybe thats a sign that you should move...jk, but it is kinda funny that it's in the wrong spot. Sorry man, hope it gets fixed in an update. In the meantime...any idea whats at the site overthere?

I started using the new maps application and found that my home is marked in the wrong location. I did not need to go further, back to Google maps.

Those who wanted voice navigation used free/paid apps. There is no evidence there was a huge outcry from users for this functionality. This was just another missing feature like NFC, removable storage, removable battery... (list goes on) people lived without.

In reality one cannot depend on navigation without local map store on the device. Loss of data connection when you desperately need direction is not a good thing. For same reason I have TomTom. I use Google Maps for search and use the address in TomTom.

It is disingenuous for Apple to say they wanted to bring voice navigation and 3D maps to iOS and loose integrated search functionality.

The volume of publicity regarding the abysmal Maps is drowning out what should glowing publicity about the fast, new, shiny iPhone 5!

No it's not. Plenty of iPhone 5 discussion and news stories about. Launch day was very well covered by the mass media, not just tech blogs, evening news talked about it, reviews were made.

What more is there to talk about though ? In the end, it's the 6th iPhone launch. We're kinda getting used to it by now, so people drop the topic faster.

And again, how are things like RunKeeper, the Tim Hortons locator, MLS realtors, DuProprio "edge" cases ? They're very popular apps...

These are all apps you run? On a regular basis? You can't find a coffee shop? Or go on a run? Or sell real estate? I think those apps are all just fodder for you to complain about.

Do you even own an iPhone? Running iOS6?

See, that's where you have a mistaken impression of me. I have better things to do than take part in issues I don't care about or don't impact my own life.

You have better things to do with your life, but you have 14 posts ITT and countless others on the same subject in other threads. Sure.

If you couldn't live your life without all of those apps, why on Earth did you upgrade on day one? Seriously, who does that?

Damage control for Apple by pissing off the user base even more than they might already be about an issue. It seems to be your life's work.

Damage control for what? I'm just a guy who's couldn't be happier to see Google Maps removed from my iPhone. No more, no less.

j) manual intervention is required to ensure POI data and address data matches map data - a fact of life that ANY skilled cartographer would understand
My god man! You're on to something, if only Apple had known and they would have hired a skilled cartographer to help them with their mapping applications, at this point they are using 2 interns and a worn out programmer for this project but if they had you to consult... Sure they don't have much money so they can't afford to bring on a big team but they can probably find it in the budget to hire a skilled cartographer

I will be alerting apple to this immediately and I'm sure the problem will be fixed within the week.

Why?

Tim sucks!

Why would you say that?
First off it makes you sound childish and some would say statements like that make you sound uneducated!

Tim Cook is doing just fine! He's not Steve Jobs and if you remember S.J told him to run the company the way he feels best, don't try to do what you think S.J would do! Run it how you think is best!
Steve Jobs can't be replaced but there is more to Apple then S.J and so many there have learned from the master and let's not forget the man Sir Jonathon Ive! He's still the greatest of design! If it wasn't Maps it would be the Dock Connector or the so called scratching that people would be complaining about!
Every Apple iPhone/iPad etc release people pick one weakness on it and run with it to Internet & Media with Bull ****! I still can't believe the jealousy people have as well as other company's for Apple!
Remember that Apple is the true American dream, 2 guys with an idea and some skills and brains and started a business in a garage! Every American should want to see this great American Company Apple continue to succeed instead of wanting to see them fail!:apple:
I'm still not sure why you would say Tim Cook sucks, Apple Stock has continued to climb since he's been there!:apple:

He is doing relatively bad. What if the first year(post SJ) was just a tribute to SJ and Tim's true colors are coming out now. IP5 is a sub par version iPhone SJ envisioned. Apart from ScuffGate and MapGate there are reports even they used a older model of vibration mechanism to cut cost.

One Steve is no longer with us and other Steve is moving to Australia.

May be Chinese can write off 1.3 Trillion sovereign debt if we give Apple to them. Better option that having them file Chapter 11 in few years. Don't say never going to happen. They came very close to that and SJ is not around this time.

Don't know if it's cost - but some people complained that the 4S was difficult to hear/feel when it vibrated (and it's true). The "old" vibration motor is also a lot smaller, so it might have been a size issue.

Yes. Now are you going to stop insulting me and start addressing the argument instead of dismissing opinions that are different from you and attacking posters ? I had a lengthy reply written, but I think it's useless with you. You're not here for discussion, that much is obvious. You want to throw venom on the discussion.

Interesting article (that may have already been pointed out) about that geolocation API that they used to find issue with Maps in iOS 6:

http://vore.cc/post/32503374905/old-maps-vs-new-maps

Apparently Google didn't fare as well as I'd have imagined. Seems like it's likely going to take a LONG time to get a complete map set for Apple as Google has been at this much longer and even they have issues.

EDIT: \/\/\/ Thanks for the link!

This is a reply to a piece written by another guy : http://www.mtonic.com/applemaps/

As discussed in the iOS 6 forum though, many of the findings in the vore.cc piece are just flat out wrong. Some searches he says "Google gets wrong" Google actually gets right. Then, even discounting those glaring mistakes, even he admits Google comes up on top.

So yes, it's been mentionned and it's being discussed already. Go to the proper thread instead of having everyone repeating the same stuff over and over again in here :

There was nothing wrong with the Stainless Steel case, in fact it offered resilience against scratches which plague the new iPhone5.
Any apology yet for this?

Maps? Apple make phones, when did they start making maps??

Have you ever heard of a calculator without a backspace button?? Apple make one, and hasn't been fixed yet in any ios version
no apology for this either, but maybe Apple's software engineers don't make the kind of mistakes that would require a backspace button and a start over from the beginning

iPhone has changed the way we live, but the honeymoon is over

Apple's core competency is in hardware. iOS provides eco-system for other developers to write software. There are millions of apps on iOS, only few are written by Apple.

There was an article by WSJ(Asia) about Sony,Panasonic and Toshiba loss to Samsung & LG in electronics market. Apparently hardware design is no longer a sought out skill set. Unless you have excellent software offerings to go with that. Sony has best TV hardware, but ignored the fact of connected TV until it is too late. Asus designs some of the best hardware. They are the pioneers in Netbook arena and designed some of the best android tablets including Transformer and Nexus 7. Bottom line is any one can design hardware and Chinese will make it. Quality depends on what the brand is ready to pay Chinese.

Disclaimer: I currently own only iOS mobile devices and only Android device was a Asus Transformer for three months and sold for a profit.

This thread is about Apple and the Maps issue. Tim Cook is not Steve Jobs and people have to accept that he is doing a very god job co-ordinating production and release of the new IP5. I have already commented on the Maps issue which is unfortunate for Apple and Tim Cook at this time. I hope that they have not lost the "Wow" and "Awesome" factors that made Apple unique and the envy of the Tech industry. But Tim(e) will tell!

What people fail to realise, is that there is a whole new industry out there and people on steroids working overtime to discredit anything out of Cupertino, which to some extent Apple has brought upon themselves with the almost senseless patent issues that have made Apple appear arrogant to many. Serving only to line the pockets of the lawyers but doing little to endear Apple to those who are not loyal fans, and the industry in general.

Such issues have diverted Apple's focus and caused many others to hone in on what they possible can, to highlight ANYTHING that might be perceived as a shortcoming.

Apple post SJ can not be the same - the only constant is change, and I hope that Apple's change will continue in an upwards direction, and not become shaky...

Scuffgate, Mapgate, ********!

So now Apple not only should make an indestructible phone because we know all other phones are? That's a ****ing joke, I'll bet your the type when your car gets scratched you take it in for warranty with the ignorant look on your face and say "I only rubbed against it with a sharp object" and expect it to be fixed under warranty! What the **** is it with you people, I'm sure you complained about the glass last year! I've had every iPhone model every yr. and in true Apple fashion their quality is far above anyone of the competitors! There's not even a close second! I never broke a back glass and my 11 yr old daughter only did it once and when I went to Apple with the intention to pay for it, they didn't charge me even though it was her falt! Same experience with on of my iPads, I dropped it & broke screen. Went to Apple knowing I would have to pay for it, the gentleman at the Genius Bar told me price $369, I told him to fix it and to my surprise he gave me a brand new iPad in the box not a refurb. and no charge! Not even a refurb. that's service and no company comes close to Apple! The difference is I was willing to pay for my accidents with my hardware!
As for iPhone 5, I've been puting it in & out of my pocket for week now with no wear or scratches. When some cool cases come out I'll get one because I also know they're not indestructible! What phone out there resists scratches or breakage any different? Btw why did they need to change Vibration motor, was there something wrong with it, never heard any complaints regarding that. Keeping costs down in areas that need no improvement makes all the sense in the world to me. Especially when, god forbid Apple raise there price's!!!
Think for a minute the price points have remained the same for every iPhone, that's a hard task for any company, to try & keep price points the same for this long when you have investors to keep happy and customers!!!
I'm sure the people who said they opened there phones with flaws will get another one with out any problem! One of my new iPhone's had a bad SIM card, OMG Apple dropped the ball on me, they didn't check the SIM, Oh ya that's AT&T. But I'm sure you would think Apple & Tim Cook should have known about this or is it there falt?
