I am getting a bit ambivalent with Netflix honestly. Its catalogue in Singapore is actually pretty pathetic, and a lot of the original content just isn’t resonating with me.
This exactly is the reason. Change Netflix to Apple add the crappy über priced hardware with it and you’ll understand to avoid the Apple eco trap.

Apple is already making iTunes available on smart TVs. I suspect that when their video streaming service is announced, the tv app equipment will also be made available on android, similar to Apple Music.

I don’t think I am being trapped, for the simple reason that there isn’t another ecosystem which offers the same integrated experience that Apple does. I happily and willingly embrace this walled garden.

There are just some things that only the devil can offer.

We all have choices. Apple aren’t forcing anyone to subscribe to their service. I would imagine for what you get it will be priced competitively. Apple Music for example is priced in line with other streaming services. However at the end of the day if people don’t see value in it they can choose to subscribe elsewhere.
Choices have never been better these days. I’m slowly transferring to more open, better choices. The first one was getting rid of my AppleTV since my newly bought LG oled does the same and better and has an more open approach. I don’t miss my AppleTV one bit.

I can replicate those same ‘integration’ with companies offering an open approach the devil is offering at a huge price. I’m the person who seeks value for money. In my opinion that has gone with Apple since 2012.

No one is going to offer an unlimited 5G data plan for cheap. I can't see Verizon, AT&T, etc offering an unlimited 5G plan that will be cheaper than cable. Sure, right now in some limited areas where they are testing, they are offering really cheap unlimited data plans, but once the network is up and running most areas, they will not be less than cable. Nothing is going to go down in price.
Don't confuse 5G with other mobile technologies, 5G is most likely going to be almost useless for cell phones for at least the next few years.

5G technology will be used best at static locations such as home internet. Verizon already stated their intention about going after cable companies with their 5G service.

The reason why it is only in a few selected location atm is because 5G is still in its infancy, and unlike other mobile technologies, 5G with have a very slow roll out due to its technological limitations, the same limitations that make it perfect for static locations.

Almost all new Smart TV's will have airplay 2 as part of them.

A cheaper ATV would be crippled and would likely only serve as a way to mirror your phone/Mac or stream content from them. Both of which can be done by Airplay 2.
That is my point, people are not going to want to AirPlay their content.

Oh goodness. No. I can’t tell if it’s because LG’s remote has to many buttons, or if it’s because the webOS is so frustratingly slow, but please no.
Webos is as fast as Appletv on my LG. Don’t know how old your tv is though.

What i really want Apple to make is its own Game IP's, without that the hidden potential of iOS Devices gaming capability would remain untapped. But First they should start from AppleTV, they should market it as a TV + Gaming Console with tons of great Gaming IP, their own as well as others. If they don't do that no Body needs your Devices, movie and show content is nobody's monopoly, no show can be compelling enough to move to a hardware platform but games can be. Thats the fundamental difference, i wonder if Apple's marketing team is eating Hay?

It will be interesting to see what happens with this, i wonder what will happen here in the U.K? will we even get the video streaming service? our TV is done a little different to that of the USA. We don't get the same TV channels for example, so i wonder if Apple will have or will need to strike a different deal for those of us in the U.K

Why is apple going into this business of media creation? how is this their core competency in any way?

I guess they're so rich now they dont have any fiscal control or focus.
Yes. It’s desperation. They’ll do ok because they’re Apple and have $250B in cash to throw around, but they also have Edy Cue in charge. Until the dinosaurs with delusions of infallibility (e.g., Cue, Schiller) clear out, the company will continue to play catch up with the industry’s more innovative and in-touch enterprises.

It’s amusing how some people think Apple will pave the way for cord cutting when good cord cutting solutions have been out for a while now.
The ideal Apple customer. Apple’s entire business model now is cultivating such people.

So, sort of a question re: AirPlay 2---isn't that just for mirroring your iOS device to your ATV and I guess, in the future, to your Samsung or LG TV?

I was mirroring something from YouTube to my ATV yesterday---mildly distracting to have a 13 inch MBP running the same thing as the 55 inch TV 15 feet away.

If so, I guess mirroring is a good solution in the same way Chromecasting is, but I think it's sort of a wonky work around.

Apple’s subscription service is around the corner and for what I hear is that your favorite Bollywood shows are soon airing. Have fun with your $ 99,99 /mo Applestream

They probably will, somewhere in 2025 or so.

Do share.

Contrary to whatever ideologies you have, most open minded experienced people will have hybrid solutions. You will rarely find a tech enthusiast locked into the Apple ecosystem.

Apple’s ecosystem “works” but there are always limitations where it can’t do certain things that a user may want.

It all comes down to cost/benefit.
I have been looking into cut the cord but DirecTV keeps slashing my satellite bill to keep me as customer. I pay $35 a month with 250+ channels, some regional sports and DVR. Hard to let it go.

You know what I need? A service that bundles all the streaming services I want for one price. So I can get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN, HBO all in one package. Why hasn't anyone thought of that?

All this. For the consumer the end result will just be the same. The only thing that changes is who we are paying. Say you’re the typical family of 4 somewhere in the western world. If you get Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, Apple’s service and Disney’s new service as well as a local live sports package (dues to current license models), you are going to be paying way more than you used to for a premium cable + internet where you got the same content.

We all are getting what we wished for, but it isn’t going to be any better for the majority. Probably end up paying more than before!

Screw the original content. All I want is a way to find out where a specific piece of media is free across all of the services I have. And if it is NOT free, which service offers it to me for the lowest cost. Now I have to open Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime and search on each one.

AirPlay2 doesn't even honor your iTunes equalizer settings, or any of your iTunes Playback preferences! How can they hope to take over streaming video when they can't even deliver audio!?

Seriously, AirPlay 2 completely broke streaming audio in iTunes.

LOL, but I think that whatever Apple comes up with might look like a Super-Cable Package; one interface that integrates the Apple Channel(s) with Hulu, Netflix, and whatever networks and cable channels I want.

Interface needs to be more Netflix-like, but there is a world of improvement compared to the current cable TV grid approach.

Damn, that is a pretty good deal. I call every few months and threaten to cancel and I don't get anywhere near that good a deal... though I do have more channels.

I'll never buy in so long as that craptastic apple tv remote exists. Offer an app through LG's webOS please.

Most non-Apple remotes work with Apple TV. You just lose Siri "functionality".
[doublepost=1548874169][/doublepost]I love how "services" is just business jargon for "subscriptions" aka passive income.

At least there's hope they'll license Mac OS to some decent hardware in the future when they finally give up.

Living in the Bay Area i have two choices ATT (SLOW) Or comcast (fast expensive)
The only way to cut cable entirely is to get another broadband provider to fight against these Uber giants. Sonic is not available in my area (YES IN THE SF BAY AREA) so i am stuck paying $79 a month for just internet...

So until apple provides a secure internet service.. i am stuck with the comcast tie down..
