Why is there no salutation in the email, but just the rakish "Team:"?

Are employees machines, that receive orders?

The iPhone 5C could be one of the best profit generators Apple has ever built. It will be cheap to produce and will fly off the shelves at a record pace. Tim Cook knows how to make money and focus on lowering production cost.
So true. Although I wish he knew how to innovate faster and keep secrets. Nothing was a surprise today.

I'm surprised Apple has been caught this flat-footed. The rise of the Big Screen Phones has been going on for the last year, and is picking up steam.

Now the "flagship" phone has a piddling screen in both size and resolution compared to the Samsung S4.

Don't be surprised / get upset if we get a February refresh on the iPhone line - it has real market holes compared to Android.

Seems no ones taking much notice 5c bright colours = iMac 5s = pro mac there not going too change prices that much for now at least

What a huge disappointment today's launch was. SJ must be spinning in his grave about how far mighty Apple has fallen.

What would have stunned the market and made customers happy would have been a new iPhone with a 4.7" IGZO screen. Instead we got the same screen wrapped in crayola colored plastic. The door is wide open now for the competition to be the first to launch IGZO because it will be a year before the iPhone 6 comes out. And Apple will be playing catch up instead of leading.

Apple also needs to replace iTunes with something better for moving files into and out of the iPhone. I know people who moved to Android because they were frustrated with iTunes. With Samsung, for instance, you can put files on an SD card and drop it into the phone.

Elvis Costello should have played "Less Than Zero" as this year's Apple theme song.

Don't forget that apple is in this to make money..Not satisfy each individuals mobile fantasy. The 5S and 5C will set sales records..again..And rake in HUGE profits. Then next year will come and they'll do it all over again. I'm sure the 6 will be great. I'll be getting both. And can't wait.

With all that said, Apple has lost their magic and that's because Jobs isn't here anymore. Not saying that the 5S would've been hugely awesome and radically different if Jobs was still around. It wouldn't have been. But it would've felt more "magical".

Why is it that when Cook says "incredible" I no longer believe it.

With Jobs, it meant something. With Cook, it seems insincere.

I have to agree, the iPhone has some great engineering but when you look at it, that same form factor just doesn't do it anymore, SJ would have got that, he would have understood the importance of a larger screen...what a shame, I certainly won't be buying one, I'd love to have the features, but the upgrade is just not worth it with the same screen as I already have. A very stupid move by Apple..

This is what I've been thinking too. Some people here may scoff, but the colors on the 5C are going to make it a very desired item for younger people. 5C is going to be the iPod mini of iPhones.

My concern is the non-U.S. market. $99 on contract is fine for Americans who are used to subsidized pricing models. $549 is entirely too much for most upfront buyers outside of the U.S.

$399 base and $499 32GB would have seemed more reasonable to me, but I guess Apple wants to boost its margins.

Looking at the ugliness of it all, I'm pretty sure that Apple management hasn't come down from the LSD trip they collectively took at an offsite a year ago. Maybe Jonny Ive is the new Timothy Leary...

Boy do we sorely miss Jobs. You believed Jobs really meant everything he was saying. As much as I like Schiller and to a lesser extent Cook I feel the whole thing is more of a sales pitch. They go over the top and its not as believable.

Disappointing

This was disappointing on a couple of different levels. No 802.11ac in the iPhone. No new iPad refresh. I've been a pretty loyal Apple customer, but I think I have to seriously consider a Samsung phone now. Apple used be one of the first out with new technologies. Different colors? Please!!

Some thoughts...

I think the "s" this year was going to be security, but then NSA news drip made that a no-go. I think the finger print sensor was going to be THE big deal, but probably bombed in focus group tests.

The move to colors is smart.

Keeping the same size and form factor is incredibly bad news--if entirely expected, as well. Apple is NOT ok and you can ask any teenager to confirm. The iPhone 5 has been a disaster for the company, despite what Apple is claiming publicly. Note the iPhone 5 release and go do a historic chart of Apple's stock price if you want some support for this claim. iPhone 5 is not solely to blame, but a bland and boring flagship product caused many people to lose their interest in Apple as a company. The 5s just confirms suspicions all the more. No edginess, no innovation, and fear of risk taking. Apple needed a bigger phone last year, and they desperately need one today.

iOS 7 looks like it's meant for teenage girls, so I'm not excited personally, but maybe the playful exuberance will hold some people's interest.

Over the last few years Apple has stopped giving a fark. They're run by super wealthy people who care more about securing a revenue stream than shipping an amazing product.

We really don't know that the iPhone 5C costs less to make than the iPhone 5.

I do think that this was Apple's way to maintain their flagship premier device and also PERCEPTUALLY a "budget" phone - that also can be more whimsical (more color options, etc - which will appeal to many.

Now they have the best of both worlds. They don't "tarnish" the elegance of the "iPhone" but instead of a "c" series. It's no surprise there's no black or gold iPhone 5C...

At the end of the day - I think Apple created two products with plenty of profit margin to make a killing.

I'm sure people who don't follow rumor-based websites are pleased. And I'm sure some people who do follow them are also pleased.

Also, iTunes handles all sorts of stuff that no basic drag-and-drop method can. Starred songs, smart playlists based on things like those stars, volume level control on a per-song basis... it's like the Dock Connector vs USB debate all over again.

Of course, why am I even bothering to talk to you. Just go join your android buddies.

This is so easy to see right thru:

Apple is just trickling features into each iteration. You know they are fully capable of releasing a kick as phone but holding back so they can pull in more money. That's their bottom line these days. Long gone is greatness once introduced to the world in 2007, when the first iphone and first iOS 2.0 with apps was introduced.

Now Tim tries so hard to distort reality but he just can't wield the power given to him. No matter how he writes this email, it's just pathetic.

New stuff making iPhone 5 different than iphone 5S:

1) A7 processor which we don't even really care too much since on iPhone 5, it's already fast enough

2) Camera which is really BS - because these new features should've been in iPhone 5 anyway.

3) Finger print sensor - my iPhone 5 will NOT suddenly cease to work. In fact, how difficult is it to type in a numeral password anyway?
