I'd delete some of the stock apps but I guess their footprint is really small. So instead of asking Tim about the app he should have asked about the measly 16GB entry model. Being able to delete some apps won't solve the problem, they could just hide them and it would be the same
Yes, saving 50 to 100 MB apparently is more important than gaining 16 GB. I'd say the stock apps issue is more about people not getting their way than about anything else.

How about a switch in Settings to toggle these apps visibility off.

Or, better yet, toggle the entire last page off, which is where they all live.

LOL. But yes, "visibility" I think is the main issue people have a problem with, not the small app size of the Stocks app. Just allowing me to hide them, not delete, would be sufficient for 99% of all people.

I want a "default" apps feature. I want to be able to set a default web browser, default maps/navigation, default email client... etc.
And switch them all to Google and MS apps. Tim is watching you.

This is a silly strawman. Comparing functions like BT and Wifi to the Stocks or Tips app is o_O. The desire to delete unwanted apps is not an unreasonable request, especially since Tim says not all stock apps are systemically important. Deleting unwanted apps is not an Apple specific request either. No one wants bloatware, be it from Apple, Samsung, or any other vendor. No one should have to have a crap folder on their device.

You're the one using strawman. Notice I said "many"(if you actually bother to read the post) and I agree that Tips and Stocks should be optional. However, I wasn't talking about the Tips or Stocks apps. What about the photos, maps, videos, compass, clock or facetime app? Heck iBooks, despite it's ebook focused name, is how iOS devices natively locally store and open PDFs and other documents, which can be considered a vital function of the phone. I certainly wouldn't put any of the stock apps on the same league as the carrier/OEM bloatware that comes on many android devices and OEM PCs.

I think the reason they haven't allowed you to hide stock apps is because for some of those apps it's going to require a replacement app. Meaning, third party app replacement to ensure the functions needed are still there. I think this is a hint that they're working on 3rd party default apps.

Mail, for example. Say you use the Gmail app and never the Mail app. In order to hide that app, iOS would need to know where to create a new email message with the Share sheet.

This is probably the best answer I think. I believe iOS 10 or iOSX could include this.

Cool! I'd delete Stocks, Find my Friends, Podcasts, Tips, Compass, Contacts and Game Centre if I could.

i don't get why people don't just take the apps they don't want to see but can't delete, pile them in a 'storage' folder and put on the last page. or on a last page all by itself. cold storage. it doesn't take up appreciable room...

I am glad that they did not make a way to delete the Tips app. I didn't know it's so integrated with the system that removing it would BREAK EVERYTHING.

Same. I'd say we'll see default iOS apps within the next 2 releases.

Once that happens, you'll be able to hide any app. I think they're just waiting for the full functionality to be finalized before letting us delete or hide even the Tips app. Instead of doing twice the work, they enable it for everything when it's properly ready.

Cook is making it more complicated than it is. Just implement a setting to hide certain apps.
If you know anything about this forum you know that won't be "enough". The complaining will be that they want the apps completely removed off the system so they can reclaim the used up space. And then if Tim Cook actually allows you to remove them then people will come here complaining that Apple shouldn't force the apps on them in the first place. And then if Tim Cook decides not to include any stock apps then people will come here and complain how much easier it is to get started on an Android phone because it has stock apps.

Entitled humans. I remember back in the Windows 95 days when I and most others spent hours each night just getting Windows to work. Now today nobody wants to do any work on their own products. They expect the manufacturer to do everything for them even though there are millions of customer's needs to cater to. Sad really.
The truth is social media allows consumers to make things far more complicated than they need to be.

I'd love this, for instance I never use Apple Maps for anything. But they have to be careful about it's implementation. I had a Samsung Galaxy S5 and I couldn't stand the way Android implemented it. It felt very clumsy to me. I'm not sure how they could do better, but I hope they'd at least try.

Perhaps the "hide/show" feature for iCloud Drive is a test run to see if people understand it. Remember, just because people here may understand such a feature doesn't mean everyone will. They have to worry about the most tech illiterate when deciding features. It can't be easy making the most inclusive OS. That being said, I want a hide/show feature too. However, one exists in some respects. It's called Restrictions.

You used to be able to do that for the apps that had stores as part of them to limit a user from spending money. I don;t see why a visibility toggle would be so hard to implement. The only reason I can think of is Apple's focus on a consistent user experience from phone to phone. If you pick up two different iPhones, the exact same default apps are present.

The real reason is that these stock apps define what an iPhone is, at least on a software level. And perhaps they are better being tied to the OS. But not being able to at least hide stock apps is a major affront to the users. The paying users. I want what I want when I want it. And after a lifetime of growing up with distractions and coddled to death with the unrealistic and selfish demand for constant instant gratification, I am rendered incapable of filtering out irrelevancy and distinguishing between minor and major greiances. Therefore the only viable and sensible solution is to fire Tim Cook.

This. Apple, if you really care about the customers, don't be so desperate to grab the extra $100 to get something better than the ancient 16GB
So in other words you want Apple to help make sure their customers have no incentive to upgrade to more storage space from the base model. You're expecting that of a company that is running a business? Hmmm.

People with 1st world problems posting how their very lives are adversely affected by stock iOS apps. SMDH

The point is to be able to delete those apps and then apple should put them online to download from App Store as wished by the user! It is totally fine to not let you delete safari, but stocks and tips should have been so long time ago !!!
