Would Tim Cook really make an announcement like this for an AirTag update?

A new SE would be expected but has he done this for that product before?
Potentially just a quick post as they’ve smoothed things over with Musk/X? Would be an odd coincidence that Apple resumes advertising yesterday, he makes the post today and Musk reshared it…

Could just be a marketing thing.

Hmm that graphic does awfully look like an AirTag

It looks a little bit like the shape of the underside of Mac mini, but the corners of the min are more rounded.

Also, the warped reflection of the image almost looks like a camera aperture (bottom left) and flash (top right).

My guess it is a new AirTag that you can peel off and use it in many applications including remotes.

Newest member of the family. I don’t think it’s AirTags, iPhoneSE, those are all already in the family. Think a new product will be launched.

Maybe a game console? A lot of games are releasing on the Mac App Store this month.

Maybe it's not a release but a preview of the rumoured new Home device?

Home smart hub?

HomePod with screen

The image is square so could be the new smart home controller.

I've been around here long enough that while I love the speculation, and the anticipation a teaser like this generates, I have also learned that it hardly ever turns out to be as exciting as imagined… And is usually on the more mundane end of the scale 🫤

When all is said and done, Apple use the various channels at their disposal to hype many of their product launches, whether or not they are groundbreaking (and there have been many such of the latter – I'm just not sure this time is will be so).

Are you trying to imply this WON'T be a M5-Ultra-based AirTag + Router + Star Trek badge communicator + iPhone SE + Home hub + AppleTV + Game console??? Say it ain't so. ;)

“Given the rumors that Apple may be naming the new entry-model iPhone as the "16E," I can imagine that Apple might want to introduce it as an entirely "new" model compared to the old SE lineup.

Similar to how Apple introduced the iPad "Pro" and Apple Watch "Ultra" as entirely "new" products compared to the existing iPad and Apple Watch lineups, introducing an "iPhone 16E" as a new model entirely would be a way for Apple to break from consumer expectations of the "SE" - specifically the price. It could be a way for Apple to stealthily raise the starting price of the "entry-level" iPhone.”

Saw this commented on another site - I’m thinking this is more likely

In a social media post today, Apple CEO Tim Cook teased an upcoming "launch" of some kind scheduled for Wednesday, February 19.
They’ve hired Elon Musk.

I think people need to reign in their expectations. All Apple needs to do is rebrand the new SE to the “16E” as rumored and it technically counts as a “new member of the family” from Apple’s perspective.

I very much doubt Apple would be able to introduce something actually new without anything leaking ahead of time.
