It's about time they stop calling MacBook Air, air - there's nothing air about them anymore.
My 13"6 is heavy comparing to the Air's I've had earlier.

Maybe a white new MacBook Air, a lot lighter - Joni Ive have designed a 11" MBA!
Probably not, but that was a nice thought 🥰

Uh...yes.

X platform brings in more dollars which funds more projects, more products, more services, and of course keeps shareholders happy which you probably don't care about but it's a fact of life from buying products from a publicly traded company.

if shareholders aren't happy, Tim Cook would just raise prices or find some way to extract $$$ from you to which you will pay or you will refuse by leaving the Apple ecosystem. if that's the case, was all of that trouble worth getting Tim off of X?
X is a loser that only owes its remaining popularity to having been Twitter. Cook could easily switch over to Bluesky and never look back, but he doesn't because he wants to avoid displeasing the bully.

If Apple had any guts this would be the All New M5 MBA.
But no, year old tech finally making its way to the MBA is what we are expected to get excited about, at least until the M5 iPad Pro in June 🙄
The MBA is the low end of Apple laptops. We should not expect the best of the very latest tech on the low end devices.

Honest question...I have a base model 2021 MBP 14" M1p...would the new Air M4 likely be more powerful, or would the M1p I have still be a bigger powerhouse?
Neither of those are powerhouses. Which box is more powerful for you will depend upon what apps are being used and how much RAM each box has.

Apple CEO Tim Cook today teased a new product announcement coming "this week."

"There's something in the air," the teaser says.

This teaser likely refers to a new MacBook Air with the M4 chip, which is already expected to be announced as early as this week.

Apple used the same "there's something in the air" slogan before it announced the original MacBook Air in 2008.

Cook shared a similar teaser last month, ahead of the iPhone 16e announcement. As was the case with the iPhone 16e, the new MacBook Air or any other new product should be announced in a press release on the Apple Newsroom website, and there could be an accompanying YouTube video announcement.

Beyond the M4 chip, the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models are expected to have Thunderbolt 4 ports, a Center Stage camera, longer battery life, and a few other upgrades.

What are some other wild-card "air" possibilities?

A new iPad Air is also expected to launch at some point fairly soon, and a new AirTag is also expected by mid-2025. There is also a rumored "iPhone 17 Air" with an ultra-thin design, but that device is not expected to be unveiled until September.

People keep saying “iPhone 17 Air”. Personally I don’t think it’ll have a number as part of it naming. It’ll likely just be “iPhone Air” and to differentiate each cycle it can likely be followed by 1st gen, 2nd gen etc. it’s also possible it could be launched with this announcement each year being a mid cycle infusion to bolster revenue during this quarter. It could be an Air launch each year at this time including all Air products lines. MacBook Air, iPad Air and now the iPhone Air. It’s possible.

According to official measurements, the current 13” MBA is the lightest 13” model they’ve ever made.

Except you can see the ports on the old one.
"Introducing the new MacBook Air with zero ports. We think you're going to love it."
It uses all-new MagSafe4 charging technology with support for ultra-fast data* transfer instead of those pesky old usb-c ports! And we could even make it 0.3 mm thinner. This is the best MacBook we've ever made!

*Data-Capable cord (USB 2.0 speed) sold separately, PRO cord (USB 3.1 speeds) also available.

If they could fit a battery and charging system into a credit card, then they better fit more battery life into an Apple Watch.
There are some options out there where you can charge your card. I think Nomad has one you can use magsafe. Apple could easily make it way better.

If I recall right that discussion have been up here before, and the weight might be slightly lighter on the newer MBA - the size however is too much bigger for me, which makes the experience 'heavier' for me.
It's about personal preferences.

Sounds like you just want an 11" or 12" model, which is fair, but the current MBA is in fact very small and light for a 13" (actually 13.6") notebook. Still worthy of the "Air" name, in my opinion. Certainly more so than the iPad Air which is now thicker and heavier than the Pro.

I would much prefer a smaller, even if slightly heavier, but that is not an option at today's Apple.
As I still prefer macOS and the convenience of Apple's stuff, I buy what's available and don't suffer much.
But if I had a choice, I would've chosen Ive's design every day before today's more industrial designs.
But that is not an option. As I said, these discussions are useless, at least to me.
