I could see that happening tbh, and/or announcing/releasing the M5 macbook pro.

Most likely it'll be a small promotion for that day only, like 2% off non-Apple brand accessories, 5% off Apple-brand, something like that, in the form of Apple store credit, in-store only, limit to 1 item per customer, etc...

Website will probably have a video showing the mac/macOS morphing through its changes over the last 50 years, ending with the new M5 macbook pro. Probably some spec multiplier floating in the background, so they can say the latest is x10,000 more powerful that the original.

Been an Apple developer since 1988 (young student programmer at the time). I've been through a lot of Apple ups and downs. And, I can honestly say that the current Apple is the least Apple of all of the Apple's I've seen in four decades.

I mean, even when Sculley pushed for Apple to be more corporate in the late 80s / early 90s, the company still retained a bit of that pirate / rogue vibe. Then, Jobs returned and moved the company's pendulum back to that "crazy ones" atmosphere. But, as Cook took over more responsibility (as Job's heath failed), the company swung back to being less rogue and more corporate. Now, with Cook in full bloom, Apple has become a media giant that also makes phones and computers. The over produced presentations and glossy product marketing almost sicken me now. (Someone should stick the entire Apple marketing group in a room and make them watch Jobs's 1999 iBook presentation on a loop for 24 hours).

Apple is now in the hands of people who don't remember (or even know) what Apple stood for. Sure they're supremely successful, but they really aren't Apple anymore. Are they?

The only reason I stay on Apple platforms at this point is because Android just sucks that badly.

Steve Wozniak single-handedly invented the world's first personal computer as we know it, which is the Apple I, which was Apple's very first product. In Apple's entire history, the Apple I was, by far, their most innovative product. It changed the world. Only around 200 units of the Apple I were ever made, and they were only sold at one store in Mountain View, California, but the Apple I changed the world due to its influence on personal computers that followed. No other personal computer in history has ever had such an impact on the world. Every personal computer in the world today is an evolution of the Apple I. It is primitive by today's standards, but at the time, it was revolutionary to an extent that has never been matched before or since.

Let's not forget the Apple II, which is almost all Woz, and is widely credited for launching the personal computer revolution.

So in computing history, Jobs was important, but Woz was far more important than Jobs.

Everyone likes to pile on Apple these days eh.

Some criticism is warranted, but man people take for granted how incredible their devices are. My Mac has provided for my family for 20 years and is an incredible tool. Go use Windows 11 for a bit if you hate macOS so much.

I am sorry but I dont agree with that. iPhones do have better SOC but iOS is beyond restrictive.

I have a Mac and had a ][e back then, iPads, iPods but never an AppleTV nor an iPhone because I cant place myself in such a locked down and censored platform.

Until either they relax their draconian rules or allow proper sideloading, I will stay on Android for phones and streamers

Since the Mac came out in 1984, the 50th Mac anniversary will be on 2034.

But if we are talking about the Apple 1, then we are talking about the proper 50th anniversary of the company.

Hell, some argue that the ][GS was better than a Mac but was gimped from the get go thanks to Jobs being the snake he was.

Without Woz, Jobs would had not been in the computer world, since only in the Apple scenario he would be able to pull all the abuses he did.

Heck, when he was working at Atari, they already moved him to a separated area because he was problematic employee.

My Apple G4 Cube is sitting on a dresser with the display and speakers that match. My M1 Ultra Mac Studio would actually fit inside the cube enclosure. The difference between the "horsepower" of the Cube and my M1 Ultra remains an exercise for the reader to contemplate. The Cube was the gleam in Steve's eye, but the reality of using one was perhaps not up to the dream. Thus a relatively short production run.

We could change the amount of memory with off the shelf options from multiple vendors as well as the brand and capacity of the internal hard drive. The connectors to the peripherals included the ADB cabling ports.

Those were the good times and lots of enthusiasm was in the air.

Apple is so sterile today that it makes the clean room at a super dust free plant seem like the air inside such a facility is a dust storm by comparison. Apple has become so big that is is like the aircraft carrier in a fleet battle group that requires miles of open water to do a 180 degree turn, while the smaller nimble destroyers zip in out of the formation with ease.

Apple would do well to remember their nimble days.

The company just reported an all-time revenue record last quarter, driven by all-time high iPhone sales, so the company is still peaking financially.

the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh was released to commemorate Apple’s 20th anniversary, not the Macintosh’s 20th anniversary.

Goodness there’s a lot of hate for Apple here, you’d think it was a forum for a competitor!

As someone who switched sides in the PC/Mac holy wars, I’m hoping there’s some good celebrations of great Apple designs, and maybe some cool tributes to them in upcoming products.

Apple could literally bank on nostalgia by selling us remakes of their old hardware, like Idk a limited edition ipod classic with modern hardware and software or bring back see through macintoshes rather than downloadable stuff. Or hey limited edition colors also!!
