I'm very curiious to see how this is implemented. I can't quite picture use case senerios that will have a huge impact on our lives.

I think most people still don't understand what Cook really means with AR. When talking about AR most people think about those ****** apps which work with your phone camera and display unrealistic jaggery 3D objects on your table.

What Cook is talking about is true AR with AR-Glasses. Think if it like real holographic objects projected right into your living room, on the streets etc. Like HoloLens but in the form factor of normal glasses. The iPhone just acts as the processing unit.

Say, you don't like the boring white paint of your walls anymore? No problem, with a few taps your AR-Glasses project a new design just right on your walls (without the jittery produced by inaccurate head tracking and slow sensory processing). Want to change the whole style of your room? No problem! With an easy tap you can buy our Victorian-Style overlay texture pack for your room* from our In-App store!

*Room depth tracking required on first startup to ensure accurate projection on couch, tables, chairs and walls.

Want to have a fake table in the middle of your room just for lolz? No problem! Do you want to check how your furniture will look in real life when put directly in your room in accurate measuring? No problem!

Tired of your tiny laptop screen, but don't want to buy 3 external displays to be more productive? No problem, with AR-Glasses you just project 3 virtually desktops right in front of you! And mind you! You can even adjust the screen size to your liking...I mean who doesn't want 3 80" desktops?

Want to have a weather widget right on your front door so you always know if you need to take the umbrella with you or not? No problem!

Think of it more like what Microsoft is doing with HoloLens, but much more refined, with a 180° field of view, super accurate head tracking, and high resolution projecting.

The possibilities are endless with proper AR.

Just look at this to get an idea of what AR is really about:

Just look at the end part with the video player. Who needs an Apple TV when you can just drag your VLC/QuickTimePlayer across your whole wall.

guy honestly thinks he is a celebrity. Which explains apple's direction
Meeting with developers and Apple stores employees is acting like a celebrity. My goodness. The criticism is a lot less effective when every single thing he does is criticized. It's become criticism for criticism sake. Not effective at all.

If augmented reality is such a huge opportunity why do we not have any of the Apple products embracing it, or is that somewhere in the pipeline?

My advice to the Apple user don't go any further than the iPad 2, iPhone 5S, MacBook Pro 2012 (Retina and non Retina), 2012 Mac Mini and 2011 iMac. From thereon you are getting an inferior product courtesy of Tim Cook. The man is an arse and not worthy of the Apple name.

You forgot the MacPro 4,1/5,1.

And that is where I am actually at.

Don't worry Apl glasses are coming (requiring iPhone and Airpods) Tim knows Apl users will pay to have the latest Apl fad. Meanwhile Hololens will change Industries. Its sad. Infinitely adding more and more to the iPhone.

The rest of us will perhaps get $299 VR shells from OEMs with 6-degrees of freedom. Save a bit. Coming this March or April based on Hololens and Windows Holographic platform built into 10. I plan to get "Galaxy Explorer" it won an AR idea competition.

Just watch that video - It will be nothing but ads, since only the major content providers(aka sellers of ads) will be able to throw enough resources at it, to collect and fill in all the data required to provide the overlays.

It would conceivably be a living version of hell.

This, this, a thousand times this!!! Though I respectfully disagree with the iPad, as I use mine daily, and look forward to updates.

This is where I have stopped with Apple hardware. I really need to replace some old iMacs, and I know Apple's only shot at their replacements is with an updated Mac Mini. The likelihood of that happening is about 10% - and that is even with me acquiescing on crappy soldered RAM.

I'm 90% exiting, all thanks to Tim(see my sig)

"... Apple will "continue to push" not only on the hardware side..."

The **** are they smoking at Apple? Push on the hardware side?

All of your computers are using mid-tier laptop GPUs from last generation at best. None of your computers can even run VR. How in the **** can they even say they push on the hardware side when their best computers cant match the best PCs for the same price?

For 2000$ or so I can get a PC laptop with a DESKTOP GeForce 1070 GPU in it. Whats your 2000$ laptop have? Bloody Iris 540 integrated. Even your most expensive laptop only packs a modest mobile GPU.

Just.. shut the hell up. Like I cannot even comprehend the absolute BS Apple spews these days. They're soooooo far behind the curve on hardware.

It would be fine if he didn't allow it to become a news story. I would have respect for him if he met with people privately, without the publicity.

As far as I'm concerned, Apple is now no different than HP or Compaq, an average company that puts out average products, with average employees. All the good people have left. Yay for diversity, where everybody is a winner.

But he's 'old'...

Ken Olson: 'No one should ever need a computer in their home'. Hey, Ken, we have 12 (maybe more) computers in our home (not counting iPads and iPhones). His problem was he didn't Think Different...

Augmented reality is a fad. (Will I be proven wrong in 60 years?

I really hope Tim puts out a mini, a pro and makes some price cuts just to shut up all the haters on here.

I'd shut up for sure if I got a Mac Pro... Or even a Mac Mini for my MIL.

So much Tim Cook hate...

He may not be the same kind of visionary/personality as Steve Jobs was but he has a passion for what he does. He's reserved, analytical, caring, and a genius at what he does.

I hate to say it but Steve Jobs was an ego-centric, larger than life personality, brash, believes he is always right, creates a reality distortion field for his follows, extremely divisive and unliked by many, can see things differently than other people, believes he knows better than others about what they want.... He did a fantastic job of brining Apple back into relevance, but the company that Apple has become today doesn't need a Jobs-like figure. It needs a calming, rational, thoughtful presence.

Am I satisfied with everything Apple has done in the past 6 years? No. Things certainly could have been done better, but by who? I don't know. I think Tim Cook has been absolutely masterful in most of the changes he has made to Apple.

Tim's idea of everything else in the world is "connected"to smartphone to even use make use of like the Apple watch..

If Apple is going AR,don't use a smart phone to bring it down.... We don't always have a smart phone on us, but Apple's making us if u like to use this stuff because it's all interconnected. in some way... back to the smart phone. (eg... no VR in smart phone that u can extend to a VR headset)...SHould be separate.
