Great! - too bad he can't Appetence style fire Tim Cook for running the company into the ground. If Tim spent half as much time to leading innovation than he does on social issues outside what Apple should be concerned with then people wouldn't be jumping ship to Microsoft left and right.

That would require preparation and study.

True False quiz:
America doesn't have nearly the manufacturing experience of China.
The Chinese labor force is five times the size of the US labor force.
American's will not work the same hours as Chinese labor.
American's will not work with the same intensity as Chinese labor.
Trump will make Chinese products prohibitively expensive with tariffs.

This will present a massive supply and demand problem. No one will buy Chinese because it will be expensive. American products will be poorly made, and there will be a lot less of them since we're 1/5 the size. So American products will also be incredibly expensive as supply can in no way keep up. So most people stop buying stuff. Companies can't sell what they're making and can't afford to make what they're selling.

America doesn't have nearly the manufacturing experience of China. False. I feel the US knows how to build things as much as any country these days.

The Chinese labor force is five times the size of the US labor force. True. But the US still has a large labor force that's mostly untapped. Currently we have 80 Million people unemployed.

American's will not work the same hours as Chinese labor. Somewhat True. However, US workers are not lazy either and many in other manufacturing jobs volunteer for overtime.

American's will not work with the same intensity as Chinese labor. I believe False. American's are hard workers too.

Trump will make Chinese products prohibitively expensive with tariffs. Maybe. Yes, he talks about a 30% Tariff, but that all has to be approved by Congress. So maybe 10% becomes the reality? Besides, you're not considering that companies like Apple don't have to move ALL manufacturing here. They may only move NA Manufacturing here and let China do the rest of the world. Plus, Tariffs would not be on retail prices, but on wholesale prices. Tariffs might raise prices 5% on an iPhone when the rubber actually hits the road.

BTW.... not sure why you think US products will be poorly made? I think the American worker is way better than that.

If he can find a way to squeeze a few more dollars for his bottom line he will play with the devil. That is ALL Cook cares about. It sure isn't the heritage that made Apple great. Damn you Cook!

Fake News:

HILLARY COULD WIN TEXAS
HILLARY WILL WIN PRESIDENCY IN LANDSLIDE
COULD HILLARY TURN TEXAS RED?
+20 LEAD FOR CLINTON IN LATEST POLL
REPUBLICANS AT BREAKING POINT - GOP IS CRUMBLING
TRUMP IS TEARING UP THE PARTY FROM WITHIN

Literally all these things were true with the (true) data at the time.

You're arguing something is "fake" because the facts on the ground change? This is not how the universe works...

The "fake news" is the news written, intentionally falsely, at source, usually by Macedonian teenagers for ad clicks. This was literally 90% of the "news" on red-leaning Facebook feeds: it's designed to go viral.

And the ones about the GOP crumbing are still true. Have you spoken to anyone in the GOP outside the Trump bubble? There is blind panic about post-Trump elections, given he's taken the Party of Reagan and jettisoned its core mantra...

On a personal level the only thing I care about with the tech industry is the suffocating cost of living in the Bay Area and resulting decimation of cultural and economic diversity. I highly doubt Trump will be covering this because it’s a First World Gold Member Plus problem.

I think Tim took the bait Trump put out. 'VERY LARGE TAXCUT' were the words that made Timmy forget all the things he had against Trump and he will probably be sitting on Trumps lap o_O

Doesn't matter what your political affiliations are, any CEO would be stupid to not attend.

Trump is right about immigration and international trade. He is dead wrong when it comes to the encryption issue.

If you have any desire to inform or influence any potential future policy you will not be successful by refusing to attend. Get over yourselves and grow up.

Imagine New York City, not able to charge a sales tax. Imagine New York state not able to charge a state income tax. Imagine a country where nothing works, and there isn't any money to pay to maintain it. I think you can. It's called Iraq. It's called Pakistan. It's called Kansas...
Nice one Pinky.

Steve Jobs was conceived out of wedlock, and in today's abortion-on-demand climate, probably would never have been born. A curious conundrum for many of the ardent SJ fans who lean left politically. Does anyone know if Jobs shared their views on abortion?
Who cares? Steve is well beyond any "sanctity of life" issues at this point.

And, unless you have a uterus, what business of yours is it?

Or are you one of those theocrats that thinks women are just incubators, whose bodies are owned by the state?

Ok, I guess I'll be 'that guy' who doesn't know and wants to ask. Why is Mark Cuban on this list? Is he a tech valley entrepreneur or CEO? I know he's ultra partisan because all I've ever seen of him is being on air peddling left wing talking points, usually on MSNBC or CNN.

With most of the other people I could tell you- without their title- what company they are associated with, but not him.

In my opinion, not going to the meeting is short sighted. You lose the chance to see what is happening first hand, lose the ability to influence the direction, and have to rely on second hand information that could and will likely affect your company.
DT's thoughts are not set in stone. Use the opportunity vs. losing it.

I'm glad everything is so benign to you...

I make no judgements on whether things are benign or not. All I am doing is calling a spade a spade. The executive team of any public company is accountable to it's shareholders. They will do what they can to maximize the current and future profits of a company in an effort to return an acceptable return on investment for its shareholders.

There are organizations whose primary objective is not to return a profit but rather to provide a service to people of need. If understand correctly, those are called charities.

Satya Nadella is going to lobby for more work visas. MS loves to hire foreign cheap labor but there is a scare that Trump will not increase the number of work visas to take away American jobs to give to foreigners for 25+% less pay.

Yep, and the fact that virtually all of them heavily supported and/or donated for Hillary, and now DT is meeting with all of them says that he is putting politics aside. Business is business. To be honest, I've lost a bit of respect for those CEOs not going. Don't put personal politics before business and country, which is sadly something that has become more and more common these days.

Y
our feelings are irrelevant. They are not facts, they are not even educated guesses.

Only about 14 million people in the U.S. are currently unemployed/underemployed. People who took early retirement, are stay at home parents, working age teenagers and 40+ million people over the age of 65 are not people who should be considered "unemployed".

Trump should move to nationalize companies headed by CEOs who refuse to show up, that will show em.

If President-Elect Trump's disposition since winning the election tells us anything, it is that he will not be rubbing anything in anyone's face. Sorry Timbo. He will try to get everyone on the same page, or at least on the same chapter. I don't agree with what Trump said in the past about encryption. I'm glad Apple (sort of) stood their ground. But I think he probably just wants to have a larger discussion about potential solutions to cyber terrorism, bringing manufacturing back to the States, and infrastructure. To decline a meeting with the future President seems pretty arrogant and prideful if you ask me. At least go and listen to what he has to say. Classic double-standard.

He's a fellow reality TV star?

In all seriousness, he made his fortune in the internet boom, though it's debatable what his influence is currently.

As for his politics, he's kind of all over the place. I know he supported Clinton, but it's been noted he's a big Ayn Rand believer in the past. Not commenting on either, but I don't think he could be labeled "left wing."

Are you evaluating as a stock holder or a consumer of electronics? Those are two very different things.

Also, you don't need a CEO to lead in innovations. You need your CEO make sure the business is running smoothly and efficiently. And looking at things like repatriating money that is stuck overseas. I need Tim to be thinking about how to improve my returns on Apple stock, not thinking about how to fit a 3.5" drive or a tape drive into a Macbook pro. Let the design guys figure out product design.

Well this is awqward.

No doubt Trump will have a fun time rubbing their faces in it. The office of president is probably the only one they consider higher than the ones they arrogantly occupy, except maybe Tim Cook, he probably still thinks he's superior.

If I was president I'd be digging up all the dirt on these people, their companies and how they operate like they've no doubt done on him. Knowing your opponent is how it works in business and Trump probably knows this well.

My garbage man is superior to Donald Trump. His getting elected has permanently tarnished the office of the POTUS.
