I’ve never encountered anyone who said a commencement speech inspired them. None can even remember who gave the address. Steve Jobs’ famous one is probably the only memorable one I’ve heard of.

I remember a minute of mine, where the speaker referenced Chuckles the Clown on how to approach and go forward in life: A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.

Best advice ever.

Summary of the speech before the speech
- You can do anything you want even if you aren't good at it. It's society's responsibility to provide you that opportunity.
- Apple is good. We collect a lot of data, it keeps us so busy! In fact so busy we're done innovating. Our datacenters aren't running CAD programs to design new stuff, they're just watching everything you're doing!
- My bonus is mine! I love my jet! And you all should feel guilty for your brothers and sisters.
- The iPhone X is really good! Go buy it and hold it tight! I know it's slippery and it'll crack just by even looking at the ground, but that's your problem. I've got your cash and your information!
- I wish I could crack music! I mean I paid tons of cash for a mediocre headphone company and it just frustrates the heck out of me. Please subscribe! Please!
- Learn to code. Swift only.
- Live your dream! After all, I'm living your dream, and it's all mine! But I appear sensitive so that's all that matters.

I just can't stand Tim Cook's speaking style... Long, drawn out, often sounds like he's whispering outloud, just the general tone doesn't sit with me.

You’re not alone, and with good reason - he’s objectively a terrible public speaker; one of the worst I’ve ever heard. Not helped by that southern drawl but more annoying because he speaks with such an air of arrogance and with such faux emotiveness that’s not genuine even in the slightest.

A southern accent sounds great from someone who’s warm, open and funny, but Tim Cook is none of these things - not even close. He’s as dry as the Atacama and as soulless as a robot designed by a robot!

I like Apple products, I just wish the company had a CEO who wasn’t such an econocrat snooze-fest. It’s really hurting Apple’s image. Dare I say, he’s turning Apple evil.

Sample Tim Cook commencement speech:

"I want to ask you why ZipZilla's debit card has been in its holster for 2 years while Apple refuses to release a new Mac Mini for almost 4 years and a new iPhone with an ugly notch no one wants?"

Exactly. All these Tim Cook haters who just don't understand, like COME ON, it's not like he has a company to run....
Has anyone noticed Tim has the habit all the time, again and again starting a sentence with:

"I couldn't be more"

I couldn't be more excitied
I couldn't be more happier

etc etc.....
He's never said, "I couldn't be more happier" because he understand English. One of the biggest jobs of a CEO is cheerleading. Have you ever worked in a large corporation? CEOs are prepped by public relations people and even have a framework of a script. These messages are calculated.

Having been thought a few graduations I can't remember the words of one single commencement speaker -- and some were big gets for the time. No one remembers these things. Speakers are a status symbol for school and speaker, and once it's it the can it's on to the next. Heck, I remember concerts better. Funny how people get so emotional about what is the equivalent to the clock striking 12pm. I mean, yes, high profile people typically give commencement speeches. They give speeches year round.

Bolded in your post, which is not accurate. I think it depends on the individual and how influential somebody can be pending the speech that's given from the guest speaker. I agree that some can't remember everything from the speech, but I would also be willing to believe how close Someone was paying attention and does the speech have parts that relates to them in their chosen field and how they move forward.

Instead of developing useless animojis, why doesn't Apple focus on upgrading the entire line of computers that are way overdue??

Agreed, like "I couldn't be more unable to genuinely smile, just look at the anguish in my corporate headshot."

The comedian Tim Minchin gave a pretty stonking one:

That's probably because his horizons are too limited.

David Foster Wallace at Kenyon College, for one. JFK at American University is another that comes to mind. There are plenty of great commencement addresses. The truly great ones are just rare.

OK I don’t mind Animoji but man this was cringeworthy.

It wasn't about the Animoji, but about the technology that Apple is bringing to the world. You need to see past the surface.
[doublepost=1516573826][/doublepost]Is it me, or was Tim's Animoji having trouble following his facial gestures? It almost seem like it was stuttering.

He needs to just say: "I couldn't even!"

The animosity seemed like they were missing and misreading facial movements... or maybe they were working as expected. Dunno, but they didn't look as polished as the commercials.

Yeah i am surprised they look that bad. Looks like beta at best. This whole thing with the cringe worthy Keynote and now seeing the final product... it would make a good Silicon Valley episode :D

I'm starting to feel a little saturated with emojis or animojis in the press/websites/oficial videos/etc

Duke University today announced that Apple CEO Tim Cook will deliver the 2018 commencement address on May 13 in Wallace Wade Stadium on the university's campus in Durham, North Carolina. Cook earned an MBA from Duke's Fuqua School of Business in 1988 and has served on the university's Board of Trustees since 2015.As part of today's announcement, Duke included a brief video revealing its commencement speaker selection using Animoji, with Cook making an appearance as the fox.

In addition to this year's upcoming appearance at Duke, Cook has delivered a number of other commencement addresses in recent years, including at his undergraduate alma mater Auburn University in 2010, at George Washington University in 2015, and at Massachusetts Institute of Technology last year.
