I completely agree with you, Apple seems to be getting rather OCD about shaving off another 0.Xmm just for the sake of it, which is completely unnecessary on a desktop. When was the last time you heard anyone say "I wish my iMac was thinner"...?

It's pretty ridiculous too that they have to use an expensive and slower mobile CPU and GPU just so they can save a few millimetres... I'm pretty sure they wouldn't loose any sales by having perhaps an internal PCI slot with the GPU in, which would have fitted in the older aluminium design no problem. How about user-upgradable RAM too? What happened to that?

Yes, I'd have been happy with a faster version of the previous iMac.
The thickness is completely irrelevant to me and an optical drive would
still be useful. I've ordered a Mini and an external optical drive instead (so Apple
have lost some income) and am keeping my 2011 imac to soldier on at work for the foreseeable future.

The problem I have with Apple's thin obsession is that it's applied to every product without consideration of whether it offers any practical benefits. A thin laptop is more usable and practical for many people. A thinner iMac has no practical benefits and in fact the thinness cannot even be perceived when using it. In an iMac the thin design actually reduces practicality and usefulness. It means slower and more expensive components. It means users have contort themselves in reaching around to plug in USB devices. It means less accessable internal storage.

For me it looks slightly nicer than my old 2011 iMac but if they had the old design with an upgraded guts then it would have looked just as beautiful. IMHO the price paid for a thiner profile definitely do not off set the possible costs when it comes to maintenance long term. IMHO it seems that there are designers at Apple who want to justify their reason for existing - can't Apple deploy these designers elsewhere so then they don't end up dreaming up dumb ideas when they're bored?

Tim Cook is a pathetic leader and an idiot.
Oh really? And what multibillion dollar company do you run and manage? It must be massive seeing as how you are so quick to judge and criticise.

Then tell him directly. What's the point of venting your spleen here? We can't do anything for you and Tim Cook surely is not reading.

How long ago was Maps released? Why are people still complaining about Maps? It's not even a big deal. Don't like it, download one of the other billion map applications.

It is a big deal, due to Apple being so locked down, Maps takes over all your maps links you get... unless you're lucky and have an App like 'Around Me' which allows to the choice of Google or Apple Maps, Somehow

To you maybe, I've not had a problem with apple maps and I'm not sure what your argument is seeing as you have a solution for it. Have you thought that maybe some like a closed wall garden as it amounts to a better user experience in our own personal opinion? ;)

Apple, rightly or wrongly, tried to give us a better maps product than google maps at the time. Google Maps at the time was awful and therefore pushed google to make a better app as a result. :)

But thanks for the solution should any of us need it. ;)

Really? Hmmm...
Let me guess! Am assuming you paid your £ with zero imperfection for an iPhone (or other iOS device for that matter) which possibly too had zero imperfection and if it had more then zero you had the option to send it back and get refund as an unhappy costumer. Now if you are referring to a Apple Maps for which you paid zero £ with zero imperfection you had an option to use different Maps app from the app store if you didn't like it. Or use web version of the "perfect" Google maps. Or not buy the phone at all. Or still send it back and in return get your perfect £ you paid. It's not like Apple forced you to give them your perfect pound notes.

Would you give the same latitude to, say, an airline?
