I've grown weary of this smug, pontificating buffoon. I hope this salary is the last he'll get, and Apple will promptly change management.
They've been incredibly profitable under his leadership, why would they fire a successful CEO who has increased profits, marketshare?

I may not be a fan of him, but using the metrics that business people use to measure success/failure. He's been an unabashed success.

This is true, but unless they make the decision to start innovating like they have done so in the past then it will be short lived.

Angela made $23 million for what? Turning Apple into a fashion company? The watch that isn't selling as well?

Don't forget where it all started. Apple is a computer company, not a fashion brand. The two will not converge once computing power gathers pace again.

He's been a terrible CEO. Seems like a nice and caring guy. But absolutely a terrible CEO. And before people start posting stats the stock price is virtually unchanged.
Terrible CEO based on what exactly? What is it you think a CEO is supposed to do? No snark, genuine question. Not saying you are, but a lot of people on this forum seem to be confused about what the function of CEO encompasses.

Tim: Hey you guys, got my bonus !!
Phil: So what, what raise did I get this year ?
Tim: We spoiled all product launches. Almost killed customer satisfaction. But I still made 8.7 million !
Angela: That's crazy. Gee, what a hoot. It's really peanuts ! Only when signing, I got 25 !
Tim: But that's a one time fee. You can't live very long on that
Angela: Well, Chinese Foxconn workers have to work 2.000.000.000 hours to earn it. They'd hardly have time left to spend it. And I don't care for money anyway. I got it offered, and I didn't want to embarass anybody.
Tim: If you don't care about money, why don't you give something to me ?
Angela: Because sou said you didn't care for money either. And you don't have an expensive housewife to feed.
Tim: Well, do you ? But I do have a nephew that needs to go to college.
Angela: Let's kill the Mac division first. That saves more money than we can imagine. There will hardly be targets left to be missed and I don't like computers anyway.
Tim: Neither do I. So there is hardly a market for computers. Let's kill it. Don't tell Greg though.
Pfeeuhh, this feels good. I made such an important decision for the environment today.
Oooaaah - I'm soo excited..! I have safeguarded my 2017 bonus !!

If you read the whole article, it looks like Tim gets paid a lot less than other executives at Apple. So many angry people in here just posting negativity anytime his name comes up. He does not need to tie his salary so much to incentives, and I bet his 3 million base is significantly lower than other, much less successful CEO's.
His salary is peanuts compared to his stock package -- a sweet deal he re-negotiated with the board shortly after SJ's death. Please don't feel sorry for him, he deserves no sympathy.

That's true. I would say, though, that most of the profit that's been made has been due to stuff Jobs put into motion. The only truly new product has been the watch, which is more of an iPhone accessory at this point. So Apple is going to have to start thinking about where they're going rather than where they've been. It's been a sad couple of years to be jealous of the innovation happening on other platforms.

I won't disagree with you.

I think Cook is an excellent manager, that is doing a job at over seeing the existing product lines to maximize profit. I think he lacks the fire and innovative spirit that Jobs had that made Apple the powerhouse it is today. Jobs was also such a strong personality he could easily push back on others in Apple when he didn't like something. I see that lacking in Cook and so I think some of the design choices being made are a result of other strong people enforcing their will.

I wonder what it feels like to know that your staff made 3 times what you made. It cant be a happy feeling even if you made a 8 million.

Indeed, we can tout that initial profit (propelled by the blockbuster success of iPhone 6) as a good thing. May I remind you that Steve Ballmer also had record setting profits for years before his poor decisions finally caught up and blasted Microsoft. Apple is reaching the same tipping point. During 2016, all product sales went down, the first time I have known that to be the case.

It's not enough to prattle about "the strongest pipeline ever" when half of it is outdated, and the other half is a tepid upgrade that doesn't even bother to look different. Tim is a nice charitable public figure, but Apple's alleged deep bench doesn't come even close to replacing or upholding Jobs' ideas and obsession with design.

Because it's a bad metric to use. All Apple products are in limbo under him. Where is that passion for good products and experience? I only see obsession with thinness and making of unreasonable sacrifices in products.
