I bought one 2 weeks ago and it was still in stock.

Can't really see what an update of the TimeCapsule would provide me that I don't already have in the current model besides a better airventilated design ofcourse ;-)

How about the hosting of one's iTunes library for home sharing (specifically with the ATV)???

My TC died 1 hour before the keynote

Turns out I had a Time capsule from that series that suddenly dies... (http://timecapsuledead.org/). Had a hoped I could directly get a new gen replacement... A bit optimist I recon :) but I'll wait a couple of weeks just in case...
I just checked many online apple stores... They all dispatch TCs in 24 hours.. Does not look like there is a shortage...

I'm hoping for a 2011 AEBS hopefully running iOS 5. TC is a bit too pricey for me and all I need is to be able to use my 2TB external drive over wifi as a network drive.

Either:

1) TimeCapsule with dual drives, RAID 1 or equivalent, hot swappable and user-serviceable, rebuilds automatically.

or

2) Full support on a new Airport base station for connecting to external drives in any configuration through USB 3 and/or Thunderbolt.

I'd happily go for either solution.

Seems pointless in using raid in a TC, it will only make it more expensive and give you nothing in return. Since Apple wouldn't let you swap drives anyway there's no point what so ever in running e.g. raid 1. If the power supply or some other electronics die, what do you do then? Break inside TC, remove the drives and buy a new TC and hope for the best? Makes no sense to me what so ever.

No thanks, no raid and no waste of money and no waste of space.
Important files should be saved on more than one backup device anyhow.

Update due?

Just a note that the TC 1/2GB models are both showing 1-2 weeks delivery on the UK store at least.

Could it be?

I sure hope a new model will be released soon; supplies seem to be dwindling everywhere. Mine is more than 3 years old, and it's starting to "misbehave" a little.

If Apple would come to their senses and provide RAID1 and hot-swappable hard drives that would make the TimeCapsule itself much more reliable.

Running backups onto todays TimeCapsule spotting only a single hard drive is just silly as there is nothing you could do if your drive goes loopy.

Hopefully the next generation TimeCapsule comes with an integrated solutions for mirroring your data into the cloud (iCloud) or they should really add RAID1 capabilities. Best would be getting both.

iCould could get expensive though with large backup sets.

I would like a solution to backup photos with near certainty they are safe.
Thunderbolt SSD array would be nice but a bit pricey! Let's wait and see what the new TC provides...

Again, you don't need RAID-1 for something that's already a backup target. If your TC drive fails - you still have original copy of your data on your Mac elsewhere.

TC uses full size 3.5" drives - putting 2 drives into TC would nearly DOUBLE it in size (as well as power consumption and noise). No thanks! And hot swappable drives? You must be dreaming.

Nothing is going to mirror 2TB of your data into the Cloud. You will get 5GB of space free, and maybe an upgrade to 20GB for a hefty price. You need to have your own local backup strategy for large data sets.

I went to the Apple store in Aventura, Florida and asked them if they had Time Capsule and the guy thought they did but he went in the back and they didn't. They had a lot of Airport Extremes and Airport Expresses. I also checked the availability of TCs on the Best Buy website and almost all of them are out. They do have stock of the Airport Extreme and Airport Express, though.

I think what this means is that a new TC is coming out soon. Especially with more references to it in the newest Airport Utility update (as well as references to a new Airport Extreme). There seem to be many more Airport Extremes and Airport Expresses than TCs.

Well let's get the show on the road here. If they can make a TC that works and won't break in two years, I'm ready to buy. But last model was flawed (I owned one which I bought as an "open box special" and (a) never got the back up drive to actually work, (b) it dropped connections a bit, and (c) it lost power about three weeks ago and is now a paperweight. I'm not buying the current generation TC again, but am willing to roll the dice with a next generation model.

Sorry, but it really doesn't. It just means a store is low on stock, which is not all that unusual. Apple online store shows 24-hour ship availability on both 1TB and 2TB TCs.

This doesn't mean imminent update either. Those same references have been in the previous version of Airport Utility, which had been out for almost a year.
