Looking at your photo it's hard to get an perspective on it's size. End of the day it's your call, however if you've got a "perfect" display (no yellow, no dead pixels) then you should bear that in mind as they're going to be a whole lot more irritating.
I'm aware of that, and there really are no other problems with it. But yeah, it really is very tiny. It's completely impossible to spot when you're not sitting directly in front of it, in good lighting conditions... I'll call Apple later today anyway just to hear what they have to say.

I'd listen to the others man, it's maybe a little disappointing, but I guarantee you'll be far more disappointed when you get a cosmetically perfect iMac with a screen than looks like someone's bathed it in Earl Grey.

This is not a good statement for the quality control behind apple products...

I hate to say this but... It's your call. ;)

Just don't forget that if you send it back, the next one might have something too (like a bigger yellow-screen problem for example). So worst case scenario, if you send it back, you might want to be ready to go through a send and replace routine. But then again, maybe not. Maybe the next one will be pristine.

In the end, I think you should be happy with your decision, whatever that decision is.

Keep it. You'll be pissed if you get one that has a yellow screen, dead pixels, growling hard drive, or worse.

On my new iMac there are some bubbles in the glass screen cover along its very outer edge -- nowhere near the actual active portion of the display. I only noticed these bubbles as I was using a flashlight to clean the shipping residue off of the screen.

No, I'm not happy about the bubbles, but my computer is otherwise perfect -- it has a fantastic, even screen (much, MUCH better than my '09 27" iMac), no dead pixels, and it's screaming fast. I figure I'll just buy a replacement glass screen for $100 or so in a year or two once this one gets some dust underneath it -- since it'd require removal at that time anyway to clean the backside of the screen, I'll simply replace it at the same time. It's a trivial matter to replace the front glass (I even have the suction cups), so I'll take this defect gladly if my computer is otherwise perfect.

Ok guys, I just came back home and had another look at it... and... it's really just nothing... I mean, there's just no way that Apple would replace the entire machine just because of this tiny fault.

I took two more pictures, this time in clear light, just to give you an idea :)

Here it's totally invisible (I had to use the flash, the picture would have been too grainy otherwise

You can barely see it as a dark "smudge" here

I would feel embarrassed to point this out, so I'm going to keep it. I'm really happy with the machine and I feel that we've already "bonded" anyway :) Also, everything else is in perfect condition. No dead pixels etc.

BUT, I will still call Apple, just to see what they have to say. In fact I'll call them right now :)

EDIT: The guy at Apple said that it is covered by my warranty. It didn't seem to matter how small the damage was. Still, I'm not going to bother with it, I don't want to risk getting a computer with other faults.

Thanks for all your replies.

Hi Henrik85, looking at your new photos I think you're right in not pursuing it. I totally understand where you are coming from as I'm Mr Anal when it comes to such things but in this case a good screen, no yellowing, no dead pixels all out weigh this very slight blemish. After a few days you'll forget it is even there.

Enjoy your new iMac:D:D

What did you end up doing in the end? Settle on number 4?

I sent them all back Tim. I'm sticking with the MacBook Pro until they sort out the QC on their end. I can use a u2711 in the mean time, the only bummer is that it's AG coated, which I despise.

I wouldn't say I was anal-retentive particularly, but I don't like beard hair/eyelashes under glass in a new £2000 computer, I also dislike dead-pixels. Either I am one of the unluckiest people to ever own an iMac, or something is quite clearly wrong with the way that they're put together.

I ask because i had 2 iMacs and sent them back, got a refund in the end. I might try again in July but if it goes the same way as the previous 2 then i will look for alternatives. Either MacBook pro or a PC with with a U2711. How is the screen on those by the way? Besides the coating, as good as an iMac, no flaws or tints, good even backlight etc? Thanks.

nice camera.... that dent looks awful.if its smaller than it looks apple wont replace it.

How in the world did you find that? Jesus.

easy to imagine how ..he was likely cleaning his iMac and that tiny smudge did not come off so he noticed its not a smudge its a tiny dent

i too would not bother as its a really microscopic dent

one of my iMac G3 has a tiny chip direct in the middle of it's crt display and its about half the size of a pixel
the previous owner was so kind to point it out on his ebay listing , and nobody did bid even after it was relisted 3 times , i felt so sorry for that little snow white iMac G3 600mhz , i just had to bid on it to rescue the little bugger from the dump and i cant even photograph that chip as its to tiny even for a 10mp camera , and i really would have to point it out otherwise nobody would ever see it

They're great screens, particularly if you manage to get an A06 revision, the coating is fine, I'd just much prefer a glossy screen. I haven't spotted any problems on the two of these screens I've seen, which leads me to believe that the iMacs screen issues are backlight related.

U2711 uses CCFL vs the iMac's white LEDs. Only real benefit of LEDs is the reduced power consumption and potential for space saving, overall, the u2711 is the better screen, technically speaking. I've scoured google for yellow u2711 threads, and couldn't find any.

Thanks for the new pics. Now that I've seen it, I can't get it out of my head. Send it back straight away!

Henrik - i have OCD and am very anal about my tech gear. I check them for marks and scratches and dings. Do the same with my tennis and golf gear - BUT in this case I think you should look at the bright side.

No and I repeat no iMac is perfect from the inside to the outside - ok, maybe mr. Jobs iMac is - but seriously go out with your wife/gf and get yourself a couple of dark special beers or a couple of glasses of red wine and forget about this.

It's no big deal !!!

Is apples quality control really that bad then that so many of you guys have had to send numerous devices back? I didnt realise they had so many problems that its common to need to go through multiple imacs before getting a perfect one. For the amount of money id expect all but a tiny amount to be perfect

It is on iMacs, which is a shame because they're beautiful computers. They're just flawed in a way that can't be resolved until the next iteration.

That's interesting about you saying the screen is better than your 2009 one - how is it better?

Ok cool, thanks for the info!

I would not send it back but I would give apple a ring; they mite compensate you, even if its small defect.

If i paid over £1000 for something i would not expect it to come damaged.
