My brain is amazed by all of the negative comments. Is this really the state of things in the world now?

Come on people. This is genius, extends the life of existing hardware, and that intro video – so nostalgic! Love it!!
so, you are essentially using your AW in a rubbery/plastic case that has a mechanical inside that lets you use a scroll wheel (a la iPod) and basically turns the crown ... you could achieve the same result by just using the AW bare as is ...

"Shipping this Summer" and "Shipping this Fall". Purchase at your own risk. I'm more than 50% sure this won't ship in 2024.

I'm impressed with the concept and the execution. It's the utility that doesn't move me. My wife and I already have two iPod Touches, and at least 4 iPod Nanos just gathering dust in a drawer. When I look in my crystal ball, I see an old Apple Watch in a $80 case gathering dust in the same drawer. Yeah, a tiny phone (with the GPS watch) might be nice for athletic endeavors, but I already have a 2020 iPhone SE for that, and it's just fine. Fits sideways in a cycling jersey pocket, and doesn't fall out when hitting a bump.

I'm getting the "solution in search of a problem" vibes from this, kind of like with the Rabbit R1 and the Humane Pin... at least the underlying Apple Watch is a genuinely good product, even if this case seems kind of bizarre. 😅

watch hardware that is purposely not being used on the wrist.

Correct
Well, I actually have 3 watches and have not used my S4SBSS for like 2 years (it’s pristine and I have upgraded it a few times), so from that perspective I might be a target buyer. However, I switch between the other 2 watches and have a watch in my wrist 24x7, so there is nothing this thing would do for me in m hand what I could not also do on my wrist…
Of course we’re all different, and as I said, hope to see some reviews here from real people

One of my thoughts/hopes with my first Apple watch was that I would be able to use it as an iPod on my wrist. I was wrong about that, since Apple inexplicably limits the amount of space one can store music locally on the watch, which is 5 gb. What was worse is that I had to go looking for the explanation (?) for the reason why so much of the music I wanted synced on my watch kept getting offloaded/deleted. When I learned the workaround was making a master playlist that could exceed 5 gb I knew I had hit my breaking point with Apple and their need to control how I use my device. Maybe/hopefully Apple has reversed course on the 5 gb limit with the latest watchOS, but I gave up over 4 years ago and haven’t bothered since. It’s still nice to have Apple Pay and notifications on my wrist, but I don’t bother upgrading anymore. What’s the point of having 64 (32 for me) gb of storage when Apple capriciously dictates how the owner can use it?
