Nothing, absolutely nothing of this sort comes even close to an iPod. iPod is iPod, get an iPod if you want an iPod. I love my iPod and use is way more than my iPhone. Having an offline device of this quality these days is precious.

If you have an old Apple Watch and you're not sure what to do with it, a new product called TinyPod might be the answer. Priced at $79, the TinyPod is a silicone case with a built-in scroll wheel that houses the Apple Watch chassis.

When an Apple Watch is placed inside the TinyPod, the click wheel on the case is able to be used to scroll through the Apple Watch interface. The feature works through "carefully mechanized components" that make direct contact with the Digital Crown on Apple Watch.

The TinyPod website suggests that a cellular version of the Apple Watch could be placed inside the TinyPod and used as a miniature phone, without the need to carry an iPhone. The case leaves the back of the Apple Watch exposed, but it is worth noting that actually using an Apple Watch this way would be frustrating because it uses skin contact for authentication.

If the TinyPod were tucked away in a pocket, the Apple Watch would need to be unlocked with a passcode every time it was used, since there is no Face ID or Touch Id. The alternative would be leaving the watch unlocked without a passcode, but that's not particularly secure.

Using TinyPod requires turning off wrist detection, which is the feature that keeps the Apple Watch unlocked with skin contact. TinyPod positions this as a bonus that allows for longer multi-day battery life, but at the same time highlights Apple Pay and Name Drop, features that would require authentication via passcode. With the back of the Apple Watch exposed, charging can be done with a standard Apple Watch charging puck.

TinyPod is available in 40/41mm, 44/45mm, and 49mm sizes to fit all Apple Watch models. It is compatible with the Series 4 and later, as well as the Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Ultra.

TinyPod's creators introduced it earlier this year, but the device is now available for purchase. It can be ordered from the TinyPod website for $80, with a lite model that does not feature a click wheel available for $30.

Now imagine this is also a battery case and Apple Intelligence had gotten so good it rarely made a mistake and Siri could give you great answers verbally and send and read messages with issue by talking and listening to you, and a cellular one of these is in your pocket to replace your phone (and your wrist worn smartwatch) in many settings so you can leave your phone at home and aren’t so distracted all the time by a giant life-sucking screen.

iPhone mini mafia, here ya go!
One of the main issues with iPhone mini was its name. Many assume it as smaller than it is. They should bring it back as slightly larger at 5.6” … drop the mini name and call the two large phone sizes Plus and Max … they are getting big enough to justify both names respectively. And drop the numbering:

iPhone (5.6”)
iPhone Plus (6.2”+)
iPhone Max (6.8”+)

While the video ad is really well made, they didn't mention that what they're selling is just the case and not the watch.

Sure, the people here are all tech-savvy and we know this at a glance, but someone who's not familiar with tech might see it and think it's a fully-featured product and not realise they need to separately purchase an Apple Watch to go with it.

hmmm
But why should I use this if I can put the watch on my wrist? 🤔
Important to note that this wasn’t posted in the Apple Watch section of the MacRumors forums. Not every Apple user wants to wear a watch (smartwatch or otherwise). Some people just want a small device that connects to the internet.

I’m not saying that this is going to be a big seller. But there could be a small niche (but even a normal-sized niche… a small niche, lol) of people who might want something like this.

This reminds me that I was one of those people who actually bought the watchband case to put that tiny iPod Nano on my wrist, years ago! I look back and laugh now. :) This concept shows Apple that they in fact already have a really simplified phone with no addictive apps, if they were ever inclined to do so (my take: never). All it would need is face ID or touch ID access. But really, we have the same functionality and convenience of it being on our wrists already, which also gives us the health tracking that we would lose if we put the watch in an external case. It’s an intriguing idea for use of an old watch when upgrading. But…. then again you have a new watch on your wrist.

Seems like a solution in search of a problem. And a major case of "because we can", vs. "because we should". I don't know.

It's ADORABLE but it doesn't add anything to the watch that it doesn't have - and their web site is light on information like "how does this work" and "support" - it's just a very VERY slick website for a very VERY cute device. At the end of scrolling through it though, it just reminded me that my watch works like a phone and I don't need my iPhone with me every time I leave the house.
