Adding physical control of camera functions is a separate issue and is very sensible.

That camera bar design means more opportunity to accidentally cover sensors or lenses with fingers.
The action button is more than worthless to me. I accidentally press it instead of volume up.

Yes, but... brand XYZ has made a more powerful camera, so in the mind of the fan who every year wants to have the highest specced camera phone AND wants it to be an iPhone, this is a tragedy.
Yet those of us who use the iPhone Pro's camera seriously every day look forward to "all these camera upgrades..." Given the tiny size of the lenses TBH I am amazed by each new iPhone Pro's camera capabilities.

Hmmm, I could also believe that they are merely moving the camera control to the most ergonomic position.
I have been amazed by the captures from such tiny lenses for years now. The phone captures seem to go beyond camera physics.We're quickly approaching physics limits, so they probably should add more lenses

They are are all fixed lenses. Just cropping between the physical ratios. That’s the reason why most smartphone photos look like … smartphone photos.

Burning someone like that is going to hurt MacRumors long term.
No, it’s the main reasons IMO most smartphone photos look like smartphone photos is bad lighting and too much depth of field. And because they’re snapshots.
7x zoom with 48M Pixel finally gives us some great zoom shots. Getting more excited for my iPhone 19 upgrade in a couple years -- hope it's still affordable
They are fixed lenses but one of them will have 8x optical magnification which helps for some uses. I think most people acknowledge that a good DSLR camera is better but who has one with them all the time.
True, but a modern smartphone crop is not just a crop … all the computational photography wizardry makes them look a lot better than ye olde digicam crops. That‘s why Apple‘s „fusion camera“ moniker is, of course, a marketing term, but with a lot of technology to back it up.
