Adding physical control of camera functions is a separate issue and is very sensible.Isn't it fascinating that we've gone from "Apple wants to get rid of all buttons from all of their phones" to them adding a new button each year?

Photographers realize that on-phone camera controls are not "adding useless buttons."Apple has started adding useless buttons starting with the action button on the 15 Pro, only because there's nearly nothing else new newer iPhones offer.
Agreed, A good thing. These days smartphones are effectively cameras with some connectivity features. 😕
Tim Apple, making the unnecessary, unnecessary...An additional camera control button? sounds unnecessary
False! Each year, Apple releases the best-in-class camera in the ALL NEW iPhone Pro series. And, each year, the best-in-class camera system features game-changing features that take photography to a whole new level. With the iPhone 17 Pro series, Apple will introduce the best-in-class video capture device, that will truly change the game of mobile video recording. Apple can't wait to see the incredible videos customers are able to produce. Apple thinks you're gonna love it. Now here's some videos shot with the ALL NEW iPhone 17 Pro series, featuring the game-changing, best-in-class video capture system! Not only that, but the difference in picture quality YOY isn't impressive at all imo. I think that macro shots was the last big camera feature that really made an impact on pictures I take.
The action button is more than worthless to me. I accidentally press it instead of volume up.
The young people don’t answer phone calls or listen to voicemail, so is it really a phone at all? These days smartphones are effectively cameras with some connectivity features. 😕
Yes, but... brand XYZ has made a more powerful camera, so in the mind of the fan who every year wants to have the highest specced camera phone AND wants it to be an iPhone, this is a tragedy. If people just bought phones once every 5+ years, the camera improvements would feel bigger.
Yet those of us who use the iPhone Pro's camera seriously every day look forward to "all these camera upgrades..." Given the tiny size of the lenses TBH I am amazed by each new iPhone Pro's camera capabilities.Man I'm so tired of all these camera upgrades...
Hmmm, I could also believe that they are merely moving the camera control to the most ergonomic position.Adding physical control of camera functions is a separate issue and is very sensible.
I have been amazed by the captures from such tiny lenses for years now. The phone captures seem to go beyond camera physics. We're quickly approaching physics limits, so they probably should add more lenses![]()
Why would you mention the add agency? Unnecessary and most likely will terminate their contract with Apple.
No, it’s the main reasons IMO most smartphone photos look like smartphone photos is bad lighting and too much depth of field. And because they’re snapshots.A crop is a crop and not a „zoom“.
and what people here call „zooms“ are not optical zooms like on DSLRs etc.
They are are all fixed lenses. Just cropping between the physical ratios. That’s the reason why most smartphone photos look like … smartphone photos.
They are fixed lenses but one of them will have 8x optical magnification which helps for some uses. I think most people acknowledge that a good DSLR camera is better but who has one with them all the time.A crop is a crop and not a „zoom“.
