I personally use the following jailbreak tweaks with no performance issues whatsoever:
- adblocker
- ccsettings
- springtomize 3
- biteSMS
- ifile
- gaming emulators

I sure do luv me some jailbreak :D

Aww that sucks. Not really worried too much because I recently built an arcade that plays all those game system anyways but maaaan.

Yep, sucks that they are closing the reverse date trick to install gaming emulators with 8.1 but at least there's still great emulators via jailbreak :D

p.s. if the emulator is already installed on your device before 8.1 and you just update later on you should be fine.

My point exactly, thank you. That's fine if people choose not to jailbreak, but to deny that there are objective advantages is being dishonest. Saying one doesn't care enough to mess with it is also perfectly fine, but that's not what I'm getting here.

I don't think you understand the difference between objective and subjective.

It is objective to say 7 is more than 3. It is subjective to say that swiping is better than pushing the home button.

You asked a question, you got several answers, they aren't good enough for you, move on.

These shortcuts/ enhancements cannot be denied.

Consider them denied. There is not a single tweak on your list that is worth the 30 minutes it would take me to jailbreak, load Cydia, install, etc.

Being able to update right away is also a big deal, both for new features and for security. I used to jailbreak, but then Apple started adding all the features I used to jailbreak for, like Control Center. Now I don't want to take the hit on battery life, risk the instability, or lose the ability to update.

Not everyone has to like what you like, bud. Get used to it. We don't have to validate your choices in order for it to be right FOR YOU!

Don't flatter yourself

I don't care what a dishonest and unethical person thinks of my opinion.

People like you and your dishonest breatheren on Wall Street and big business are screwing up this country.
Wow. You don't even know me and you cast aspersions at me. Despite the fact I've never said one word in anger to you and have not made this personal in any way.

Think what you wish about who or what I am and I will say good day to you sir.

Reasons I don't jailbreak.

1) Higher security risk. Any app you download that is not downloaded from iTunes has not been approved by Apple, ie it has not passed Apple's security checks.

2) Saw a bloke on youtube showing us his JB phone and all the apps you can get and his phone was full of JB apps with skeletons/skulls on it. No thanks.

3) Lesser IOS experience.

4) Warranty loss.

5) My mate who is JB'n told me it can destroy your phone during the JB set up process. Whether that is true or not, if someone tells you there's sharks in the water, you don't go in the water.

6) By all reports, IOS is bridging the gap with JB os.

7) If I wanted more control over my phone, I would go to the plethora of andrfoid devices that exist.

8) Nothing you told me OP made me say wow.

Hope that clears things up OP.

Jailbreak literally breaks the security model. I realize that's the whole point, being able to install any app and have full file system access, but I don't like the implications for key loggers, spyware or other potential security exploits.

Would rather just play it safe.

JBs offer nothing I need except git but I can live without that. Everything else I need is available in stock iOS or through legit apps.

Plus I trust the jb repo apps less than the App Store apps.

Don't worry, I work in healthcare and see this sort of thing from certain people all the time when they stop taking their lithium ;)

Glad to see you took the high road from such an obvious bait post.

Some reasons I stopped...

1. Themes. If I found a cool theme, I'd find icons for a bunch of my apps, but never all of them. Got tired of the phone looking mismatched, and tired of having to reapply icons after every update.

2. Updates. Got tired of waiting to be able to do Apple updates.

3. Security. How do I know that cool new Cydia app hasn't side loaded a key logger?

4. The tweaking K hole. I spent far too much time looking for apps, icons, themes, tweaks, then customizing them, then starting all over when my phone locked up and required a restore, which, if you jailbreak and are a tweak fiend, is not a matter of if, but when. Life is short. The vanilla OS does plenty and it's good enough for me.

I guess we haven't met yet, my names Hal~9000, pleasure to make you acquaintance ;):p:D

I'd also like to challenge that.

I've won several awards for negativity. I've hated every one, and they suck, but I still won.

I guess I've never felt there were things I needed in a jailbreak. I download a minimum amount of apps, and the majority (99%) of the apps I use are free.

1. Maybe back in 2009-2010 that was a problem. Not anymore.

2. That's called themes. You can make your icons however you want. You want red skulls. No problem. Pink unicorns? No problem.

3. Less iOS experience? Jail breaking doesn't decrease your iOS experience in any way? It doesn't uninstall iOS 7 in any way...... You can jailbreak and install a simple tweak like I caught u pro which actually increases your iOS experience.

4. Just restore your phone through iTunes and no trace of a jailbreak will ever be present.

5. That's not true in any way shape or form. Period.

6. No it's not. iOS 8 is doing a bad job at copying what jail breaking has done for the last 5 years.

7. Why not stay with iOS and have control over your phone by jail breaking?

8. The OP told you probably 7 tweaks out of over 50,000.

People don't like jail breaking because either they are scared too or are happy enough with apple iOS experience with no jail break. Perfectly fine if they choose so.

Many reasons here they are in no order.

I like stuff to work
I want to keep my warranty
I like to run the latest software
I like to run the software as intended by Apple
I don't want to deal with any ****.
I think thats pretty much the list

"I like to run the latest software" is the only reason that makes sense.

All your other reasons are not very strong in my opinion.

My phone has tons of tweaks and it works perfectly fine. I don't deal with any **** on my phone.

My phone gets stolen? They can't turn it off. What about yours? Apples software is buggy and weak. It's like they lock you in jail for buying an iPhone. Can't even change the dock. Mind. Boggling.

My dad got his first iPhone last year at 60 years old. First thing he asked me was how do I change this ugly dock. It was his very first smartphone ever.

I understand and completely respect your opinion. Not trying to change your mind either.

So you don't like searching for tweaks? Guess searching for apps in the App Store is troublesome too huh?

Phone crashes? Hmm mine has crashed once since February.

I have 32 tweaks and winterboard with all my icons made in Photoshop by me.

The App Store seems to work quite well does it not? Featured section. Top charts. I never need to go through my list of apps and see which one is causing a problem. And if my phone stops working I can walk in to Apple and get it replaced on the spot no problems

Back in the 3GS/4 days I would jailbreak for:

-Quick Reply
-SBSettings
-Cracked Apps
-MyWi
-Winterboard

Later on around iOS 6 came Movie Box and Music Box.

Now with iOS 7 and 8 either Apple has implemented some of those features and the others I don't need and aren't make or break.

Movie and Music Box I can get by registering as a dev so thats taken care of.

I'm also a sucker for wanting the latest software as well.

Tweaks I miss from jailbreaking:

1) The ability to put in a password in order to turn off your phone (great to make sure no one can take your phone and take it off the map)

2) Audio Recorder - I like to record my audio when I talk to companies like AT&T, etc so when their CSRs say something, I can use it as proof if they try to tell me otherwise. I always tell them I will be recording the conversation as well

3) iCaughtU - Just like #1, if someone tries to put in my passcode incorrectly, my phone takes a photo of them and emails me their location and their picture (great for security reasons as well)

4) Intelliscreen X - It's like the current notification center, but it a lot of awesome things you can do

5) Mail Enchancer Pro - Makes the Mail app usable!

6) VideoPane - Like having a picture in picture. Watch a video while you're doing something else on your phone or iPad

7) Push for Gmail - Don't need the gmail app anymore

8) Adblocker - for obvious reasons

9) Apex 2 - great for organizing similar apps (like combining the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL apps together)

There is also a tweak where you can disable various toggles in Control Center (for example: you can disable the ability to toggle on/off airplane mode/WiFi/data from the lockscreen)

If the iOS 8 jailbreak proves to be stable, I will jailbreak.

Remove the sim? Static bag, faraday cage until battery drops?

As I said, remove the sim, then a DFU restore.

I used to love jailbreaking, but like everyone else has said, they grew out of it. I was jailbreaking years ago and di for years...it's old to me now. It's just not something that tickles my fancy anymore. Kinda like going from Kool-Aid to Glenfiddich. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know what I meant but, some day son, some day. Have fun JB'ing!!!

I was jailbreaking before the App Store existed and continued to do so for a while, but I've been running stock most of the time for the last several years. The last few times I used tweaks they caused more problems than they were worth. And I like to be able to upgrade to the latest iOS and also buy iPhones without worrying about jailbreaks.

One jailbreak tweak I really want to use: single-tap touch id as home button (without having to press the actual button down). But I don't want to get stuck waiting for jailbreaks just for that.

Of course I'll happily jailbreak my old devices, especially ones that are no longer receiver iOS updates.

One thing that has already been touched upon here is the security issue. I work for the military where iPhones and iPads are now being used. I have read through the STIGS (Security Technical Implementation Guides) and Apple has been very thorough about keeping the devices secure. Each app is isolated from other apps to avoid security breaches. I talked with the Apple software engineers and they told me that jailbreaking is their worst nightmare. They can't believe people do it and still think their devices are secure.

Oh, and one other thing. If you use Apple Pay and your device is jailbroken you are just asking for trouble.

I don't have enough time on my hands anymore. When I used to JB I pretty much had no responsibilities and could spend hours customising my iPhone with themes and tweaks. Now I don't have that luxury and even if I did I wouldn't want to spend all that time on customising my phone. My biggest vice was themes and finding all the icons for it was just way too time consuming.

And I'm more than satisfied with iOS now that I just don't see the need.

There are countless reasons to Jailbreak, not the least of which is the highly flawed iOS.

While iOS is by far the best option in regards to smartphone software, there are still numerous shortcomings/flaws that Jailbreaking fixes. Here are my top 7 reasons you should be Jailbroken and why I could never go back to stock iOS.

1. SwipeNav - This tweak enables you to swipe left from anywhere in the screen to return to the previous menu/window. Even on the iPhone 4S this made the user experience so much smoother and more efficient, but then with the 5 and now the 6? It's an absolute necessity. You simply can't reach the top half of the screen and reachability helps but it's still an awkward workaround and impedes the otherwise smooth flow of iOS. No, SwipeBack is not the same thing, not even close.

2. DeleteWord - Shift: Delete to delete entire words at a time. Huge enhancement. I feel handicapped not having this feature.

3. Zephyr/Multitasking Gestures - Allows you to swipe up from the bottom to close a window. Enormously faster and more efficient than hitting the Home button every time.

4. Sleipnizer - Allows you assign a variety of R, L, and U gestures to a host of different functions in Safari. I got so used to making a small swipe of my finger to close a tab or open a new one that it is like torture every time I go to use it on my 6 and have to take 3-4 steps to accomplish what I was able to with 1 smooth swipe. One of the cooler functions you can assign is close all tabs but current.

5. OpenTabBG - A function of Sleipnizer, this lets you hold down on a link and automatically opens in a new tab in the background. One, simple step. Stock iOS requires holding down very firmy (low sensitivity) and then carefully selecting "open in background" from a completely unnecessary useless list of other options, one of which, Add to Reading List, directly below it and you constantly accidentally click it. If you are lucky and patient enough to click the right one, it then has a pointless and time consuming animation. This requires anywhere from 2 steps to 5-6 steps.

6. CallBar - Simply replaces intrusive incoming call screen with subtle bar at the top of the screen which you can either swipe to answer or ignore it to ignore and continue browsing.

7. ShaketoUndoKiller/NoSpot - Removes two incredibly annoying and unnecessary features, Shake to undo and Spotlight search, which are activated accidentally far more than they are deliberately.

When I was young and had free time I jail broke my phones and also unlocked my iPhone (way back in 1st gen through 3G).

But I'm older, with a career. No way do I have time to trouble shoot bugs with jailbreaking.

----------

I'm not at all trying to sound condescending, nor am I talking to anyone specifically, but I'll never jailbreak again because I'm not 18 anymore and have much better things to do than to spend what little free time I have ****ing around on a buggy phone when the proprietary hardware is far better and already does more than I could want. Installing a jailbreak is such a faceless, spastic experience, and it shows every day you use it and only gets worse with time.

Here here!

No problem with people jailbreaking but I and most people I know will pass.
