I am a typical pro max user who would probably never buy air. But I know folks who enjoy Air, choices are good. For me battery is the biggest factor, followed by data speed and camera. I couldn’t care much less about speaker though.

When the iPhone Air was announced, there was a lot of noise — people nitpicking, comparing, even asking if Air buyers should feel embarrassed. From the single speaker to its design choices, the criticism came fast.

But here’s the thing: the Air isn’t a compromise. It’s a statement. It’s a beautifully engineered, premium iPhone built for people who value balance — performance, design, and comfort — not just specs on paper.

I was originally going to get the Air myself, but it turned out a bit too wide for how I use my phone day to day, so I went with the iPhone 17 Pro instead. Still, my respect for the Air hasn’t changed one bit.

To all the Air owners out there — ignore the noise. You made a solid, confident choice. You picked what fits your lifestyle, not what fits someone else’s opinion. That’s real tech maturity.

I may have gone Pro, but I’ll always be standing with the Air crew — because real innovation isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about knowing what works for you. 💪📱✨
You think us air owners ever cared what others thought? I have news for you..

Not true, I adore the Air. It's technically impressive and feels great in hand. I also don't find the compromises particularly egregious.
Not every one but I find it hilarious seeing owners of severely compromised iPhone mini taking shots of an Air they don’t own or have used.

If anything, 17 Pro Cosmic Orange owners are the ones who deserve respect for being brave - they paid more than the Air, bought an orange phone and the scratching situation doesn't look too good.

Fair point — though I didn’t mean it like that. It’s not about “complimenting” anyone as if they need validation — more just about supporting people who got unnecessary flak for their choice.

No one got criticized for liking the Air. The criticism was always aimed at the device itself and then later at certain people who kept calling everyone else haters for discussing the features and lackthereof of a device that no one had yet held in their hand.
Basically, certain forum members were up in arms over the fact that a specific device that was being discussed didn't draw universal praise and they somehow found a way to take that personally.

to be fair

everybody i see who has the air loves the device.

You could also say that those who didn't like the Air had already returned theirs so now those that are left are the ones who love the device.

I rolled my eyes at all the rumors about this phone. “Who is this for? Nobody wants this!”

I went to the Apple Store on release day basically to confirm that I wanted the regular 17. I was amazed how much I liked the Air. The regular 17 felt pretty stale by comparison.

I went back several times and closely followed the forums here to see what real world battery life was like. Finally decided to take a chance on it…

I’ve had the Air for a little over a week and am very happy with it so far. The compromises aren’t that big of a deal for me, and I get all day battery life with regular use so far. Charge to 90% and usually end up at around 20% after using the phone too much.

I upgrade every four years or so. The 17 pretty much felt the same as my iPhone 12 (not that there’s anything wrong with that). The Air is actually exciting. I’ll probably have to replace the battery in a couple years, but I really like using it so it’s worth it.

I finally got an Air in my hands the other day at an Apple Store. It did feel very nice and light to hold, and the sheer size of the thing actually makes it feel lighter than you'd expect it to feel. And I could imagine the general thinness making it disappear in my pocket a bit better. But to me, that screen size is also a bit of a negative for one-handed use.

With my 15 Pro held up with my pinkie forming a "shelf" (as one does) I can get my thumb to reach almost to the top of the display and reach most UI elements. But with a screen the size of the Air, there's just no way I'm going to reach the top one-handed. And while the Air is light enough to juggle it a bit in the hand, IMO it's still out of one-handed use territory without really risking dropping it. For me anyway.

Sadly, I think my ideal phone is as thin as the Air, but a bit smaller. And I'm sure that smaller size that would bring even more compromised battery life, so we will not see it. Maybe someday.

Good report. I still haven’t gone to an Apple Store to try one, but I have a feeling I will have the exact same reaction.

I mean, it makes complete sense. Human hands have not changed sizes here and it would be really refreshing if they offered a smaller version of the same concept.

Same. Well, I can probably handle a 1mm thicker phone but probably 6.1-6.3" diagonal screen size tops. Maybe when we have better battery tech actually being used in products.

I used the Air for the full 14-day return period. My eyes like the size of the display but it's just too tall and a bit too wide for my hand.

I completely agree with you.

If you’re referring to the other thread I started, I didn’t ask whether Air owners should be embarrassed. I definitely don’t think they should. I asked whether they feel embarrassed because of all the toxic talk. My post was totally misunderstood.

It’s okay this is the internet where things can be misunderstood or go way out of proportion. It’s all good 🙂

This. How do people not realize the poster is AI?

If you want an easy tell, look for the use of em-dashes. If you see this: “—“ - a very long dash - it’s almost 99% an AI post (or at least, AI assisted post)

Trust me. I am not artificial nor am I an intelligent 🧐. Maybe this is Apple Intelligence who knows.

iPhone mini was feature comprised. Air is lot better. And Air could be first iteration of future Apple devices unlike mini which was dead in the water from launch.

What're you talking about? The Air had every feature the base 12/13 had. Even compared to the Air, it has;

+1 Camera (ultrawide)
+1 Speaker (for stereo)

which make up 2/3 common complaints about the Air. If feature completeness is the benchmark, the Minis come out way ahead!
