I'm starting to doubt we'll see a major redesign - no optical drive. However, they can still add a few very nice features that will make this bump worthwhile.

By no means do i even expect a major redesign. It's more likely Apple will simply refine the current design.

Precisely, he has no proof. It's just as stupid as religious people who insist god exists or atheists who insist he doesn't. There's no concrete proof either way so the most logical position is to say that the Macbooks COULD get a design change.

c'mon there is no need to bring religion into here...

and also no need for derogatory name calling, people believe God exists through faith and testimony on divine intervention in their life that was irony from the result of prayer or some other kind of formal communication to a divine being.

hcho3 - didn't you just get a new 11" mba?

The thing is, all of your posts about the mbps have been to say that mbps will not get a design change, and you say it as if you have concrete evidence that you're right.

My opinion is that there is way too much going on in the rumor mill for this to be a simple spec bump (the 2010 update was much quieter overall). Even if there is no event, it could still be because Jobs is out of commission at the moment. But, this is all my opinion, and nobody really knows. I'm just speculating.

So, if you're not going to have fun like the rest of us, and do some speculating (vs just trying to make everyone lose hope), just stop posting. In the end, all you're doing is trolling because the mbps MIGHT get all the perks of the recent mbas which you incidentqlly just bought.

I said Macbook and macbook pro. Macbook air is not macbook or macbook pro...
Jesus.

........ and a Macbook Air.

Also, regarding the idea that there could still be a press event this week, very unlikely. Yes they announced the iOS 4 event very soon before it happened, but that was because the normal time to have this event was pushed back a bit by the iPad launch, and they needed to do it as soon as the iPad was released.

I'm not expecting a dramatic redesign, based on the fact that there have been no leaked pictures or creditable evidence. However, I expect there will be a bit more than simple spec bumps.

I think people look too much into the media event thing - yes, Apple always used to have a media event for upgrades, but that is also when Apple was only a computer company. I believe the company is now wanting to focus their media points on iPad and iPhone announcements, which are more "exciting" to report on by mainstream media.

You can't have a media event every time you announce something new, and expect to get lots of press every time.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Ok, so here's how I see it. Do I hope for light peak, liquid metal, better graphics for the 13", and a shiny magical new MacBook pro line? Sure, there's no harm in it and people can dream right? However, the ONLY thing that I am actually counting on is sandybridge, and anything after that will be a nice surprise. I have no 100% accurate sources, so I don't KNOW what's coming, and I'm guessing that you don't either. So please, can we agree to disagree on our personal OPINIONS? Afterall, we'll know soon enough, there's no need to bite people's heads off ;)

madd true, never thought of that.

just ignore him. he's hating cause he's gonna get styled on mad hard by the new mbp.
:D

Man the rage in this thread is pretty high. By wednesday night I expect permabans.

And I, for once, agree with ECUpirate44. People need time to prepare for a media event if there is one. Apple isn't god. You can't get on the next packed flight because "zomg but is for APPLE!"

I think they can. Apple products has so much hype behind them they could announce an event the day before and ALL the major tech news sites will be there the next day.

It just baffles me. The mba is an ultraportable that's meant to be "weaker" than its pro counterparts. If you bought an air (i did, at the same time as hcho3, actually) you don't really care that much about its specs, but rather it's performance for such a small package. Of course, i guess unlike me, hcho3 isn't also planning on a new mbp. I personally think if hcho3 cares so much, he should've just waited for the mbps. The mba clearly does not satisfy his needs if he's so insecure.

+1
Personally, I love the existing design and hope they keep it, with a few tweaks. Would rather they use the existing space to cram in more coolness rather than make it thinner.

Yep, me too,
Although a somewhat more scratch resistant exterior would be helpful.
That way most people could get away with not using a case.

Also, not to sound controlling, but everyone please take a step back before posting an angry post. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and you don't have to flame another person if you don't agree.

Oh it's obvious ? Source ?

Why would Apple wrap the pallets up so securely and threaten to remove reseller licenses ?

Why has their been no pictures or leaks of any sort a la Macbook 2010 ?

Why have Intel got a picture of a laptop with the Macbook Pro IR sensor which is super thin and black ? It even has the rubber lining around the bezel like the current ones do. Nobody goes to that much trouble to imitate a Macbook and then make it black for no reason.

I'm not saying there will be one, but the only reason i've heard so far for there not being a design change is that an event hasn't yet been announced, i've heard no logical reason why Apple wouldn't keep up with their recent trend of 3 year laptop refreshes.

absolutely agree....nothing is certain at this point

amen to that....why rain on our parade.

And even with a new MBA (i just picked up one) the MBP fits a different need for so many. Lets hope for some significant improvements and a surprise or two. If nothing major then each person decides whether or no they make the switch.

no leaked pictures doesnt necessarily mean there wont be design changes. Sealed packages not to be opened, or otherwise you lose your selling privileges. I dunno bout u guys but it seems really shady

Obviously never heard of this Adobe program called Photoshop have you? Just watch Avatar...making a black laptop with an IR sensor would take 15 minutes for someone proficient with any image editing program.

And why would they wrap the pallets? Because its a new model and they still have old models out waiting to be sold and it has not been released yet...same reason Polaris waited until this January to announce the Ranger RZR XP...so they could sell more Ranger RZR and RZR S. Its economics and marketing, take a look at it sometime and you might learn something. Just be happy that Apple lets the resellers have the product before it releases instead of starting shipping when announced.

1. There is more than just the IR sensor. The pictured laptop also has a rubber lining around the bezel JUST LIKE the current Macbook Pro's. Sure somebody could have taken the time to recreate a slimmed down MacBook Pro, but why the hell would they ?

Precisely. I'm sure Intel's ad designers have more important things to do than make up a replica MacBook laptop, adding an IR sensor and rubber lining around the Bezel does nothing but fuel speculation about it being a MacBook replacement and i don't think Intel are the sort of company to waste time making mock ups just to troll people.

2. 'Economics and marketing.' I actually laughed. I suppose you have a degree in business right ? Apple doesn't regularly maintain this level of security around a new product, and they don't always wrap their pallets in black tape and threaten stores with removal of reseller licenses.

Just look at the Macbook leaks, the iPad accessory leaks etc. If it was only a spec bump why would they go to all the trouble of covering the entire pallet ? The boxes would look the same anyway, if stacked correctly you wouldn't even be able to see the specification label. Apple have gone to a TON of trouble to protect the final specs of these machines, more so than a specification increase would seemingly warrant.

I also find it funny that the only people who feel the need to be rude are those who are so insistant that there won't be a re-design. If you can't have a debate without throwing insults then don't bother posting in the first place, okay ?

There is still plenty of time to announce an event. This is Apple we are talking about, they could announce an event the day of and the press would be there.

Plus it is only 8:36AM in Cupertino.

I feel if Apple is going to do a big refresh this year it will be at this time...that way people buy the new hardware now, then they do another spec bump at the Lion release. Then everyone who bought one now will be buying Lion in the summer.

It's President's Day. It's not happening. No invitations on a holiday. Sorry.

How do you know for sure thats from intel? and how do you know they dont wrap all the pallets? Do you work at Intel or Apple?
