But there's no reason to stick to Cali. They're an international company, expand your thought process.

Apple seems to be very proud of the fact that they are headquartered in California.

Hence the "Designed by Apple in California" message upon opening the package of many of their products.

Car makers also use city/location names to call their cars e.g.: Tahoe, Malibu, etc., so for me it doesn't sound strange, the strange thing is Apple jumping from felines names to location names.

Apple is not an "international company" in the context you're speaking of. Until their headquarters are worldwide they are not considered "International". They sell their products via worldwide distribution but at the end of the day they are home-based in California. Great state by the way. ;)

----------

OS X 10.9 would've been sufficient.

Perhaps but boring, and historically Apple has named all of their products. Why stop and turn it into a model number like every other tech company does?

----------

I don't get it. I'm not from the US.

LOL, don't worry about getting it. Both of them are big idiots.

Don't call me an idiot and really, don't call me an idiot when you're arguing about something posted quite a while ago. I really don't care about the name nearly as much as you people do. Argue it out amongst yourselves. I stand by what I said.

Are you McCain or Palin? Because I'm pretty sure the poster was talking about them, not you....

OS Named Mavericks bother you???

My question is serious... Can we really go from the powerful and regal cats of the animal world to a foolish name like Mavericks? Why do I find this so annoying? I looooove OS X, pls help!!!

Why do people care what it's called? As long as it works how i want it to, then i dont care what they called it.

Because Apple gets It that people have an emotional attachment to their products and are fiercely proud to own their technology. A name is the very basic descriptor of what something represents. A name with little meaning for the majority of the world results in no emotional bond. In fact, it makes you wonder if there's an inside story or hidden meaning that you don't understand- which there is. We want to get it, to understand the inside joke or reference. This name sounds like some kind of hokey western reference relating to driving cattle or cowboys or something.

I don't hate it, but I don't really care for it either. It seems like a slightly silly name, but then again, it's just a name. I had never heard about the place before, but I understand it's a beach in USA and has something to do with surfing. It still sounds like something that funny female politician would say or that 90's movie to me.

With all the bugs and beachballs in 10.9, why don't they just call it

OS X Bugs

or

OS X Beachball

Would it be offensive to say that I couldn't give a **** less about something so incredibly trivial?

I save strong emotions, such as hate, for far more important things...like bad espresso.

Kinda funny this.

Not really even original to Apple; Ubuntu had a Maverick Meerkat system out a while ago.

I live not too far from Mavericks, and perhaps the name is apt. It's only running optimally for a few short times per year, depending on conditions in the eastern Pacific Rim. Or maybe not at all. Like Mavericks.

But hey, at least it has a name, unlike their hardware. Sorting that is like sexing chicks (poultry). Is it a mid 2010 Sawbridge Mirrored door retina? Or a late 2011 Hasbeen Thunderbolt classic? iPad 2 generation 4 s? Must drive their tech support people bats (hey...there's a name!).

Well, I'm offended at the cavalier way you just threw out ****. Was that really necessary? :p

Oh, and I don't give a second thought to what companies name things.

I've long gotten used to it,, while I may not care for the name, I just call it OSX of 10.9

What's in a name? I've long since adjusted to calling it Mavericks - not Mawerick, Maverick or Maveric but Mavericks. There's nothing to it - call it OS X 10.9 if that suits you better and is in your vocabulary range. Don't call it iOSX or OXX or OSX or whatever but OS X. There you have it. Nothing to it.
