See, that's the thing for me. I have different devices for different needs. I have an iPhone, an iPad and a MacBook Pro. Yes, my every day device is my iPhone, my casual media device is my iPad and my workhorse is my Mac. I bring with me the device that will best suit my needs at the time. Famous quote (and one of Apple's/Jony Ive's recent ones as well) "Don't try to do everything because you wont be truly great at anything.". Personally, I I'm happy with each of my devices and the niche they fill.

Well you initially mentioned your iPad to negate the need for a larger screen.

What my point was, was that when you leave the house, the biggest screen you have, is the screen you have with you.

So in this case the 5.5 would be a more vibrant experience than the 4 and the iPad is probably at home unless you're doing something special with it.

So therefore it would still be useful to have the 5.5 screen over a 4/4.7 even if you own the iPad.

This is true, and a 5.75" or 6" should be even MORE vibrant than the 5.5. but see, there is my reason for not going with a much larger phone than there is out now; If I think I will need a larger screen, then I will bring my iPad with me. if not, then I will have to make do with my iPhone. But I can say that the times I've been out without my iPad and wished I had a larger screen have happened so few that I do not feel the need to sacrifice on the comfort and portability I experience when making calls, sitting in meetings, dining with the family etc.

For the record, I'm not against a large-ish iPhone. I'm not that guy saying "Oh Apple better NOT make a large phone or I'm leaving". I think if there is a market, and I'm sure there will be, it will succeed. but I hope they don't make them ALL phablets. I still prefer sleek, tight and compact.

Yes but you don't bring your iPad Air wherever you go. Your iPhone is always there with you ;)
Actually, I do bring my iPad with me practically everywhere. Heck, I carry 2 iPads to work every day (one Verizon, one AT&T). For me, 5.5" is too small for enjoyable web browsing and video playback. It's definitely too small for reading letter-sized PDF fullscreen.

And don't worry Im sure it will fit in a pocket. Its a tiny bezel. If anything when you reach in your pocket you can get a hold of it better cuz its not as small and hard to grab on to.
Given the iPhone 5/5s has fallen out of my pocket a few times, I don't hold much hope for that.

For all the people who see larger screen phones out there and think, "yuck, thats just way too big!"

or

"3.5/4 is good enough for me and my hands."

Why not just give it a try one time?

Give it a whirl one year and see what happens...

I don't mean like a time you tried your friends device and it felt weird; I mean like actually OWNING one for a sustained period of time.

You can always return it and get the 4.7, but give yourself a chance to get acclimated with it, even if you thought you would be bothered by this or that. Have an open approach to it and you may find some benefits that you love!

Or you might change the way you use it and what you use it for and when. What about those little cases too--that make it like a small mini iPad or planner. You know, its OK that your hands are small because your hands don't have to "swallow" the whole phone; you can just hold it and use it in various sizes and positions.

What about just finally watching a few Youtube videos or Netflix episodes and enjoying the graphics or eye candy. Maybe download some nice new games even though you don't play them much, just to see the new screen and the new OS in its biggest, boldest form yet.

I know I for one am excited!! You never know for sure until you try one!

Give it a chance!!! :)

Congratulations. You helped me decide against getting or even trying the 5.5 inch phone. I am now against it completely solely because you say I should try it. No ther reason.

Thanks for making it easy for me OP. Now I know I will not get or try the 5.5 inch phone simply because you are telling me I should get the bigger one. I have no other reason to not get one beyond that I do not like people telling me that I should do one thing or another.

Why though?

How can you be so sure?

You've never had one before. A large iPhone hasn't even existed yet--how can you possibly know with such certainty you wouldn't fall in love with it and the gorgeous eye candy it will no doubt present us with?

Don't you feel the least bit curious of what it would be like to own one??

I have an iPad for my big screen needs. I wear suits and want something discrete.

Oh no… suggest this after I get my hands on one first :D.

I have a feeling Apple is going to severely underestimate the amount of people that will want a 5.5" if in fact they are releasing one. Once it goes up for sale i can just imagine people would just change there mind right as there ordering and say screw it...5.5"

This on top of the limited supply that seems to be the norm rumor

I think youre trying too hard :p If they want bigger, they will get bigger; if they are set on having a smaller phone, then that is what they will get. You wont convince people otherwise. This is starting to feel like iOs6 vs iOs7, and I for one am not having any of it.

hey thats an idea! ios 6 on a 4.7 inch display! ;)

I did. About a month ago for a week with the LG G3.

Outstanding phone, but I couldn't handle it comfortably with one hand. And it's a lot smaller than the 5.5" iPhone could possibly be.

So thanks but I'll be getting the 4.7" iPhone :)

I'm curious as to why anyone would care what size phone another person, let alone someone they have never and will never meet, purchases.

This is one of the most silly post I've ever read. Someone trying to tell strangers to try out (Push) a large iPhone, when we can make up our own minds for ourselves.

Oh don't worry about that.

Even if you can't handle it comfortably with one hand, thats fine --you should still consider using it.

There are more important benefits you get from the bigger screen. Reading text is more "comfortable" on an ocular level for example.

This whole thread is silly.

Why not trade in your VW Bug and get a big ole Ford Truck? Come on. Try it for a year, you just might like it.

Silly thread. Really.

If there is one, I'm 100% down to try (although I've always wanted a bigger screened iPhone), but my major turn-off is going to be if the resolution is kept the same between 4.7 and 5.5 inch devices.

I'm going for the higher PPI.

I don't need to own something for a year to know I don't like it.

I have a phone, and I have a tablet. I don't need nor want anything in between.

I just said I already tried a really good 5.5" phone and didn't like it, and you're saying that I should try another 5.5" phone?

Pretty sure I know what I like in a phone.

And I have no problems reading on a 4" display. I think I'll be able to read just fine on a 4.7" display.

I had a note 3 for 2 or 3 months - seemed cool until the "new toy shine" wore off (just about the day after I could no longer return it) and then it was simply cumbersome. Fit in a pants pocket when walking around, but very uncomfortable when sitting. Overall, just too large to work well as a phone for me.

Long story long - 4.7 with really small bezels could be great - but it still might be big...hopefully they can work some Moto-X sizing magic.

Some people are just not about that life, and I don't blame them.

It's all personal preference.
Like I prefer the smaller of the 2 models, mainly because I think that size is a sweet spot and of course, a smaller price tag.

Unfortunately, this crowd is a tough one, and it's going to take more than "come on guys! Try it!" to convince them. Trust me.

As of right now, I think the 4.7" would be better for me. Though I do want to hold the 5.5" before I make a purchasing decision - main gripe is that it may be too big, not because of the screen though but because of Apple's huge bezels.

Yup, too bad since Steve left us Apple is now more in it for the dollar. They are saving the smaller bezels for the iPhone 8.

I thought size wasn't important! That's what those women's magazines say! :D
