Today marks what would have been Steve Jobs' 61st birthday, and Apple fans around the world are once again remembering the late Apple co-founder and former CEO on Twitter and in our discussion forums.

Coincidentally, today also marks the 16th birthday of MacRumors, launched by Arnold Kim on February 24, 2000 -- before OS X, iPods, iPhones, iPads, and more. As always, we express our gratitude to the readers, contributors, volunteers, sponsors, and all those who allow us to continue sharing the latest Apple news and rumors.

Jobs co-founded Apple with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in 1976, and the roots of the company were based in the garage of his childhood home in Los Altos, California. He worked at Apple for 25 years, over two separate stints between 1976 and 2011, in addition to founding NeXT in 1985 and funding Pixar in 1986. Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011 following a lengthy illness.

You might reword that last bit. Putting readers right after several minimizes the audience. Might I suggest:

No statistics this year?

Also... I've officially had an account here for half the time the website has existed now. My account is just shy of 8 years and 3 months old. I was a reader for about 3 years before joining.

Thank you, MacRumors, for the opportunity to be among your "several readers" :).

The pedants are out in force today.

I honestly provided my comment because I think the way it was written minimizes MR's audience. They clearly have a large reader base.... so why wouldn't I want to suggest they fix it in their story? If it was something about Apple that was misrepresented in the story, people would be all over it. That doesn't make one a pedant...

You can't help but wonder what it would have been like if Steve Jobs never got ill.

Man was a game changer.

Maybe he wouldn't have been as much of a game changer - he knew he was ill for many years, maybe his illness pushed him to achieve more in a short space of time. His game plan could have been completely different... of course, that's just speculation and nobody will ever know!

Time flies, it has been nearly 14 years for me on Macrumors and also this is my restaurant's 25th year, I was 17 when my dad opened it with me. At least I still feel young!

Yeah.... I've had an account since Mar 2002..... think I used this site without an account at first.

I have looked at macrumors most days since then, I think their grading system sucks as like you I'm still only a "macrumors regular" !

Maybe they should give out some honorary titles....

I still think he would have conceded to larger smartphones. There was no dying the market pressure was there, but I'm not sure if he would have dropped the 4" device category.
