The dumbest Virtual Assistant. There is a free search search service LazyWeb that is 1000X smarter than Siri.

But I have to say when Jobs demonstrated it, it really was something like the Jetsons... a computer that understands you. Wow...

You can ask Siri what someone said while watching something?! Since when?
They actually demoed this during the announcement. It rewinds the video and turns on subtitles for that section as well. Probably one of the more common things I use Siri for on the Apple TV.

I think it's from a privacy perspective, but it's weird and a little frustrating that Siri still feels like it's catching up to itself from before Apple bought it.

Just watch this video of the original app. It's crazy how good Siri was 10 years ago. Can you imagine how useful it would be if they had continued down that path?

No wonder all I use it for are timers:

And it’s still weak at doing anything besides please set a timer for 10 minutes.
But it is really good at that and alarms. I really just want my "assistant" to do little things like that. I don't want to converse with it, I don't want it to confirm it did something, I just want it to do what I ask and shut up. Siri is good for that for the most part.

I wish the same with my Google home.

You can absolutely do that. The feature is called "continued conversation" and you can keep asking questions without having to say "ok Google" over and over.

"Hey Siri, is it going to rain today?"
"Yes, looks like rain."
"Hey Siri, how about tomorrow?"
"There's a chance of rain after 12am."

sorry, this is one of few things Siri *can* do (just tried using my 6s).

I even asked about "the day after tomorrow" and it gave me the weather for Wednesday (today being Monday).

I was going to say the same thing but they said they wanted to do that *without* having to say "Hey Siri" for each question.

I use Siri all the time for setting reminders, calendar appointments, setting timers, and Googling things while I'm cooking or otherwise occupied. Works great, most of the time.

I actually use it all the time for settings reminders, sending text messages, and setting timers. It used to be atrocious for answering general questions ("How long does a redwood tree live?"). Instead of just saying "here's what I found on the web" it will now read the answer. Siri is not the best digital assistant but I've definitely noticed it improving over the years.

iOS 15 brought a big change. It moved Siri to your local device. It’s a huge success. My iPad and iPhone running iOS 15 both don’t work the way I expect or want them to, just like Siri.

Siri has actually gotten worse over the last ten years because Apple removed the Wolfram Alpha integration. Some of the data queries that were in the original Siri demo 10 years ago can no longer be performed.

The most bizarre thing was that I started playing around with 'Voice Command', and it WORKED! It worked better than Siri. I was left, after Siri became THE voice system for the iPhone, it just sucked. (Insert the words of steve jobs and his outburst on MobileMe).

'Voice Command' WORKED. Siri seemed like a joke, or a preemptive buy to steal another corporation's cheese. It's still not quite what it *should be*, IMO. It needs a LOT of work...

I have used Siri since it came out multiple times a day for many tasks on iPhone, HomePods, Apple TV etc
I have had very little issues over the years.
Tell me your not serious without telling me you’re not serious.

Google Home has had continued conversations for about five years. You just need to turn the setting on in your app. You may have also missed this lovely feature… You can combine quarries and have complex requests. For example “hey google, turn off all the lights, set the burglar alarm to home and guarding, and wake me up at 5 AM to the song wake me up before you gogo”.

I loved Siri before Apple bought it. If you asked her to find you a hooker it would show you Yellow Pages for escort services

Remarkable at how ahead of the curve Apple was with implementing it.

Doubly remarkable at how they completely, utterly, seemingly unashamedly, squandered that lead.
I don’t really give Apple credit for that. Siri was a standalone app that in my opinion, was actually better than it is now. Apple bought it and just took all the charm out of it and then slap their name on it and embedded it into ios.

See my response a couple posts before yours.

Am aware, going to troubleshoot.

Siri is a perfect example of why apple shouldn’t care about being first to release a certain feature. They usually don’t, which gives them the time to say no to lesser options, to develop and refine, but for some reason they rushed to make Siri happen and have been saddled with an inferior product ever since.
Siri was acquired, not apple made. Apple just f-ed her up a lot. And in a decade should’ve been able to do something more with it Considering their resources

I still remember all the fuzz and interesting conversations I was having with siri using my iphone 4s at the time hahahaha
