I remember that I had a Motorola Razr at the time... lost it while in SF at Macworld 2007. Replaced with a Motorola Razr (d'oh!!)

At least I could sync contacts via Bluetooth with iSync and Address Book (now Contacts)

I swear Steve Jobs was the reason why I loved Apple so much back in the day.

Key notes haven’t been the same since.
They’re too slick and phoney now (pun intended). When Jobs took to the stage, his passion for the product was infectious and genuine. Seeing Tim or Phil say “this is the fastest iPhone we’ve ever made” with little to no passion is just dull.

Man, I miss that interface... Simple. Clean. Not so bright. The calendar was easier to read. Just great. Drop shadows to make things more readable. Great design. Sure the leather stitching and green felt was a little too much but otherwise great.

not sure what you mean... for 2007 it was revolutionary, but compared to today’s iPhones it’s almost laughable. iOS 13 on a Pro Max is nothing short of a wonder.

Notable quotes from 2007:

"There’s no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance."
-Steve Ballmer, Microsoft

“It’s kind of one more entrant into an already very busy space with lots of choice for consumers. But in terms of a sort of a sea-change for BlackBerry, I would think that’s overstating it.”
-Jim Balsillie, BlackBerry

“The development of mobile phones will be similar in PCs. Even with the Mac, Apple has attracted much attention at first, but they have still remained a niche manufacturer. That will be in mobile phones as well,”
-Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia

"We've learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone. PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They're not going to just walk in."
-Ed Colligan, Palm

"There is no likelihood that Apple can be successful in a business this competitive.”
“What Apple risks here is its reputation as a hot company that can do no wrong.”
“If it's smart it will call the iPhone a ‘reference design’ and pass it to some suckers to build with someone else's marketing budget. Then it can wash its hands of any marketplace failures.”

- John C. Dvorak, in his column Apple should pull the plug on the iPhone

"I'm never going to pay $500 for a phone."
- Me, owner of an iPhone 3G, 4, 5S, 6S, and 8

Bought my first phone, a refurb iPhone 4, in December of 2010 after having an iPod Nano (the one with the camera) and a 2nd-gen Shuffle. Fell in love and have since upgraded to the 5 in 2012, the 6 in 2014 the 7 in 2016 and then held out until picking up my 11 Pro two weeks ago. Although the software is somewhat wonky and sometimes frustrating (particularly iOS 13 as well as iTunes under Windows 10), I still love the hardware and couldn't imagine ever going to any Android device.

I had the 4GB model with Unlimited Data. Wow, the thing was great, except that on EDGE you could either do voice or data. I remember at one point hanging up with a customer, plowing through the WebSphere docs on the IBM site, then calling the guy back.

Good times.

This is still probably the presentation Jobs/Apple has ever done. Somehow everything went perfectly with the demos and nothing crashed. Jobs' "distortion field" was in full effect here and you can tell even today how much better the OG iPhone is compared to flip phones then. One of my parents' friends was the first I knew who got it and that damn thing was amazing compared to my little flip Nokia phone. I didn't get my own until the 4S, but damn, was the original cool in 2007.

Interesting how the home screen basically stayed the same. Not sure what to think about that.

But i guess it works...

Honestly, I can't think of any change they could make that wouldn't be clutter. The one thing I really want is the ability to custom the icons on the lock screen to replace the flashlight with Shazam, as I use that more often.

verizon customers had that issue for several years after 3g...

Painfully slow? Tiny low res screen? Compared to what?

The original iPhone was not released in Canada but that did not stop a number of my friends from acquiring one.

I had to jailbreak, get a plan with WAP data and modify the phone to connect on the edge network. Back then I'd say Itunes remote was my favourite app, streaming to an Airport Express.

I wish we could turn off app labels and tighten up the grid spacing. These are literally the first things I've done on any jailbreak.

My 11 year old daughter was literally brought to tears seeing the product launch video. Overcome by tech! 😂It really was pretty awe inspiring seeing the complexity of that first iOS touch screen. It would be a few years before myself or my daughter could afford one.

Well, I mean the direction they went with the redesign to a more "flat" design has made the interface much worse. They got rid of drop shadows, vertical lines in the calendar and virtual "buttons" in the interface which has made the interface harder to use. The interface back then was great and intuitive. The redesign made the interface harder to read and less intuitive. The went in totally the wrong direction.
