I don't have that option in my settings. Only Today Summary, Calendar Day View, Reminders, Stocks & Tomorrow Summary. Anyone know why that would be?

So if I'm not a Gmail user, Google now really offers very little over Today sounds like. And seeing that it isn't front-facing (lock screen) like Today...seems the choice is obvious for me.

Let's just hope Apple continues to grow and improve Today.

Not true, Google Now can be front-facing on the lock screen if you so choose.

despite that...i have the option and can't ever get it to show up.....either reinstall or wait for new beta

We are discussing iPhones here.

Sorry, i thought it wad just general overall between the two. I hope they both get better, because in the end its great for consumers.

Right now, Google Now is the clear winner, especially if you allow all the cool l features.

My favorite is to say "remind me to pick up (whatever you want) at Target" or whatever store you choose and the next time I walk into Target I get a notification of just that. Same work with home and work.

It’s not nearly as full-featured as Google Now, but Today gives notifications about weather, commute traffic and a quick glance at future events. It is seem to be awfully familiar to Google Now. :apple::apple:

Same issue here. However, most days I work from home and only go into the office once every two weeks, so that might be the reason why. Hopefully over time it will recognize that every other Monday I go in and it starts showing me those directions on those days. I don't have much confidence though. My work calendar is an exchange account, and the meeting locations are always something along the lines of "Conf Room - North Office Silver". These are the names setup in exchange and not something I can edit, so unless my phone somehow learns over time where that room is, I don't have much hope.

NOT having Google Now available as an integrated view on the lock or home screen is what makes it more worthless every day for me and more excited for Today.

Looks great the way it is integrated into Android phones though and I hope Today gets better after it is released.

Let's not ignore the fact that Google has released a lot of features for Now over time; Apple could (and likely will) absolutely add to Today as time goes on.

Now has a lot of cool features and a lot of content but a lot of it also caters to a very specific set of customers; outside of package tracking (which is limited in scope; it won't (or didn't when I had it) track stuff shipped from Google's own Play Store) most of the really useful Now info is replicated in Today.

That's odd. I have it on mine:

Ok, figured out why it wasn't showing up on mine. For anyone that doesn't have that option showing, I did the following, and now it's showing up (in the options, at least):

Go to SETTINGS -> PRIVACY -> LOCATION SERVICES -> (scroll to bottom) SYSTEM SERVICES
Make sure TRAFFIC is turned on.
Then, go to FREQUENT LOCATIONS and make sure that is turned on. This will make the iPhone keep track of you're repeat locations that you travel to.

Once I did that, I then used Apple Maps to guide me home from work last night, and back to work today. Now, I see the TRAFFIC CONDITIONS toggle under the NOTIFICATION CENTER -> TODAY VIEW section.

Will see if I get any traffic updates/recommendations when I head home from work later today. One question I have is does the FREQUENT LOCATIONS get tracked and stored only if I use Apple Maps, or can I use Google Maps/Other map apps?

Fine, three things.

EDIT: Google Now is completely setup using your Gmail Account. Package Tracking, Hotel Reservations, Flight Status, etc cards are populated using confirmation emails to your gmail account. In case anyone wondered how that worked.

Since I pass nothing through a Gmail account, this would answer why Now is always so blank for me. All I get is to work/home.

I agree, but Google has a lot more flexibility in this regard. Since Google Now is part of an app they can update independently of the rest of the system they can update it more frequently (and for users who may not be on the latest base OS). Since Today is rolled into OS updates (and point releases don't tend to include feature updates) it's a lot less likely to pick up new info at a similar rate.

Google Now is built into Android and it has gotten plenty of updates that didn't require OS changes; it's the backend that was updated to provide better information integration and reporting, which could happen for Today also if Apple is planning it properly.

Google Now is cool, no doubt about it. But it's gone through quite an evolution from its fairly humble beginnings; let's hope that Today has the ability to go through a similar process.

Apple has a strong history of only providing annual updates to iOS functionality. There is no reason to believe that Today will be updated any differently.

Pretty much if it doesn't exist in 7.0, you won't see anything different until 8.0

Changing something in the today tab wouldn't be that big of thing for a point update. They did change some rather noticeable/bigger things (especially compared to some change that might be made in the today tab) in 4.1, 4.3, 5.1, and even 6.1, for example.

On the other hand, just look at Siri. Heavily-server side and there were no updates until 6.0 came out, and then nothing really again until 7.0.

That's ridiculous...Maps has had a ton of updates since it was integrated into iOS 6.

Just because it is an integrated feature doesn't mean they will not do over the air updates as needed to add functionality/features.

"Today" is your lifestyle info between you and your iPhone.

"Google Now" is your lifestyle info between you and Obama and Google and the CIA and Mark Zuckerberg and the whole world.

Damn, I hate Google, you can't trust them.

What features or functionality have been added to Maps? A larger "Report a Problem" button?

We are not talking about new data, but new features.

Pretty sure iOS has deeper facebook integration than Android does. Also, Apple was on the list for NSA informants with Google, MSFT, FB, etc.
