So if I'm not a Gmail user, Google now really offers very little over Today sounds like. And seeing that it isn't front-facing (lock screen) like Today...seems the choice is obvious for me.
Let's just hope Apple continues to grow and improve Today.
I don't have that option in my settings. Only Today Summary, Calendar Day View, Reminders, Stocks & Tomorrow Summary. Anyone know why that would be?
Not true, Google Now can be front-facing on the lock screen if you so choose.

We are discussing iPhones here.
Sorry, i thought it wad just general overall between the two. I hope they both get better, because in the end its great for consumers.
despite that...i have the option and can't ever get it to show up.....either reinstall or wait for new beta
That's odd. I have it on mine:
Fine, three things.
EDIT: Google Now is completely setup using your Gmail Account. Package Tracking, Hotel Reservations, Flight Status, etc cards are populated using confirmation emails to your gmail account. In case anyone wondered how that worked.
Let's not ignore the fact that Google has released a lot of features for Now over time; Apple could (and likely will) absolutely add to Today as time goes on.
Now has a lot of cool features and a lot of content but a lot of it also caters to a very specific set of customers; outside of package tracking (which is limited in scope; it won't (or didn't when I had it) track stuff shipped from Google's own Play Store) most of the really useful Now info is replicated in Today.
I agree, but Google has a lot more flexibility in this regard. Since Google Now is part of an app they can update independently of the rest of the system they can update it more frequently (and for users who may not be on the latest base OS). Since Today is rolled into OS updates (and point releases don't tend to include feature updates) it's a lot less likely to pick up new info at a similar rate.
Apple has a strong history of only providing annual updates to iOS functionality. There is no reason to believe that Today will be updated any differently.Let's not ignore the fact that Google has released a lot of features for Now over time; Apple could (and likely will) absolutely add to Today as time goes on.
Changing something in the today tab wouldn't be that big of thing for a point update. They did change some rather noticeable/bigger things (especially compared to some change that might be made in the today tab) in 4.1, 4.3, 5.1, and even 6.1, for example.Apple has a strong history of only providing annual updates to iOS functionality. Pretty much if it doesn't exist in 7.0, you won't see anything different until 8.0

That's ridiculous...Maps has had a ton of updates since it was integrated into iOS 6.
Just because it is an integrated feature doesn't mean they will not do over the air updates as needed to add functionality/features.
"Today" is your lifestyle info between you and your iPhone.
"Google Now" is your lifestyle info between you and Obama and Google and the CIA and Mark Zuckerberg and the whole world.
Damn, I hate Google, you can't trust them.
