Just wanted to say that the port is great. Not quite as good as on windows but it's still great. This is how all Mac games should play. I have the 680MX iMac from last gen and most games are a slideshow in OSX.

I just bought the game from Steam, and wanted to say you guys did an awesome job porting the game.
The graphics looks great, easily the best graphics on a mac game to date, also very smooth, no issues here. The game doesn't feel like a port at all, graphics are gorgeous, and everything is so smooth! I ran the benchmark and my average FPS is in the 50's, this is with everything maxed out in the graphics menu.

Thanks both, glad you are enjoying the game and the hours spent on optimisation was worth it!

That doesn't sound normal The 680MX is still a pretty good GPU.

Well I wouldn't say literally a slideshow (except witcher 2) but stuff like borderlands 2 or bioshock infinite seem to drop below 30 quite frequently, which to me looks like crap. I shouldn't have to drop games down to below 720p/medium settings to keep the fps steady. I deal with frame rates all the time for my work so when a game is going up and down like that it drives me nuts. Luckily Tomb Raider averages at around 58 with medium - high settings at 900p. Looks great.

I still think 32fps to 60fps is pretty good on the PS4... especially since it's the definitive edition with the new improved Lara and updated TressFX. I get min: 44.7, max: 62.3, avg: 54.6 on 5760x1080 with 3D Vision turned on... and it's still pretty smooth. Not as smooth as 89 fps to 120 fps with 3D turned off... but still playable. I'm thinking of getting the definitive edition for my PS4... the updates looks amazing compared to the PC version.

That's right. But I was really impressed overall by the optimization of the PS4 version : the beginning when you climb on the plane wasn't 60fps on my Mac on either Windows or OSX fully maxed + 1080p, but was 60fps on PS4 easily (my eyes say so :p).

I expected the PS4 version to really vary fps-wise, but contrarily to Killzone 4, the FPS are more stable and more often 60fps. When I showed it to my brother, he thought the game was too fast since he was used to the PS3 version :p

As with everything the truth is far more complex - "On Xbox One, we see a lock at 30fps, with occasional dropped frames shifting results lower. Activity is far more interesting on the PS4 side though, with frame-rate varying from anything between 32fps to 60fps across our sample"

I've still had no joy getting this running on OS X through steam, opens up the Feral options menu, I click play, black screens for a few moments and crashes - this is on the upper spec, 21.5" 2013 iMac.

Edit: Deleted and redownloaded, but sadly my WIndows saves (save1.dat) seem to be incompatible with the Mac version (save1.macdat) anyone got any ideas if there's a work around to this?

Reply from Ed so assume it cannot be done.

It works!!!

I've received the "solution" from Feral and now the games no longer crashes on startup.

Basically my iMac was missing its "name" on the sharing configuration. Here is the fix:

Please name the computer in System Preferences > Sharing

Once the machine is named, reboot and launch the game

It worked!! Now I'm able to enter and play on full settings. :)

Thanks a lot to Feral Support for being really nice and helpful :)

Glad it worked for you, it's a really bizarre bug as the OS does not allow you to have no name for your Mac (although it seems possible to do it!).

Enjoy!

Finished the game and it is a great port! :)
But unfortunately the incompatibility with the Windows version of the game leads to zero competitors in multiplayer :(

This was not by choice as we mentioned the PC source code for MP was not available so we had to rewrite the MP mode from scratch. The PC version also has similar low number of online players if you read the Steam forums, I think this might be because TR was traditionally a single player experience.

However for the best chance of an online game look for "free for all" games as they are the most popular. You could join the Mac Rumors steam group or start a thread looking for like minded gamers. I am sure a few of the fellow TR players would be up for a game, perhaps you might even get a Feral developer drop in for some kills if the time is right. :)

Hey there! Loving the port, pretty smooth :)

Is there any trick to getting the game to recognize controllers? I'm using a wii u pro controller over a mayflash adapter. It worked pretty well in bioshock, so I know it CAN be done :p

We support over 150 pads now! Don't know if the WiiPro pad has enough buttons but if it does then yeah it'll work. In fact if it works for BioShock then the plugin file you got sent to enable it in BioShock will work in Tomb Raider, I am quite surprised it is not automatically picked up.

If you have a new adapter and it isn't recognised just email pad support padsupport [AT] feral interactive [dot] com as per the FAQs and we can get the relevant USB HID data to enable it.

Legacy OpenGL bug

Hi Guys!

I play on a Macbook Air (late 2013 - Intel HD5000) and if I turn on Legacy OpenGL, the game is noticeably faster, however, after about 10 minutes the whole game gets a blue tint on it and it is unplayable. If I turn Legacy OpenGL off, then the game crashes after about 10 minutes. Anyone else have these problems?

Hi,

Please use the support-function in the pre-game options window. This will help Feral solve your problem much faster

There are a few drivers bugs on the HD5000 when using Legacy OpenGL. These have been logged with Apple but can cause side effects which is why the game defaults to the CoreGL path on that card.

It has been seen on a few other cards randomly but we have never been able to reproduce it due to it's very random nature. :(

I'd contact support so we can log your contact details so we can add your hardware details to the lost of people seeing the issue as it might help track get the graphics driver/OpenGL fixed.

I'm having an issue with launching my Steam version of the game. Ever since I reformatted and did a time machine backup, the game won't launch saying "tomb raider quit unexpectedly. Any idea's how I can fix this?

I had to reformat because I was messing around with a Fusion Drive using two 1TB hard drives in RAID 0, but ended up going back to a single SSD and 1 TB hard drive Fusion setup. I made a time machine backup of the fusion\raid 0 setup and it restored just fine to my traditional Fusion setup, with the exception of tomb raider not launching.

Is there a difference in the Mac App Store one vs. Steam's version? Any performance enhancements and stability in the Mac App Store version?
