Security is such nonsense now. I don't fly THAT often, but I've got a system in place. I've basically resigned myself to getting dressed on the other side of security. Before I even get in the line, my shoes are untied, belt is in my bag along with cell phone, keys, etc, laptop is out (out of its case, not its sleeve) as is my 1qt ziplock. I proceed through security, go to the first set of chairs available, then get dressed =P.

It always amazes me that some people get up to the front of the line THEN proceed to dig through their bags, holding everyone up.

As an aside, checked bag fees should be outlawed in my view. The whole time I was growing up the airlines BEGED people to check bags. Now they charge you for it, and wonder why people bring bags that are too big and why the compartments are over full. This checked bag fee nonsense has made the main cabin more crowded, uncomfortable, and potentially less safe. I much prefer to check my bag, but on all but a longish trip I won't consider it. Gate check my bag if you want to, but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay extra money for that nonsense.

I have a feeling you have some pretty entertaining stories saved up lol

A few. :)

If you do it on a daily basis, it becomes routine. The advantage crew members have is if their shoes don't beep they can keep them on. Solution: wear loafers when traveling. :)

The unorganized or infrequent fliers.

While it's a valuable revenue stream for a battered industry, this policy has had a direct effect on slowing the boarding process, but the revenue is more important. ;) The airlines did it to themselves and everyone is conditioned to think it's perfectly reasonable to pay $200 to fly coast to coast when it's not realistic at all. Compare time and money for driving the same distance.
