I think they a differentiating the product line. They wanted to get everything to the M chips asap and bow will start having the low end stuff with a chip behind the pro stuff. I’d expect an M2 mini one the studio and MacBook pros get the M3.

I agree the APM needs an update. Was recently on a 6-hour flight and I'm not sure if something changed as the noise-canceling wasn't as robust as before.

An M1 mini with more RAM would suffice. An M2 Pro or M2 Max with related TB and display support would be enough. An M3 Pro or M3 Max would be even better.
I have two M1 minis with 16GB RAM/UM (work and home). They do a good job but I would definitely want more RAM/UM if replacing them. I think an M2/3 Pro with 32GB RAM/UM and 2TB SSD would be ideal for me. (I suspect Apple will leave the Max and Ultra for the Studio models, but I might be tempted to go for Max if available on the minis).

I'd wanted to update my 2019 iMac for a while. But after waiting for both an M2 iMac and an updated high-end Mac Mini, I find that I honestly don't care anymore. My iMac still works fine and I'm really not interested in many of the features that Apple silicon will allow. Plus, Apple seems to be growing more cynical with each passing product introduction. Maybe it's time for me to put Apple on pause for a while.

I think it's due to Apple having manufacturing/parts issues that prevent normal announcements as often. Also if you judge Apple by how they have maintained their marketplace valuation of the company they have been way more conservative with risks. So several large companies have lost a lot of their value (100's of billions USD) since the start of 2022, Apple was only very little loss comparably. You also note they did a hiring freeze.

So since March 2020 I think its not so much Apple is considered cynical aka selfishly or callously calculating, but rather they are being overly cautious with their calculations effecting what products we see, and hence less choice with desktops per this topic. You see that stated when Apple tries to estimate the next quarters performance. ;)

Assuming there is no 27” iMac in the wings, perhaps the current 24” M1 iMac is kept as an entry model with a higher performance black bezeled space grey M3 model introduced.

One can dream.

The iPhone SE could also use an update
Uh, what? The newest SE (which has an A15, basically the same as in the iPhone 14) just came out this year, with two years being the shortest length of time between models. My guess is we’ll either see one spring 2024 or late 2023.

I know, but the device has a design of a phone that came out in 2017

I wonder what the comments will be if Apple releases a non-Inter Mac Pro with no user upgradable memory.

The Mac mini is far too large. They need a new form factor that roughly mirrors an AppleTV, without the fan. Although even if it were the same size, but fan-less and fully solid state, it would be a huge win.

I have a 10 year old mini that's still chugging along for network stuff. I'm willing to replace it, but not for something that's not better. It isn't proc speed, and it has 16g ram. One of those entry M1s would be fine, except for the moving parts. That needs to stop on these things.

If Apple can’t make AirPods Max 2 play ‘lossless’ wirelessly…they suck. 🤪 Launch the classical app with a new AirPods Max 2 that plays lossless wirelessly.

The new mini will be huge. 🤪

And Macs should play lossless video, too, right?

The reason your AirPods don't die in 30 minutes is compression. The good part is something like 256AAC is indistinguishable - particularly given the hardware used to reproduce the sound.

There are limitations on bandwidth in order to use the devices wirelessly. If you want lossless, get a cable and live with it. That's the trade.
