It is distinguishable for genres like classical and jazz where instruments are the stars. Lossless quality and wireless is the goal. AirPods Max could probably have a setting for compression and switch to lower resolution if battery percentage goes below 25%. Current AirPods Max charges pretty quickly.

If the rumors are true, M2 chips are being reserved for the AR headset (January unveil, Q1/Q2 shipping). So the iMac’s next update could indeed be waiting for the M3.

Maybe Apple should re-launch iPod Nano. Better sceen, better capacity, better BT. For those long jogs when you want the f***ing world to leave you alone without any mobile connectivity or tracking.
I guess the closest thing from today’s Apple would be a wifi Apple Watch SE paired with your choice of AirPods?

AirPods Pro max are never going to see an upgrade; like the original HomePod, they are an interesting novelty product, but not one that Apple is going to see a huge profit boost from refreshing.

I have two HomePods and a pair of AirPods Max, so it’s not like I’m hating on them; they just don’t fit into The Company Plan.
disagree.

AirPods Max are everywhere now. they’re very popular and unlike HomePods, can be seen in public and on TV and are easily recognizable.

they are two very different products and they will definitely see an update.

AirPods usually go 2-3 years before a major update.

The Intel Mac mini is end of life. There will be no refresh

Probably, but not definitely. When Apple signed on with Motorola and IBM in the early 1990's for the PowerPC chip I doubt that they thought then that they would ever revert back to Intel chips. Motorola made the 6800 and 68000 lines of processors that powered the Macintosh and also the Amiga computer, which in my opinion was superior to any personal computer in the mid to late 80's, as far as speed went. Partnering with IBM and Motorola, long time chip manufacturers had to seem like a no-brainer deal. It didn't work out anywhere like any of those 3 companies thought it would.

That particular mouse will probably not make a comeback.

But the Magic Mouse with that ridiculous charging port could really use an update.
If they insist on not having it charging via cable and useable at the same time, they could make it charge wirelessly via a mousepad.
You are only saying that because your mouse is dead and without a different input device you can't use you computer like you can with many non-Apple mice, by plugging a USB cable into their charge port and using it as a wired mouse until it has charged WHILE you were using it instead of stopping your computer use dead in its tracks.

If Apple can’t make AirPods Max 2 play ‘lossless’ wirelessly…they suck. 🤪 Launch the classical app with a new AirPods Max 2 that plays lossless wirelessly.

The new mini will be huge. 🤪
I usually don't like just insulting Apple by saying "they suck" but in your example I agree.... They have bragged about 'Pro' quality music without having a device that can use even 16 bit music wirelessly while other electronics can use up to 24 bit, and do it wirelessly. Apple can call their library extensive and their streaming service easy and cheap but they don't even offer a CD quality let alone a higher lossless quality product.

Is it weird that I’ve been kinda happy that model‘s stuck around so far? I expect that intel builds will probably last 3 years from the last intel mac sold, so the longer that machine sticks around the longer its likely my intel macs will be able to run later OSes, either supported or with OC :)

I have two M1 minis with 16GB RAM/UM (work and home). They do a good job but I would definitely want more RAM/UM if replacing them. I think an M2/3 Pro with 32GB RAM/UM and 2TB SSD would be ideal for me. (I suspect Apple will leave the Max and Ultra for the Studio models, but I might be tempted to go for Max if available on the minis).
I'm curious, the mini-stopper for me wasn't RAM, but the lack of USB ports. Four? Really? How do you get by with only four USB ports?

I have six things plugged in to my desktop now, and I would need an external DVD drive and a Time-Machine disk with a Mini. The eight ports on the Studio would be completely filled, but at least there are enough.

It’s surprising Apple still sells it.

I was looking forward to a macOS code base that’s solely written for Apple Silicon. There must still be quite a few people buying it.

Eagerly awaiting the higher end Mac Mini with M2/3 Pro/Max. The Studio is an expensive overkill for me

Apple sells the intel Mac mini not because of some odd pricing gap, but because there are companies that need intel Mac minis - either to run old software or to serve as build servers to continue to support Intel-based customers.

That some of these customers have custom solutions for data center storage is also why the form factor has been slow to change.

A higher-end Apple Silicon mini competes against the Mac Studio line. They are boxed in by the form factor requirements (doubled cooling requirements) and by pricing in supporting M2 Pro chips.
