I think the only way any of us will pass MJ (besides Doc's way) is if a horrible iBook accident takes his fingers.

The only way most of us will pass mad jew is by going to Australia and walking from one end of his street to the other.

at least i can claim that :D

one thing to remember, is that at some point in time he won't be able to keep up the pace. so someone else will get the chance - but the more post he gets the harder its going to be.

Just out of curiosity Doctor Q, any easy way to determine the average post length for some of the most prolific posters?

I imagine that Mr. Anderson could possibly be ahead in words or maybe another of the top posters is really prone to rants. Would be another interesting statistic if there were any easy way to extract it.

It's possible in theory, but I don't have any data on the content of posts, only how many and when.

It could be estimated using a random sample. Just to see what I'd get, I collected a tiny sample: the total sizes in bytes of 10 posts by mad jew and 10 posts by Mr. Anderson. Much to my surprise, the posts by mad jew totalled 2.8 times the size of Mr. Anderson's posts! But my sample wasn't random: I picked posts that were first in their threads, i.e., threads those members started. Even if mad jew uses more words when bringing up a new topic, that doesn't mean his replies in other threads are that much bigger than those by Mr. Anderson. And that sample size was too small to produce meaningful results.

I'm curious what impression people have of post sizes. Who among the top posters seems to have posts that are shorter, the same, or longer than average size, compared with those of other members?

That's an interesting area of study as well...my initial query was started when I had just written a rather lengthy reply to a question and quipped to myself "at this rate, I'll never pass mad jew!"

Of course, the post size statistic could also be skewed off by people cut-and-pasting from articles and such. The idea of impression of post size is interesting...also interesting would be if there would be someway to set up a sample problem thread and have the top 50 posters anonymously respond to the problem (each as the first response without seeing other responses) and see if the other members could pick members out by their post content...sort of like those grade school pictures of people who are famous today.

Just read through the later pages of the thread Q. Major bit of work. Thanks very much :)

How would you average length of post, Number of lines or words in a post?

I thought that people might appreciate knowing that skunk has at least 12836 posts in the various forums, including at least 7578 political ones, so the numbers in the "official" lists aren't always a perfect indicator of ranking.

Similarly, IJ Reilly has at least 13076 posts, including at least 7946 political ones.

Also of possible interest is that, of the 22725 or more total posts by mad jew, only 75 were in the political forum. Almost all - except for less than 400 - of his posts "count" (i.e, aren't in the Political, Wasteland, Marketplace, etc. forums). :)

Can we get a run down of just Political Posts, I am curious to see who is in the lead.

That certainly was a nice gesture. Neither skunk nor IJ Reilly would have said a word, since they're so humble.

:p

Well, I'm not able to do it except one person at a time, tediously, but I'd guess few people could top the almost 8000 posts in that forum alone that IJ Reilly has.

Thank you for that horrifying statistic. :)

I thought I fell off but in the past six months I've been very active....not that active though because I still didn't make it:(

I feel like the chick that didn't win an emmy in 14 years...so close but yet so far.

I'd be interested to see a breakdown of the top 50 based on geography (if that was at all possible).
