Sustainment is what counts.
I haven't been on a vacation. :p
What I meant by sustainment, is posting good posts consistently.

MJ could disappear for 2 years and nobody would catch him.

Hey Q can you do the numbers if Mad Jew stops posting today, how long would it take someone to catch him.
Now that would be interesting.

100-300 posts a day isn't terribly hard for me.

If possible I'd like to see my highest number of posts made in a 24 hour period.
It's not a competition.

Dr. Q likes numbers and enjoys analyzing the posting data. It is not meant to encourage competition.

I wouldn't recommend that. Too many too often aren't always seen positively.
And many times, this looks like thread spamming.

Fixed that for you, jsw.

And direct from the forum rules, kindly note #2 here:
Spam and overposting. Not just being a prolific poster, but posting the same exact post in many different threads, posting multiple pointless posts in the same thread, making numerous post with no real content, or posting for the purpose of gaining a higher post count. This will get you banned.

Whenever we do this bit of navel-gazing with the top poster stats, it's for fun, and we definitely don't want to encourage posting for the sake of posting. Luckily, this will all soon be forgotten for another six months.

Thank you, moderators, for reminding everyone about that.

I only post in a thread that holds my interest. It's just that there are a lot of threads that do interest me. :p

I would imagine it is more of a warning.
I have to agree with some of the threads that are started here on MacRumors.

I've decided against starting a thread unless it's in the marketplace. I've rarely had people reply to them. Maybe my problems are too technical but still too mundane for the Apple Mailing Lists.

Where do I go then?!

Of course if someone was banned for it we would never know. So I imagine it has happened.

Depends how you word the problem, somebody has an answer. There are threads here for everyone.

apple discussion forums maybe?

anyways, i know that this is for fun and all, and i was just wondering, do you do this in excel? (sorry if it's been asked before)
I've been doing these stats for a long time, so of course I first used an abacus. ;)

Eventually, when the computer age came about, I switched to an Appleworks spreadsheet, and I now shudder to think how I survived using that extremely limited component of what was otherwise a nice integrated suite. Then I switched to Excel and never looked back.

I've gradually added notes to myself and formulas that automatically adapt to the 6 month period at hand so that I get better at the process each time. But it's complicated enough that I make a few mistakes each time and have to back up over a step now and then because I mis-sorted or forgot to fill some range before the next step.

I've played with Numbers, but haven't seriously considered migrating from Excel.
