I'm curious now - so what are the top most posting posters posting about? Are these 1-2 liner posts? Are they Moderators?
e.g.
Eraserhead, 3,438 posts, 18.9 posts per day
PlaceofDis (2,733 posts, 15.0/day)
Abstract (2,693 posts, 14.8/day)
bartelby (2,655 posts, 14.6/day)
xUKHCx (3,215 posts, 17.7 posts/day)

Unbelievable. I have never posted at such a rate on MR since I joined!!

I'm supposed to be working on my thesis. My 14.8 ppd post rate just shows you how often I must spend in front of a computer nowadays.

thanks for the rest of the stats. that last graph is interesting. just looking at it; it appears that i tend to be most active in the middle of the year. at least thats how it seems. interesting. wonder if it has truly been cyclical like that since i joined. or well at least since i started posting more.

Well I'm listed at 7.6 per day because that's my rate over the past 6 years or so. Over the past 6 months, I've been posting at 14.8 ppd, which is pretty crazy. ;) I'm used to lying low, yet appearing on the list anyway due to how long I've been here. Slowly but steady, I say....

As you can see, Eidorian and a few other of the highest posters actually slowed down in the 6 months since, from January 2008 to July 2008. Meanwhile, those following them sped up a bit, making the range of rates much smaller and the contests closer.

To be honest, I didn't even notice that Eidorian was posting frequently. We must not cross paths often (or I'm not very observant).

This may be a result of the particular members involved and their habits and forum activity, or it may show some kind of "averaging out" effect for which I don't have an explanation. Another possibility is that there are seasonal variations in post rates between the 1st and 2nd half of each year, a pattern I hadn't thought to study. Theories are welcome.
I tend to post more in the colder months of winter and slack off during the summer.

An interesting number breakdown would be from March to September, and September to March.

In my own defense (if such a thing is possible), I work from home and spend virtually all of every working day in front of my Mac. Not working in an office, this board functions essentially as my water cooler. So whenever my mind is foggy from writing whichever report I'm working on at the moment, I pop on here for a bit. Which accounts for a lot, some may say. In any event, it adds up, apparently.

Don't forget his collection of iGary and TDD videos...

Psh, I'm underneath his bed.

I'm actually quite surprised I didn't make the EOT list. I've posted quite a bit in the past 6 months.

So has everyone else.:p Next time don't take a 2 month posting vacation.

Those end of time numbers are scary though. I have a lot of posting to do to get to number 5.

I'll say that I managed to get my predicted result for my degree during the last 6 months.

However now I have finished and have less to do I am doing far more so my post count rate in the next 6 months will drop of massively (at least I hope) and ruin Doctor Q's predictions

That's a metric I'd love to be able to generate for myself. I know it started off as nearly non-existent, but is about 7/day over the last 3 months or so. Doing a little extrapolation of my own, at my post rate since April I figure I'll be in the 3,850-3,900 post range by the end of the year. Looking at today's numbers, that puts me in a very No-Real-Life spot around #125-150.

While being #1 posts in the last 6 months, I still went from a 2:2 to a 1st in my degree ;).

For some members, it's due to a simple technical issue. If you didn't have enough posts to be anywhere near the Top 50 in my January 2008 stats or earlier, then I don't have a record of your prior posting history and thus no data on which to make a good prediction. A high post rate during the first 6-month period I track someone has proven to be a bad measure for the End of Time Top 50, since so many people post a lot for a short period of time, then slow down.

Here are some members, with their post rates over the last 6 months shown in parens, for which I won't have sufficient predictive data until next time:
CalBoy (15.0 posts/day)
Teh Don Ditty (11.6 posts/day)
Markleshark (8.6 posts/day)
flopticalcube (7.0 posts/day)
jessica. (3.7 posts/day)

After looking at that graph, who else thinks we need an "Abstract's post rate at the end of time" calculation? :D

It's so up and down that I'm not sure there would be a strong correlation when you plot his rate against time. You'd get something, but I doubt it would be terribly insightful.
