    50 yellow 15,919 0.0 46 -4
    Columns:
Rank = Position in order by post count, 1 (highest) to 50.
Current Top 50 = members with the 50 currently highest post counts.
Cur Posts = # of posts by that member.
Cur Rate = average # posts per day by that member over the last 6 months.
Prev Rank = previous rank, as of 6 months ago (January 2017), or "---" for those who are new to the Top 50.
Delta Rank = change in rank, i.e., # of slots +higher or -lower in rank since 6 months ago.

    Observations
    1. The minimum post count required to reach the Top 50 has increased by 588 posts (from 15,331 to 15,919) since 6 months ago.

    2. GoCubsGo hasn't posted since last September, allowing C DM to move up into 4th position, with GoCubsGo dropping to 5th.

    3. The Top 10 is otherwise the same as 6 months ago.

    4. C DM no longer has the highest post rate among the Top 50. That distinction goes to Scepticalscribe, the only Top 50 member with a post rate over 20 posts/day.

    5. New Top 50 members Apple fanboy and eyoungren and kdarling have bumped moderators and former moderators dejo and sushi and devilot off the list.

    6. Of the fifty members of the Top 50, 32% make at least 1 post per day, 26% post less frequently, and 42% are inactive.

    7. Largest rise in rank: Scepticalscribe, up 10 slots. No other member gained more than 2 positions in the list.

    8. Largest drop in rank: yellow (another former moderator), down 4, just barely in the Top 50.

    9. Total posts to date by the Top 50: 1,141,420, which is 4.6% of all posts ever made at MacRumors (the same percentage as last time).

    10. Over the last 6 months, the Top 50 made 22,941 posts, which is 3.7% of all forum posts made during that period.

    50 yellow 15,919 50 0
    Columns:
    1. Proj Rank = Projected position in order by post count, 1 (highest) to 50.
    2. Projection Jan 4, 2018 = members with the 50 highest projected post counts based on current post count and rate for the last 6 months.
    3. Proj Posts = projected # of posts by that member.
    4. Cur Rank = current rank, as of July 2017 (see Chart #1 above), or "---" for those who are not in the current Top 50.
    5. Delta Rank = projected change in rank, i.e., # of slots +higher or -lower in rank over the next 6 months.

    Observations
    1. By these projections, maflynn will retain the top spot.

    2. C DM and Applejuiced are projected to pass the 40,000-post mark.

    3. Scepticalscribe is projected to join the Top 10, passing Eidorian and knocking rdowns out of the Top 10.

    4. Weaselboy is projected to gain 3 slots, pushing MRU and robbieduncan and Abstract down 1 each.

    5. SandboxGeneral can boast about this impressive accomplishment: holding the #16 slot in the End of Time rankings from 6 months ago, the #16 slot in the current Top 50, and the #16 slot in the projected Top 50 six months from now!

    6. Largest rise in rank: Apple fanboy, up 15 slots, followed by eyoungren, up 10 slots.

    7. Largest drop in rank: wdlove, down 5 slots. He's been inactive since 2007, so 6 months from now may be his last appearance on the Top 50.

    8. In a highly unusual outcome, these projections have no new members of the Top 50, just a reordering of the current Top 50.

    9. In a Top 100 list, arn would rank #65 as of today and would be projected at #67 in six months.

As always, @Doctor Q, a fascinating - nay, a compulsive - read, and thank you for taking the time and trouble to put this together.

Congrats to @Apple fanboy on joining the top fifty.

And why, pray tell, @Doctor Q, do you say that you plan this particular thread to be the penultimate (I love that word) thread of this sort?

Oh, quite candidly, I am more than content with No 11 and must applaud the results of @Doctor Q's extraordinarily impressive series of statistical tallies.

No praying is required, since I'll be glad to tell. While I enjoy spreadsheet calculations and forum navel-gazing, it's at least a day's work every 6 months, so I decided to give up the hobby once it reached a month's worth of time, i.e., 30+ days over 15 years. (While I was tempted to wait for 32 since it's a power of two, 30 is a rounder number for people with 10 fingers.) I thought it was fair to warn everyone (or at least those who know the word penultimate) ahead of time.

Maybe I'll use the time I save for another geeky endeavor. I'm prone to such temptations. My first time-consuming MacRumors project was the MacRumors Members Photo Directory, which I posted and updated regularly from 2003 to 2008, first here and then in redesigned form here.

Or maybe I'll rest in my hammock and look for animal shapes in the clouds.

Well I for one will miss these little snapshots of data!
I recall the first one I read thinking well I'll never get in the top 50!
    How little I knew.
But really thank you for the time you have put in with all these numbers.

But as it's the 4th July shouldn't you be eating some pie?

I suggest stopping at 31, instead of 30 or 32.
    1. It's the max representable number in 5 bits (0x1F).
    B. It'll be on Independence Day 2018 (throwing off the yoke of oppressive calculation)
    iii. It's prime.
    ☶. It'll keep 'em guessing.

I don't doubt the amount of work required, - simply reading the stats suggests that it seems to be quite considerable - but, having established the tradition, I daresay that a public (or, at the very least) a forum wide - appetite for reading about - nay, devouring - such material & matters exists.

Well, if you cease your labours - and such things can become very addictive - all I can say is to thank you for the extraordinary work you have done - and put into this - to date.

I'm on the U.S. west coast, so my pie-eating is still many hours from now.

My coworker and I (we're both computer programmers) used to laugh at the idea of allowing one setting used by our software to have values from 1 to 257, just to make other software engineers do a double take.

    Columns:
    1. Proj Rank = Projected position in order by post count, 1 (highest) to 50.
    2. Projection End of Time = members with the 50 highest projected post counts as time goes to infinity, based on a computed post rate.
    3. Weighted Rate = # posts per day by that member as a cascading weighted average, giving 50% weight to the most recent 6 months, 25% to the previous 6 months, 12.5% to the previous 6 months, and so on, with adjustments made based on the length of membership.
    4. Cur Rank = current rank as of July 2017 (Chart 1), or "---" for those who are not in the current Top 50.
    5. Delta Rank = projected change in rank, i.e., # of slots +higher or -lower in rank from now until the end of time.
    6. Last EOT = rank in End of Time projections from 6 months ago (January 2017, Chart #3), or "---" for those who were not in the previous End of Time Top 50.
    7. Delta EOT = change in rank from End of Time projection 6 months ago to End of Time projection now.
These are the true "top posters" at MacRumors since they currently make the most posts over any given time period. The results are limited to posters with at least 5000 posts and enough history for me to track their rate.

    Observations
    1. Only 12 of 50 members in the Top 50 End of Time are among the current Top 50 posters, showing the big difference between post count and post rate. Only sustained posting puts people on the current Top 50, while a burst of posting activity can determine your position among the Top 50 End of Time.

    2. Relentless Power has "come out of nowhere" to lead the list. Having joined only in June 2016, this user wasn't previously on my radar. Relentless Power's posting rate of 26.6 posts/day is based on the entire 12.7 months of membership rather than on just the last 6 months.

    3. Comparing these End of Time rankings with the End of Time rankings from 6 months ago, having a new #1 pushes everyone else down 1 slot. But two members managed to hold their positions, which is equivalent to gaining a position among the others on the previous list. In particular, Scepticalscribe and Tech198 maintained their #3 and #20 positions.

    4. Others in the Top 10 have changed their post rates a bit. C DM has dropped from over-30 to under-30 posts/day. maflynn has dropped from over-20 to under-20. I7guy dropped from over-10 to under-10. Going the other way, eyoungren has increased from under-10 to over-10 posts/day.

    5. Applejuiced has joined the Top 10 End of Time while Applejuiced and The Game 161 have dropped out of the Top 10.

    6. New to the Top 50 End of Time: Mlrollin91, pat500000, epicrayban, redheeler, willmtaylor, ActionableMango, AidenShaw, thadoggfather, and BasicGreatGuy. Of this list, only AidenShaw is in the current Top 50.

    7. Two former End of Time Top 25 members have dropped out of the Top 50 End of Time: JayLenochiniMac and Night Spring.

    8. Largest increase from End of Time 6 months ago: keysofanxiety, up 26 slots to #18, followed by Abazigal, up 19 slots to #30.

    9. Largest decrease: mattopotamus (down 22 slots), then bunnspecial (down 19 slots) and SandboxGeneral (down 18 slots).

    10. It now takes 3.11 posts/day to make the Top 50 End of Time. AppleRobert (3.06 posts/day) and DeltaMac (3.01 posts/day) are the only members to miss the list while making at least 3 posts/day.

    11. The longest forum membership among the End of Time Top 50 is once again Chupa Chupa, a member for 15 years as of 2 weeks from now.

    12. New arrival Relentless Power has the shortest forum membership, less than 13 months.

    13. If we expanded the list to the Top 150 End of Time, arn would be #136. I'd be #80.

    14. One last honor to bestow. Relentless Power is the first forum member on any Top 50 list with a username longer than 15 characters. The forum username limit of length 15 was increased to 25, and "Relentless Power" is 16 characters long!

PRSI posts are not considered in these statistics because they aren't reflected in the post counts shown by the forum system, and I get my stats from user profile pages.

    Columns:
Rank = Position in order by post count, 1 (highest) to 50.
Active Top 50 = members with the 50 currently highest post counts among those who have posted in the last 6 months.
Cur Posts = # of posts by that member.
Last 6 Months = # of posts from January 2017 to July 2017.

    Observations

Many of you don't recognize forum members in Chart #1 because they are no longer active. This chart is limited to active users, so you're more likely to recognize the names. However, some of these users are barely active, two of them with only 1 post in the last 6 months. nagromme barely made the list by making a post 12 days ago.
    1. Seven members have joined this list since 6 months ago: DoFoT9, Newtons Apple, Macman45, Huntn, Chupa Chupa, Lord Blackadder, and cube.

    2. An equal number have left the list. All of them posted in Fall or Winter 2016 but not so far in 2017: GoCubsGo, Hellhammer, Blue Velvet, dejo, r.j.s, Consultant, and JayLenochiniMac.

    3. There is quite a range of post rates, with 8 members making over 1000 posts in 6 months and 7 others making less than 10 posts in 6 months.

    4. It takes 12,503 posts to make this list. cube missed the list by 44 posts.

    5. Technically, mkrishnan should win the coveted Post Rate Consistency Award for a post rate that changed by only one post per day. She made 1 post from July 2016 to January 17 and 2 posts from January 17 to July 17. But since that's a 100% increase, that shouldn't really count. The same applies to Abstract, with 2 posts in the previous 6 months and 4 in the latest 6 months. Therefore, we'll give the Post Rate Consistency Award to WildCowboy for making 110 posts in the previous 6 months and 108 in the latest 6 months.

    6. The less-coveted Post Rate Inconsistency Award goes to C DM for a post rate that changed from 6,696 in 6 months to 3,035 in 6 months. That's not a shabby post rate, but it's not up to his usual standards!

How much automation or scripting is involved in preparing the stats?

I thought most of the stats production was automated, so if it's not, maybe that could improve the experience, or, um, postpone an early climactic event. If the forum software has URLs that provide stats, then maybe some curl or perl or whatever could be employed. I might be interested in contributing to that. In fact, it sounds like an interesting thread for Mac Programming forum. Of course, if access to the forum stats is restricted, you'd be the only one able to test the scripts, but others could contribute pieces to the overall project.

As always, an extraordinarily interesting read; long before my name appeared on any of these lists, I used to find reading them fascinating.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to put all of this together, @Doctor Q.

I use curl to collect raw data, but there's more to do, starting with deciding which users to collect data for. But in theory others could do this too. I probably use my administrator status to collect certain details, but I think that the primary task could be done by others: find users with lots of posts and/or high post rates, project totals 6 months into the future, and compile the various lists.

Because many of these users' posts were made before the Like system was available, I don't compute the ratio of likes to posts. That measure would artificially favor more recent forum members.

Again, fascinating, and thank you for all of the work you have put in to this.

How do you decide what it is you wish to measure?

Moreover, I daresay that when measuring "likes" some posts have received several likes.
