Except there's a battery cell production constraint. Talk about me not knowing how to build cars, if you think car companies can just wave their magic wand to get unlimited battery cells for as much as they want, you're way off track.
well, since they're all about to introduce new EV models I guess they managed to solve it somehow, right?
Then why has competition been coming since 2013 (here:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303653004579210053345661982) yet it took about 7 years before the Taycan was finally able to beat a Model S only to get beaten again 1 year later with the refreshed Model S.
Did you even read your own article? Just curious, because you definitely haven't. Most of the models mentioned in the article are plug-in hybrids which still include a gasoline engine. Only exception is the i3 of which they managed to sell a few thousand maybe. None of those cars directly competed with Tesla at the time. The article is just using a grabby headline, that's about it.
Earliest sighting was Ford was "already working on" back in early 2017
https://www.motor1.com/news/146119/ford-all-electric-cuv-2020/ which would suggest a 2016 start date. 4-5 years later, they released it. Tesla incorporated in 2003 and 5 years later released the roadster. Not bad for a 5 year old start up vs 118 year old Ford.
I guess I can give you that one. Of course suggestions mean nothing but you're right, it took them about 4-5 years from start to finish. Tesla released their Roadster after 5 years but it wasn't a clean-sheet design like Ford's. The Roadster is basically a somewhat reworked Lotus Elise converted to an electric drivetrain. The Mach-E is done from scratch. That's the difference.
Biased anecdotes. Pointless. I drive a Model 3 for the past 4 years. Flawless build quality. Now what?
The internet is littered with descriptions of Tesla's lack of quality from awful paint, to horrible door gaps, to bad motors in early cars, etc. Hell, my buddy bought his wife a Model X and at 65K or so it developed an absolutely horrible steering rack squeak, I actually witnessed it myself. Tesla refused to sell him a part due to a car being out of warranty and for whatever other reason. So now he has a $100K car that makes a funny noise. My 50 year old Beetle doesn't. Funny, no?
I can go on and on about how the ergonomics is horrible, how they managed to cost cut a mechanical glove box latch out of a Model 3 which costs $55K+ in some instances and so on. But you get the picture. I'm kidding, being a Musk fanboi of course you don't.
Somehow you missed range and supercharger network. Amazing how you cut out something so critical to owning an electric vehicle.
In what way did I miss that? Is there one right next to my house? Nope. So who cares?
My life is worth more than whatever cost cutting measures you're falsely accusing Tesla of doing. Go ahead and paste your 3 or 4 links of Tesla drivers who abused the autopilot system as your counter argument. Won't even match the amount of lives saved on camera.
Lives saved by what? Modern safety features standard or optional on most modern cars? Tesla's only advantage is the large amount of extra weight batteries provide which make it less prone to flipping over. Of course that wears out the roads faster but nobody cares because the people with ICE cars will pay taxes at the pump to cover that for you anyway.
And because they can't build an EV that competes with Tesla. Porsche tried and they only had their crown for about a year. And in about 2-3 years, other car manufacturers don't have their own plans of how to deal with battery constraints. Good luck figuring that problem out. They're going to be at the mercy of CATL/Panasonic/Samsung while Tesla has a bargaining chip to keep battery costs low by building out their own production lines.
Give it a couple of years. Up until a certain "president" announced a major EV push nobody really cared about EVs all that much so the manufacturers didn't take it seriously. Now the game will change due to all this idiotic arm-twisting by a certain political party and with lots of other EVs available Tesla will fade into oblivion soon hopefully. I sure as hell won't miss them.
All this tells me is that you're hating on Elon because it's Elon and not really sticking to facts. Sorry, but there's no point in continuing this conversation with you. See ya.
I don't like Elon because he's a pompous ass who built his trashmobiles on my (and other taxpayers') dime. He also turned cars (which I love dearly) into disgusting poorly-built gadgets. Tesla is not really a car, it's more of a computer that happens to have 4 wheels on it. And he's totally lying about the green part because he only makes money when you a buy a new car from him which means it's in his best interest to make these things as disposable as an average iPad/iPhone. I'm sorry the truth hurts but it is what it is. But good luck to you too.
