Apple is a tech company. Tim business and manufacturing logistics manager who doesn’t have the insight to lead an innovative tech company long term. Jobs leadership produced disruptive tech innovation that produced the tech momentum that Cook used to succeed. Apple will peak and decline without a leader that understands tech better and hates organizational bureaucracy and terrorizes innovation, especially disruptive innovation. Musk, for all his foibles, is much more capable than Cook in leading a tech company to be disruptively innovative. Musk is a Jobs. Cook’s skills are complimentary to a great tech innovator but, alone, are skills that will eventually kill Apple.
Gotcha. Apple is doomed.

After almost three years with FaceID, I still don’t like it.

It forces eye contact with the phone to unlock it, which is annoying at best, and perverse at worse. You have to do it in such an exactly right way that it feels to me like behavioral conditioning.

There’s no reason to bring it to the Mac. There’s no reason to add it to anything other than the dustbin of Apple follies.
You know you can turn off "Require attention for FaceID? You would not have to look directly at the device.
I mean, sure, it is less secure as anyone could grab your phone aim it toward your head and run, but... It would fix your first world problem.

Musk needs to stick with SpaceX and not even attempt trying to be a Tim Cook nor an Apple.

In 10 years since Jobs died Apple hasn't much innovation or new products or product changes, except for:

1) iPhone went to bigger with 5, 6, 6+, X, & 11 Pro, introduced Siri, the lightning connector, Touch ID, the first security enclave, first motion coprocessors, first 64 bit processors, telephoto lenses, Face ID, Neural Engine, eSIMs, TrueDepth camera system, Dual Camera Systems, Lidar, water resistance, wireless charging, and OLED.

2) iPad added the Mini, Retina screens, Pro versions, Smart Keyboard, Apple Pencil, Lidar, Thunderbolt and an auto-panning video camera.

3) Macs converted to Retina Displays across the lineup before any other computers, switch to USB C, and converted half its lineup to en entirely new fast and power efficient laptop processor, the M1.

3) Launched the Apple Watch, Airpods, and HomePods.

4) It focused on chip design, making the Ax series of processors the worlds fastest and most power efficient phone CPUs and created Apple Silicon which is poised to provide far faster, cheaper and more power efficient processors than Intel for every PC market segment from laptops to high end desktops.

5) MacOS and iOS became the first solely 64 bit operating systems for personal computers and mobile devices, and added Metal, Swift, AR, VR, and Machine Learning among hundreds of new APIs.

6) It massively improved iCloud and launched Apple Pay, Apple Music, Apple News, and Apple TV.

Also since Jobs died Apple has tripled revenues and profits, but you don't care about that. Yup, looks like a pretty stagnant tech company to me!

This week saw an interesting range of Apple news and rumors, including a blockbuster earnings report, rumors about next year's "iPhone 14" and Face ID coming to Macs, and more.

Other popular topics included Apple's crackdown on leaks, changes in the latest round of betas for iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey, and several stories involving Tesla CEO Elon Musk, so check out our video above and read on below for all of the details!

Face ID Expected to Come to Mac Within a 'Couple of Years'

While it has been nearly four years since Face ID debuted on the iPhone X, the facial recognition feature has yet to expand to the Mac. However, that could change in the not too distant future, as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman this week said Face ID is coming to the Mac within a "couple of years."

Gurman believes that Apple's ultimate goal is to shift most of its product lineup to Face ID, including lower-end iPhone models such as the iPhone SE and the iPad Air, both of which currently feature Touch ID.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk Takes Shots at Apple During Earnings Call

In an earnings call this month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk made some pointed comments about Apple's so-called "walled garden" and the company's use of the rare-earth element cobalt, which has been associated with human rights issues like forced child labor and environmental concerns near mining sites.

Later in the week, Musk came out to publicly back Epic Games in its dispute with Apple, calling Apple's App Store "a de facto global tax on the Internet."

In crazier Musk news, a new book about Tesla claims that Musk demanded he be named Apple CEO in a brief phone discussion with Tim Cook about a potential acquisition of Tesla by Apple. Musk has denied the claim, saying that he and Cook have never even spoken or written to each other.

Apple Reports 3Q 2021 Results: $21.7B Profit on $81.4B Revenue, New June Quarter Records

Apple this week announced financial results for the third fiscal quarter of 2021, which roughly covered the months of April through June. For the quarter, Apple posted revenue of $81.4 billion and net quarterly profit of $21.7 billion, or $1.30 per diluted share, shattering June quarter records for the company.

Apple saw strong performance across its product and services segments, but CEO Tim Cook says the company is expecting supply constraints to affect iPhone and iPad shipments during the current quarter.

Apple Demands Leaker Reveals Sources Under Threat of Being Reported to Police

It was recently reported that Apple sent letters to several prominent leakers asking them to immediately stop sharing information about unreleased products, or else face legal action, and further details about the letter have emerged this week.

Apple-Leak-Feature.jpg

First, it was reported that Apple demanded that leakers reveal any sources who provided them with information about Apple products that were not publicly available, and Apple also said that the leaks could mislead third-party case/accessory makers.

iPadOS 15 Gains macOS Monterey's Redesigned Safari Tab Interface

The fourth beta of iPadOS 15 that was released this week introduces tweaks to Safari, with the browser's layout now mirroring the updated design that was introduced in the third beta of macOS Monterey.

Apple also seeded a fourth beta of macOS Monterey to developers this week and this version enables the new Live Text feature on Intel-based Macs, whereas the feature was previously exclusive to Macs with the M1 chip.

iPhone 14 Pro Said to Feature Tougher Titanium Design

Next year's so-called "iPhone 14" lineup is expected to feature high-end models with a new titanium alloy chassis design, according to a recent investor note shared by investment banking firm JPMorgan Chase.

Yeah, Tesla has been such failure, he should just dump that ... oh wait. You might want to check with the rest of the car industry -- every single legacy car company is worth just a tiny fraction of Tesla.

Also I have no idea why people seem to be taking the book more seriously than what either Cook or Musk are saying:
Musk has denied the claim, saying that he and Cook have never even spoken or written to each other.
As far as I know, Cook said the same thing -- that he had not spoken to Musk...

Stock valuation != worth

Disclaimer: I don't know how this will pan out of the next 20 years (and yes it will take that long) but people investing in Tesla stock are doing so for various reason and I doubt many have really looked into it deep enough to make it an educated gamble.

Well they’re saying now that the Delta variant is as contagious as chickenpox. So I haven’t paid attention has anyone going to tell me if Elon has changed his tune about vaccines? He cannot be a brilliant guy in my book if he’s that stupid.

edit. On second thought I guess you can be I mean the late Steve Jobs was undoubtedly quite brilliant but his faith in holistic’s pretty much guaranteed his outcome. So maybe we should be thinking about Elon’s successor at this point?

I guess we have to use the word allegedly but the rumors are saying that dear Elon seems quite bored with running Tesla. That his space projects pretty much consume and dominate his interests. At least for the moment. Allegedly, better make sure I say that twice!

He should be more careful with his statements because I never even bothered to take any more interest in him after that. Wrote him off as nuts or a self promoting a hole.

I’m not even convinced by his statements here because that’s a bit of revisionist history since he gave the state of California such a difficult time when it was trying to take appropriate steps during an emergency pandemic.

I can understand him for not wanting to be remembered as an idiot but that’s not how it went.

I’m the same way with Donald Trump even though he says people should get vaccinated. But he sometimes is less than clear about that like he wants to take both positions.

You are absolutely correct — obviously the same with Apple — other companies do have larger profit, but a lower stock valuation. Clearly Tesla is riskier, but it does have a greater potential upside. (Disclaimer: I do NOT own Tesla stock)
No idea on the thought processor of most Tesla investors, but two most popular proponents Rob Maurer (Tesla Daily) and Steven Mark Ryan are thinking (and arguing) a decade in future.

Monitors with a separate GPU built in.

This just backs up what most are finding out about APPLE silicon CHIPS.

The Internal GPU core in the M ARM chip is not cutting the mustard when a separate high end graphics card is used On A INTEL or AMD based processor Mac or PC.

Yeah, but will a A14 chip in the monitor make the difference? That sounds more like a chip for the smarts in a TV, not for an eGPU.

I'm sure the M2 will have quality graphics, it is clear that Apple is aiming to conquer the PC market again with top silicone, finally. :)

Elon needs different medicine, as its obviously not working.

Elon has no problem apparently, looking out for the biggest grants and subsidies he can get, first in the USA then in China, where no doubt at some stage he will drop the USA forgetting some of the biggest grants and subsidies ever obtained.

Where he apparently doesn't see a problem in Tesla's 'earnings' being inflated by taxes on other companies, real car companies who produce ICE's in volume, then have to pay Tesla for the privilege, and that will end as these companies compete with Tesla, and no doubt it will be on to the next grant/subsidy mission.

Using the same analogy perhaps other computer companies should have to pay Apple if they don't commit to Apple's 2030 zero emission target, or reach Apple's recycling programs?

Tesla might have a problem there too, as EV's contain a lot more plastic than ICE's, a lot more copper, a lot heavier because of the batteries, and where the batteries are not currently recycled and some organisations want to be paid for taking these batteries and where the figures were based on these batteries lasting 10 years, whereas in many situations they are failing before 8 years, which makes them more resource costly than an ICE.

A little comment in the bible about the plank in your own eye Elon...perhaps you should read it.

I think you need to download the latest update on information, you're just spewing the same old fud from 2018 lol. The tax incentives are free to claim for anyone that makes EV's, this is global trend and the reason tesla gets most of it is because they started early and took all the risks not to mention all the above FUD crap thats being spewed out against EV's. Why would an EV need MORE plastic, you literally fill ICE's with oil on a weekly basis, it has been proven countless times that EV's are cleaner after a few years of ownership but for some reason, people like to pick the numbers as if you only own it for a week then throw it away. The batteries are recyclable now and it even makes economical sense to recycle so companies aren't recycling to make you feel warm and fuzzy but for money. The current teslas being pumped out have batteries good for half a million miles so why would they be getting recycled already?

Yeah, it was mentioned earlier in the thread. The problem is, and iOS warns you, that it makes FaceID less secure.

Also where tf do you get off telling me I have a first world problem? You can go intercourse yourself.

I'm crying laughing at reading this... you think having to look at your cell phone is PERVERTED?! Bahahahahahahahaha! 😂
I didn't say it was pornographic, I said it feels like perverse behavioral conditioning. You could try using the Dictionary app that ships with macOS next time.

2. ICE companies has to pay Tesla credits because they didn't want to go the hard way of building EVs for the longest time because ICE is easier for them to make. Now they will soon go through the same EV challenges Tesla did resulting in many, many delays. By the time they figure out how to build a competitive EV, they will realize that they too have to figure out how to alleviate the battery constraint Tesla is currently facing. All the while they need to be price competitive without spending a buttload of dollars in advertising. And if they want some sweet sweet savings, they'll need to build a factory in USA just like Ford and Tesla.
Sounds like you don't know squat about cars. It's a lot easier for regular manufacturers to build electric cars than it was for Elon. Because they know how to properly design cars and have decades of knowledge, all they have to do is design the drivetrain which given modern tech isn't all that hard. This is why the the Mustang Mach-E was designed in a couple of years while it took Elon and his team of idio... excuse me, computer geeks several years. And the result is obvious too, Teslas have absolutely crap quality and had it for a long time. Yes, I've driven them, yes I researched them, yes they're total and utter crap. They're made by computer geeks, not real car people and they suck in just about every single way except acceleration and safety. The latter is there to make sure you don't die when you accelerate yourself into a pole because that would be a major blow to all EVs if you did. All Tesla's good at it putting in more software toys to distract you from the fact that they cost cut your appliance (hard to call it a car really) to death.

That aside, other companies didn't want to go electric because they'd have to throw out decades of ICE development down the drain and design a car that has an extremely limited market (just look at GM EV1 and other electric attempts from the past). Elon got a ton of money from the Big G, who's grown very tired of depending on foreign oil and that's how it got rolling. So it makes sense.

Sounds like you don't know squat about cars. It's a lot easier for regular manufacturers to build electric cars than it was for Elon.

Except there's a battery cell production constraint. Talk about me not knowing how to build cars, if you think car companies can just wave their magic wand to get unlimited battery cells for as much as they want, you're way off track.

Because they know how to properly design cars and have decades of knowledge, all they have to do is design the drivetrain which given modern tech isn't all that hard.

Then why has competition been coming since 2013 (here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303653004579210053345661982) yet it took about 7 years before the Taycan was finally able to beat a Model S only to get beaten again 1 year later with the refreshed Model S.

This is why the the Mustang Mach-E was designed in a couple of years while it took Elon and his team of idio... excuse me, computer geeks several years.

Earliest sighting was Ford was "already working on" back in early 2017 https://www.motor1.com/news/146119/ford-all-electric-cuv-2020/ which would suggest a 2016 start date. 4-5 years later, they released it. Tesla incorporated in 2003 and 5 years later released the roadster. Not bad for a 5 year old start up vs 118 year old Ford.

And the result is obvious too, Teslas have absolutely crap quality and had it for a long time. Yes, I've driven them, yes I researched them, yes they're total and utter crap.

Biased anecdotes. Pointless. I drive a Model 3 for the past 4 years. Flawless build quality. Now what?

They're made by computer geeks, not real car people and they suck in just about every single way except acceleration and safety.

Somehow you missed range and supercharger network. Amazing how you cut out something so critical to owning an electric vehicle.

The latter is there to make sure you don't die when you accelerate yourself into a pole because that would be a major blow to all EVs if you did. All Tesla's good at it putting in more software toys to distract you from the fact that they cost cut your appliance (hard to call it a car really) to death.

Check this out. Idiot drivers mistakenly press the acceleration instead of the brake and Tesla's software prevents the car from falling off the cliff.

Talk about "distractions" and "toys". Plenty more here:

My life is worth more than whatever cost cutting measures you're falsely accusing Tesla of doing. Go ahead and paste your 3 or 4 links of Tesla drivers who abused the autopilot system as your counter argument. Won't even match the amount of lives saved on camera.

That aside, other companies didn't want to go electric because they'd have to throw out decades of ICE development down the drain and design a car that has an extremely limited market (just look at GM EV1 and other electric attempts from the past).

And because they can't build an EV that competes with Tesla. Porsche tried and they only had their crown for about a year. And in about 2-3 years, other car manufacturers don't have their own plans of how to deal with battery constraints. Good luck figuring that problem out. They're going to be at the mercy of CATL/Panasonic/Samsung while Tesla has a bargaining chip to keep battery costs low by building out their own production lines.

Elon got a ton of money from the Big G, who's grown very tired of depending on foreign oil and that's how it got rolling. So it makes sense.

All this tells me is that you're hating on Elon because it's Elon and not really sticking to facts. Sorry, but there's no point in continuing this conversation with you. See ya.

Apple's market cap would be far higher with Elon in charge. At least double since Tesla is at 17x sales while Apple only 7.5x sales. He would have Apple super fans all excited about the new industrial design Mac Pros in dull metal gray slabs with industry leading 1,000 core CPUs coming out *soon* and the full self-phoning iPhone software that reads your mind to do stuff that he announced would ship in 2017 but he's releasing as a beta this summer.

Imagine if he had been the Pets.com CEO? They would still be in the business of selling shares of stock.
Elon has a charm but no one is appointing him as the CEO of Apple, Elon is just scared if Apple designs a car, though i doubt it will ever come to market but if it does Tesla's premium segment is screwed. Elon knows Tesla cant compete with Apples build quality. Apple iCar might iPod or iPad the market and might become the only Premium car manufacturer in the world. Elon doesnt like it but it is true that Apple has serious DNA to do innovation in any space and couple that with the Strenth of iOS and Apple ecosystem , Tesla might well be on its way to be screwed.
