I don’t care if next year’s iPhone come with just FaceID or both TouchID and FaceID, I’m still going to buy it. The only thing stopping me from buying next year’s iPhone if they remove FaceID and use just TouchID. I very much prefer FaceID over TouchID any day, even during the pandemic. I’m outside with the general public and don’t mind putting in my passcode. Having a Apple Watch to unlock my phone helps a lot as well. I’m not complaining though.

Well Apple finally tried it for the very vocal minority who demanded a small phone. However as expected the market has spoken. Most people just don't want small phones anymore. We can put that conversation to rest for good now. On the bright side, the fact that they made that phone in the first place shows that they do indeed listen to the rumblings of their fans and customers online.
It seems to me like it outsold the 12 Pro, so I'm not sure why Apple would discontinue it and not the 12 Pro? Could you explain the difference for me?

I wonder if the rumors about a smaller MacBook Air trackpad are true for the new higher-end model.
I bet price starts at 1199, not sure about 1299 though, not for 8/256 lol.

mini means to add a good little speaker to the iwatch and make it a true stand-alone. the se beats the 12 mini by price, is more or less the same size and actually no one needs that extra spark at the cpu.

I am, I vastly prefer an active needed physical action to a face scan from a device I'm already looking at. It's been a large part of my decision to continue to use my iphone 8, and a more minor reason for why I preferred my iPad Air to the Pro. And that's not even getting into the problem of masks, COV19 isnt gone, we're going to need facemasks at least situationally for a while to come, and really we should be using them for things like the flu too. I also often wear masks for some volunteering I do, a lot of folks in the medical industry, chemical industry, etc etc who have to wear masks even when their hands are clean and not covered in a glove I'm not the only one.

I prefer the finger scan too. I have it and like it on my iPad and MBA(though the Awatch does that heavy lifting sometimes). Finger scan under the screen is a big +1 imho.

Face scan isn’t a deal breaker though. I learned to get used to it w my IP11

It isn't the size that is the issue, it is the price they charged, it should be a little more than the SE. I want the mini but I will not pay full price for it.

Actually, the SE is a different mode in comparison to the 12 mini. The 12 mini was for those small but VERY LOUD folks that were unwilling to let go of their iPhone 5’s . This was for them as they wouldn’t even go to the 6,7 or 8

the new SE is now in the 6,7,8 style and the 12 mini for the 5 but with the guts of the 12.

it just shows that the small phone crew weren’t REALLY about a small phone….they just couldn’t afford a new phone.
The cheapest phone now is the SE ……and it’s selling….go figure 😂🤣
Or both. I wanted a small phone, so I got the SE, which is still a little large for my taste. I'd love to have a mini, and I could have afforded it, but I think it's wasteful and unreasonable to drop €800 on a phone. Even the SE is way too expensive for what it is imho, but I'm locked into the ecosystem, so there's no way around having an iphone.

still hoping that the mini form-factor will be the next SE, but I'm afraid, we'll just get another huge 12 remake. I already have to stretch my thumb pretty wide to reach the top of the SE's screen and it sucks. Also it's a lottle to big in my pockets.

Honestly, if i want a big screen I take the ipad air out of my bag and not a puny phone screen. But I also use a proper camera for proper photos.
"Normal" sized phones are for people who are too cheap to buy multiple devices and can live with the compromise.

I don’t agree with the last comment about “Normal” sized phones are for people who are too cheap to buy multiple devices and can live with the compromise. I have a 12 Pro Max, iPhone SE 2020, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 and an iPhone 7+, iPad Pro 10.5, MacBook Air and a AppleTV 4K, so obviously I’m not cheap and don’t compromise with the devices I use. I can pick any one up and use them for whatever, but the 12 Pro Max is my daily driver and I have 0 issues using it 1 or 2 handed, carrying it in public and work, and this is coming from a 5”4 woman who don’t carry a purse.

The iPhone SE outsold every iPhone 12 model last year, selling over 24.2 million units.

The iPhone SE was the #2 best-selling smartphone of the year - of all brands and makers. Only the iPhone 11 sold more units.

I’m willing to bet that the SE’s price point is more responsible for its sales versus its size. That coupled with the few people who refuse to let go of Touch ID but want a modern phone.

for all of the annoyances removed; the design of Safari’s new UI compounds to bring a huge mess in their place…
I sure hope Apple offers various (toggle off/on) options; rather than all or none for Safari.

I like my iPhone mini. Large phones have just conditioned us to think that bigger is better, which is not always the case. Not only do I enjoy the size of the phone, I like how it fits nicely in my pocket without it looking like a brick is sticking out. I’m thinking the phone may have done better if it was marketed as a standard size iPhone as opposed to “mini”. Mini just seems to denote that the model is less than and inferior to the other models in people’s minds. I wasnt clamoring for a smaller phone, but was happy that apple decided to make a smaller phone. Sad to see it go knowing that in the future id have to upgrade to a “big” phone. Not the end of the world however.

it's a shame will have to wait one more year for Touch ID when we need it now. Not sure if to hold on to my 6s one more year
Exactly the same here. Have been holding on to my 7+ forever now... hoping every year for a new iPhone that convinces me to upgrade. No luck so far but this thing is getting slow :(
