[...] Here is the deal, is the Apple watch sport treated aluminum durable enough as the SS and Gold for everyday use? Absolutely!!! Even with the Ion x glass. At the end of day its all about choices, u get which ever watch that's right for u.

Yes, this is exactly right.

You are looking at the numbers for annealed 316 SS. After it's machined SS is heat treated and it's hardness can be as high as 217. I was a machinist for many years, and I know these materials pretty well.

First of all; annealed = heat treated, you can't make 316L without heat treatment in the first place. Second, we are using numbers from an Aerospace website (ironically) my profession. Finally, I think we are ultimately saying the same thing, just in different ways.

Look at the Tensile Strength figure from ASM (that will be relevant regardless of anneal treatment) and we'll see 572MPa for the Al 7000 and 560MPa for the 316L. They are nearly identical; the areas that the 316L begins to gain advantage are in yields, fractures, and elongations. SS will hold its bonds longer than Al, that's just basic chemistry. The bottomline however, is that unless we are machining these metals the average customer 99% will not notice a "durability" benefit.

SS, plain and simple IS stronger and will hold it's shape better: so here's what will happen: I take a wood rod and smack the SS and Al with equal force, neither will dent. I take a metal rod and smack the SS and Al with equal force, you will get a dent ON BOTH, the dent will be slightly bigger on the Al. Basically, anything that can dent the Al will dent the SS, but the dent in the Al will be bigger (more shapely).

Folks just get whatever you want and don't worry about it.

Haha, I was about to respond with that. I think he got it mixed up and meant to say Apple Sport only works with the sport band. But I don't think that's necessarily true either.

That is what I meant. The apple sport only works with sport bands. There was a post a few days ago about it. It had a picture from the apple training information showing this to be true.

More specifically, "bands work with all collections" with the disclaimer that they may not match aesthetically and/or possibly from a galvanic corrosion standpoint. However, they'll fit.

False. The image showed the recommendations, not incompatibility.

Beat me to it.

All bands work with all models. Apple has confirmed it. You can go ask an online specialist via the Apple Store Website.

I'm getting the Sport edition. Being a first gen device I don't want to spend a ton of money on something I'm not sure how replacements/updates are going to be handled, or if the second gen watch may have some "lessons learned" improvements that we're not foreseeing yet. I liken it to the iPad; the first gen was great but lacking in some key areas that the iPad 2 fixed, and that tablet lasted me three years.

If all goes well I'll just slip the Watch into the bi-annual replacement cycle that most of the rest of my Apple gear falls into.

Agree!

Stainless Steel. Photos appear to indicate the mirror finish reflects arm and clothing, light, blending more and seeming smaller on the wrist, for which mine requires 42mm to get sufficient Milanese band length.

That's an interesting thought. I was thinking the dark watches looked smaller.
