If you already own a laptop then I do not recommend that you need the air. As well, are you willing to pay up to 50% more for the new MacBook Air that comes out? Personally I wold keep the iPad, the usability and portability make up for everything.

Yeah I already have a Sony Vaio that my brother and I share. I guess the main reason I was considering getting an Air was of the form factor. But yeah I think I will keep the iPad. The Macbook Air will probably come to me as a graduation present anyways. Thanks everyone! Now to buy a case and warranty

Now you're thinkin', kid.

Your friend is jealous. If you have an iPad "new" and a computer then you really don't need a macbook air. You can always get a small blutooth keyboard if you really need to enter a lot of text on the go.

For a computer, you can use whatever you want be it a PC or mac. This is the post PC world we are living in now so your computer can be a desktop "truck" that you connect to remotely while working on your tablet screen.

I have no interest in buying another laptop again and I'm happy having an iPad with me when I travel and an iMac at home.

Maybe we won't see the end of the PC but we might see the end of the "laptop" and a return to desktops as your powerhouse in the home and tablets as the UI that you interact with.

Ultimately, you will get the most bang for the buck with a desktop than you could get with a laptop but you might want portability so something like an iPad can give you that while opening up a completely new category of software.

Keep the iPad and get a job to buy your own air (instead of relying on mom to buy you one), I'm sure she would appreciate it.

I just received an iPad 3 as a surprise 17th birthday present from my Mother two days ago. I really like it and enjoyed watching Netflix on it yesterday. However, when I went back to school today one of my friends told me that i should return the iPad and wait a few months and get the new MacBook Air in a few months when it releases. He believes the ipad is pretty useless since I'll probably just end up playing games on it anyways. I can't say that I will only play games on it but spending a little more for a Macbook Air sounds pretty cool. My mom doesn't seem to mind either but I will feel bad returning a birthday present. What do you guys think I should do? Macbook Air or the iPad?

I own both and wouldn't part with either. I use the iPad waaaaaaaaaay more, but the MBA is my productivity machine.

I would keep the IPAD. You will enjoy it. From the perspective of a parent, I gave both of my kids IPOD Touches for Christmas this year, and seeing them use them all the time makes me happy knowing that I gave them a gift that they really enjoy.

Don't let your friend tell you advice, do what you want to do and make sure is the best choice for your needs.

First of all your friend doesn't know what's coming out. Secondly you won't be able to afford the new MBA assuming it comes out in the next three months if you can't afford it now. Just be happy with your free iPad. Buy the MBA on your own.

Your friend was just jealous.

Keep it.

Your friend's jealous and just trying to rain on your parade...just like all those naysayers who used to tell us early adopters of the iPad 1 that it is nothing more than a large iPod Touch.
