Thanks for the heads-up!

I'll just have to wait awhile for the prices to come done just a tad bit lol.

Your welcome. Even though the prices are high this is very good news that two major companies, Toshiba and Super Talent, are pushing 512gb ssd's. This will bring down the prices of 128gb and 256gb capacities.

Don't forget that ssd's really shine in raid 0. So if building a tower, don't forget the option of two 256gb ssd's!

Toshiba indicated last week that sample quantities of its new solid-state will range in price from $220 for the 64GB drive to $1,652 for the 512GB drive.

Well, I guess I won't be able to get this unit until the price comes down.

But hopefully Apple will start using the new Toshiba 256 Gb SSD (240/200) in the Macbook Pros instead of the old/slow ones.

Lemme tell you something:

The Toshiba 256GB SSD I got CTO'd in my MBP 17", is the biggest piece of sh** drive I've used in my entire life. The go*dam thing putters along at the slowest speed possible if you throw a few simultaneous I/O ops at it.

Purchasing it was the biggest mistake of my life, and I'm trying to figure out how the hell to either get a refund for it (heh, fat chance), or at least get it exchanged to see if there's a problem with it.

Operations pause constantly. It's slow as hell. It's a complete piece of garbage. The entire machine is brought to its *knees* because of it.

My former Air had the 64GB SSD. And while it may not have been *actually faster*, it *felt* obscenely faster. No pausing, consistent speeds, throw a handful of operations at it and it handled it without beachballing.

Yeah yeah, someone tell me how I should run some benchmarks or some crap. I don't give a flying f**k - all I care about is, *can I use my machine* while the drive is operating. And know what? I can't.

ARGGGGH. Sorry for the cursing, but no other way to describe the dramatic decrease in productivity and enjoyment because of this crap. =| SO BE WARNED.

#1. You should have done your homework before buying a hdd that cost almost $1k. You would have seen the reports about the stuttering and slow performence.
#2. Apple NEVER claims that their ssd selection is fast. They claim it increases reliability.
#3. The new Toshiba has very fast read/ write times. The one you have doesn't. It also doesn't use the same POS controller.

Lastly. Good luck with trying to get a refund on it. Seriously.
