No. Anything that can be done with the touchbar is much easier to achieve with a touchscreen. Seeing that DJ struggle with those touch targets just proves that this is a gimmick. Not to mention that the buttons always seem to be out of alignment with the keyboard keys.

Lastly I need my function keys for my IDEs.

Undecided as yet. Perhaps predictably for something configurable some of the applications looked interesting, others were "meh", some outright bad: who, on a real keyboard, is going to want to look down at the bar (away from what they are typing) and move their hands from the typing position for QuickType suggestions? Only somebody who can't type in the first place, in which case a bit of practice will be more valuable to them than that gimmick.

The real test will be the configurability. If that allows me to remove stuff that I consider as clutter as well as add my stuff alongside the defaults in any given environment then I'm in. It will take a bit of setting up, but I'm happy customising user interfaces. If not then it depends how obtrusive I find their choices (there are, after all, a few functions keys that I have literally never used) and whether they result in things I do want moving around (very inefficient). I'll need more than a few photos to judge this.

I just hope it's not a horrid, worthless thing. If it is, it will taint the whole Notebook.

Well after watching the Apple event, I feel vindicated getting the 2015 MBP for $300 off retail and a larger SSD size. Touch Bar is nice but $300 more at entry? Really

I admit. The price point is now my only potential deterrent. I think its awesome, and will save time once Im used to it. But that much more? eh...

I think its an interesting idea that might work, but no, its not pulling me in. The price is just too high

Yeah, I was super excited until price point time....And without that feature I would just stick to a lower priced current gen MBP or even MB. Dangit!

The thing is, I use an external monitor and only see the keyboard when I travel. Don't get me wrong, nice feature, but the main event here is the reduction in price of the current models. At least some reduction.

Yes. For those that use their laptop in shell mode most often, completely useless upgrade. I am sure we will see a new external keyboard for macs with this feature. But probably at a $200 price tag or more.

Its a gimmicky toy. I bet it will lag badly after a few OS X updates and will be poorly supported. Buy a mouse instead.

Nope...definitely not worth it. I'm good with a year old macbook. This one needs another year. More apps need to support touchbar. And need to wait and see if it's worthwhile. So far, it doesn't seem to add much.

As far as looks go, the kb looks horrible. So much wasted space. Will have to try it out in store.

I can't handle the standard keyboard. My machine is in clamshell driving 2X 27 monitors. I use a DAS keyboard and can type like a mofo. I wish I could just option it out. The new razorblade pro is looking better and better! About the same price but with an extra 16GB Ram, 1 GTX1080, oh and a 17" screen.

Too bad there's no Overwatch for MacOS so we can use this bar for that. Where is the wireless charging and separate Dedicated Nvidia USB-C companion box?

I think the Touch Bar is very cool, and I can definitely see the long term appeal of integrating touch with the MBP (especially TouchID). I really loved the integration with FCP and PS. However, it is going to be a while before the new technology Apple is introducing, especially USB-C, becomes ubiquitous.

For that reason, I will likely hold onto my maxed out rMBP for as long as possible. I understand the direction they are going, but I think they may have an issue with pushing the envelope too quickly. People are getting tired of needing new dongles with every iteration of the Mac. I'm still using FW800 for a few HDD's.

The only cons that I seriously dislike are the lack of a MagSafe USB-C cord, which would be stupidly simply to implement, especially on laptops that cost $1800+, and the removal of the glowing Mac logo.

To be fair, it looks pretty good for a brand new gimmick :D

But I just want to know HOW MUCH IS IT???

How f**king much!!! About 25% more than I was expecting thanks to brexit and the ****** US-Sterling exchange rate. It's almost 1:1 :-(

Touch Bar pulled me in, and then the pricing shoved me out! Just ordered a MacBook from John Lewis at the old pricing, so content again now :D

yes that would be epic a magic keyboard with thetouchbar i am just worried what will happen when you go intobootcamp for a windows install will it default to the f keys or what .

Going to wait for the next revision of the bar. Just bought the base Macbook Pro won't get it until Monday though

When I was looking at all the mock-ups and people theorizing about Touch Bar, I was very unimpressed. I thought it seemed like an extremely gimmicky thing to be adding to a professional product. I mean, come on, who really needs a little extra screen to stop and start their Spotify?

Nevertheless, watching the event today changed my mind about it. The most impressive thing, to me, was the integration with Photoshop. That looks absolutely gnarly and I hope I get a chance to try it out soon. I was fully expecting to be rather underwhelmed by the event today, but it's very apparent that Apple has still got it when it comes to developing innovations that really do change the way we use computers for the better. Oh! Also glad they threw in the bit that you can simply hit Fn and instantly get the old function keys. I was wondering about how that was going to screw with older software.

Other than that, the larger trackpad looks SO awesome and I'm also glad they decided to beef-up the graphics performance on the standard 15" model. Big step in the right direction there.

All in all, I'm really wishing my MBP wasn't only two years old. :D
